Anyone else really excited about our future?
Long time reader first time poster.
Anyways, is anyone else really excited about the future for BG football? Think about the positives for a second:
-Three straight years with a *** quarterback. Schilz, Hurley, and now Johnson.
-Two straight years of good recruiting. This year's class on paper is our best in a long time, right? Two *** WR's in the same year, with one almost being a ****
-The general attitude the team is giving off. For example, during the recruiting process we heard a lot about the "family" atmosphere we have here. I think this can only be a good thing.
-Its hard to find positives in a losing season, but last year we were young and we were in a lot of close games until injuries took their toll. Jorden looks like a keeper.
Granted, after last year its probably not wrong to question some things on the field (play calling, kicking), but I just like the general direction the football team is headed. I think success on the field will come. Anyone else agree?

Re: Anyone else really excited about our future?
Wed had *** QB's in 2004, 2007 and 2008...(AT, Nate Brown and Andrew Beam according to Scout). None of them wound being as good as the ** guy we got in 2006 (Tyler Sheehan) ...although AT was a pretty good football player as a "slash" his last year or two here.
I'm pretty optimistic...I think next year will be a challenge. We should see some improvement, but I think we're a year away from challenging for a MAC title. It's refreshing to hear a HC stress defense and the importance of stopping the run though. We must establish a running game and we must prove we can stop the running game to really have a chance to contend.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

My son is one of the recruits who signed with BG last Wednesday. Based on what I saw and heard during the recruiting process, you have every reason to be excited about the future of this program. The coaches are an impressive group...intelligent, honest, and incredibly hard working. They have a plan and are well on the way towards executing it. Approximately 30 players have left the program, or have been asked to leave, since the last coaching change for reasons you know better than I. It would take any school in the country time to recover from that amount of turnover.
My son was recruited by schools from coast to coast. I can tell you that no coaches in America work harder or are more trustworthy than the BG coaches. While most schools send form letters, the BG coaches take time to write hand-written notes. There were several weeks when my son received hand-written notes from the entire staff, which made a huge impression on us. I could send an email at 10:30 PM with a question for the coach recruiting my son and he would reply quickly. Nobody outworks these guys. The team might still be a couple of years away from the type of success we would all like to see because of the youth, but I can assure you that this staff will get it done.

I am stoked for the future. 2011 should be another year of growth and by 2012, we should be challenging for the title.

Now don"t start talking like birdman. He has said all alone that this staff does not have it. They took the heart out of the players week after week in interviews and now they are asking them to play hard for the name on the front of the shirt. Won't happen. Hell lets get drunk and go watch a good upcoming team go to another bowl. It's only 23 miles north

I don't think Birdman realizes that Coach Brandon is no longer the coach here or that everyone but me has him on the foe list and doesn't even see his posts...LOL

I thought St. John's and Central Catholic were high schools. I didn't know they went bowling.birdman wrote:Now don"t start talking like birdman. Doc,
First of all, welcome to the board! Glad to see that your son is coming to BG...despite the fact that some of us might get "negative" sounding at times, we're all fans of the Falcons and want them to do well. I've been around BG sports the longest of probably any member of AZZ, have seen good/great coaches and players ...and perhaps some not quite so good... but I love my alma mater and its "FAMILY ATMOSPHERE" which is what I think you've alluded to in your post. I can tell you this...it's not phony...WAAAY back when I was looking for a place to go to college, I, along with 4 of my HS classmates came to visit BG..the FIRST thing we were told? "BG is a friendly campus, so don't be afraid to greet people as we tour"...Sure enough, we were greeted by at least a half dozen student son their way to classes. Not a coincidence that four out of the five wound up at BG. Looking forward to having you meet us at a tailgate this fall, perhaps even at the Spring game if you plan to attend. We love getting to know the players and their families.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Thank you. My family understands and appreciates the passion of BG fans; it's one of the things that makes this an exciting place for my son to play football. Lord willing, we will be at every game over the next four years. My wife and I look forward to joining the BG family and to exhibiting the same type of passion you have for the program.
