BG-1 vs Ball State
Re: BG-1 vs Ball State
I thought the Zone trap is why we won the game. We played it very well. I guess what I was getting at were the multiple times Ball St. got good looks off either turnovers or BG misses. Either way, the defense is the main reason we have played so well of late and credit Orr for going back to it similar to the way he did back in '09. Make teams make shots to beat you. As far as Erger goes, we have 4 guards who are all capable of bringing something different to the game in Brown, Jakubowski, Crawford, and Kraus. What can Erger do that those guys can't do? I like the depth of the team and the various options it brings. I just think sometimes players can get lost on the bench and see no reason other than extreme foul trouble that Erger should play over any of the other 4. At that I'll drop James Erger from my day lol

I am not sure how more insults make it less insulting. It just has no place here. There is no discussion to be had by insulting a 19 year old student athlete.guest44 wrote:Not meant to be an insult. Relax. He is 1-16 on the season. Halftime contest guys can go 1-16. Each time he checks in I'm thinking that this is the game he gets hot and proves me wrong. It's the middle of February and we are tied for first place. I'm hoping we let him find his stroke over the summer.

Calm down. Are you Erger's brother?? The man (or woman???) is just stating his opinion. People state their opinion every day on this board. It's a MESSAGE BOARD. He didnt call for the kids head. He just stated that he thinks there is a lot more better talent on this team and is questioning why this kid even see's the court, which I believe is a valid question. He's 19, yes. But he's also a member of a D1 basketball program and is expected to produce or show promise and he does neither. Let it go. Move on. Talk to him about it at the family reunion this summer.Globetrotter wrote:I am not sure how more insults make it less insulting. It just has no place here. No one saying he can't do it. I am just saying there is no reason to do it.CrazyFan wrote:Calm down. Are you Erger's brother?? The man (or woman???) is just stating his opinion. You need to relax. James Erger is a better player than you think. He may be struggling Offensive but you ever think of the other side of the ball?? He played 10 Mins caused 2 TOs (charge and nice trap that caused a TO) Also pulled down I believe 2 boards. He is very solid defensively, he is a very smart player and a very good passer. Im sure you have heard the old saying defense wins championships. BG is not a team that wants to play tag coach Orr likes to be solid defensive. Erger is not out there to give you 20 point outing he is out there to give Scott Thomas some rest and be a solid role player and that is exactly what he did!guest44 wrote:Not meant to be an insult. I couldn't disagree more. Sorry. This is Division 1 College Basketball. I've seen great defense. BG plays very good team defense. I couldn't go calling Erger a defensive specialist.

Re: BG-1 vs Ball State
Please reread my previous post. At no point in time did I refer to Erger as a defensive specialist. In fact I refered to Erger as a role player. His job is to come into the game to give Scott Thomas a rest. Also when considering his offensive production, you must consider the minutes he is getting. In his lack of minutes it is difficult for a player to get into the groove for his shooting. Also when looking at the 3 spot, who else do we have to fill that role? Both Kraus and Dee are too undersized for the 3 spot, A'uston is not mobile enough to fill the 3 spot. Currently the only role player we have to fill the 3 spot is Erger. Give the kid a break, he is doing his job. If his shots fall then thats great but he is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing.guest44 wrote:I couldn't disagree more. Sorry.
