BG-1 vs Ball State
BG-1 vs Ball State
A win is needed to keep pace with the dastardly Buffalo Bulls and the Kent State Fightin' Fords. BSU has won 3 MAC road games, but all against bottom-half clubs. The Falcons haven't dropped two in a row since that ghastly run in Nov. and early Dec. Place your bets now.

Re: BG-1 vs Ball State
We nearly let this one get away from us againts Ball State, leading by 8 with about :50 to go before winning by one - but we got the win! We also got off to another very slow start, falling behind 15-6, but we battled back. We have a road game at CMU up next which will wrap up the MAC West games then it's round 2 of the MAC East swing. GO BG!!! BEAT CMU!!!
GO BG!!!

Calhoun demanded the ball with us leading by only 1 and with a little over a minute to go. Big time scores by AC on the block on back to back possessions and then Crawford with the "dagger" 3 pointer. Great to see sophomores leading the charge at the end!!

Re: BG-1 vs Ball State
This was a big, big win tonight. BG needed to bounce back after that craptastic performance against WMU and more importantly, had to show that by beating the West Division leaders that they are indeed in this battle for the conference championship all the way to the end.
Mission Accomplished. Bring on the East Division.

Was just getting ready to point out that Calhoun seems to be developing into the team's go-to guy. I don't know if that's something that develops, or is planned by coaches, or how exactly it occurs. But they played through him to get back in the game against WMU and made the shots Wednesday with the game still to be decided.

I think he has much better intuition on when to shoot now. Early on he just thought I am better then anyone so I better try to take over. He seems to be playing within the system more, and as our most dangerous scoring threat he is being rewarded for it. If we can get a scorer out of the 1 or the 2 this team could be the class of the MAC next year (It might be regardless with the forward duo of Thomas-Calhoun.)

A win is a win. Liked the way multiple players were willing to take big shots including Calhoun and Crawford. I thought our transition D last night was rather poor, and had Ball St converted more easy chances in the 2nd half the result could have been much different. Calhoun is the go to guy on this team. As someone who was very critical of how Orr managed the beginning of this season, the turnaround has been fun to watch. TO's dunk last night was ridiculous. Oh, and please don't ever waste 10 minutes of court time on James Erger ever again. In order to continue to win this season, this team needs both Crawford and Jakubowski involved. Erger gives you absolutely nothing on the court.

Re: BG-1 vs Ball State
Not meant to be an insult. Relax. He is 1-16 on the season. Halftime contest guys can go 1-16. Each time he checks in I'm thinking that this is the game he gets hot and proves me wrong. It's the middle of February and we are tied for first place. I'm hoping we let him find his stroke over the summer.
Re: BG-1 vs Ball State
Actually I didn't think our transition D was a problem at all. We played a LOT of zone trap and even though they beat it a few times they still were getting contested looks, and that pressure caused a lot of those turnovers. And when we didn't get a turnover it was the norm for the shot clock to be down around 20 seconds before BSU could even get their offense set up in the half court. We were playing against a pretty damn good post presence in Jones and I thought it was a great defensive strategy...make them work to even get into their sets.
Globetrotter: I think you are absolutely correct about this team going into next season. The ONLY thing we lose is what has basically become our backup PG over this season. If Black develops with an offseason in the training program and Jehvon Clarke comes in as advertised this team could be VERY good next year. Even without the freshman coming in like gangbusters I fully expect us to be one of the best teams in the conference. The talent level is quite high and they're truly developing into a team. If Calhoun continues to refine his game he's got the talent to be the MAC POY as soon as next season. He's a good rebounder and can score in so many ways. I think he's REALLY benefited from being next to Oglesby as well. Early on Calhoun was timid around the basket, but he's become much more aggressive and looking to dunk more often.
This has been, without a doubt, the most exciting season since 2002 for me.
