BG-EMU in game updates

Post by newsguy »

I understand a large number of Falcon fans have made the trip to Ypsilanti, however if you aren't in that group and want your Falcon fix keep up with the game at http://bgnewssports.com/2011/02/womens- ... and-notes/ or at twitter.com/bgnewssports

Think this is Jen Uhl's last game against her HS teammate, Cassie Schrock, the leading scorer for EMU...assuming of course, that the teams don't meet again in the tournament. Hope Jen can keep her latest performances going today! :goodman:

BG trailing at the half. Uhl, Pontius are MIA. Both are scoreless. Luckily LP brought her game today. I believe LP has a double double already 17 pts, 10 rebounds. Other than LP this team is flat!!!! Time to regroup for the second half.

31-24 EMU

Very small crowd. Was expecting more in the stands

BG shot 25% for the 1st half! LP has 17 of their 24 pts.! What a terrible outing so far for the other starters..maybe we shouldn't have had a "bye" week as the team seems out of sync...most disappointing? lack of the tough D that we've played in most games... two of EMU's women are taking it to us, beating us down the floor etc.
My mention of Jen Uhl in another earlier post may have been a jinx...she's got 0 Pts. and had to sit out quite a bit of time with 2 fouls... OTOH, Cassie Schrock, her former HS teammate, has only 2 pts., but sounds as if she's been a bear on the boards from what little I've been able to listen thus far.

C'mon ladies!!!! We need this one BIG time!!!!!

I just saw where NIU beat Buffalo today. UB fouled NIU with 5 seconds left on a 3 pt shot and NIU made all 3 FTS to send game into overtime and NIU won in the extra period. The way we are playing now we needed that upset.

A couple of huge 3's by Prochaska late in the game, BG leads 55-52 with under 2 mins remaining. Cmon Falcons!!

EDIT: 43 ticks left, BG up 56-52

Gotta say, the one thing we haven't been able to do for the most part this year is win close games. This game was a knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish, on the road, against a team tied with us in conference play. Rarely can the stakes be higher than that, and the Falcons got the job done thanks to LP's sensational play and some clutch free throw shooting.

Big, B!G win. 8-3 now, and done with the treacherous West Division. Now for the finish against the East. Gotta keep going as hard as we can despite the injury troubles. Go BG!

Lauren was amazing today...37 points and 12 rebounds. Basically put the team on her back and carrried them home. Will probably need to do this most nights from here on in as Tracy looks hurt.

Mac POY again for LP anyone? 37 and 12 and she's got a hurting foot to boot. If LP doesn't go off we don't win. Pontius has been hurt too and lacking quickness defensively so we need better performance from rest of team. Hope we can get some people healthy. I hope Miller plays Halfhill more to spell TP. She's got the quickness and speed to run the offense and it'd be good for her to get some mins before she' takes over next year.

Freshman Step UP!!!

Post by Class of 61 »

So our senior starters are stuggling with shooting, foul trouble etc. What to do? Put in THREE FRESHMAN and they hustle and pull us back into the game. To be honest, I've thought a little bit about next year, with the way the rest of the MAC seems to be catching up with BG, and wondering how the "kids" will do. Nice to see that they stepped up BIG TIME today and were able to make this a team win... But LP is simpley "the BEST"... interesting article in the PD today talked about Lavendar at OSU due to break Katie Smith's scoring career record.. Her comments were, "I want to set the bar really high" or something similar to that... Can you imagine Lauren making those kind of statements, especially PRIOR to last Sat.'s game?

Fantastic come from behind win today for the ladies. Loved the move to put the three freshmen in with Lo and Jen and it worked out great.

Being there today, if I was EMU's coach I probably wouldn't be too happy that my marketing and/or ticket department allowed a school just an hour south that already travels well to get $3 tickets for their fans, but hey thats just me. My guess is EMU just wanted some people in the stands, didn't care if the away fans outnumbered the home fans

'Cuz it's 3 dollars more than if they just threw a red sweatshirt on to walk in the door for free.
Personally, I think that EMU has the right idea for their promotions and games. I've been able to take my kids to a couple of games there now, all for free because of the promotions they do (and that it takes me only about 5min to get there, a "perk" of living in Ypsi I guess  ). Trying to get by on 1 salary is making things difficult, and unfortunately, even being close to BG its not in my budget for game tickets. Took my 3 youngest to the game and they all had fun.

We try to go to EMU every chance we get and the 2PM start was just perfect! BG only had 100 tickets and sold those out. I saw some BG fans in red :-) and I concur with the 500/200 mix We sat next to Lo's mom and some idiot behind us chose to yell at the players, the refs, the coaches, and the opponents. Wow, what a loser. I'll yell at the refs, but the players on both teams are better athletes than I, so I just cheer for the Falcons.

Tracy's injury must prevent her from squaring up and taking the 3. She keeps passing up the shot she would normally take from the top of the arc. It's sad to watch. I wish the staff would just put her in street clothes until tournament time.

I haven't seen Lexi in practice, but it's nice to hear Logan Pastor's press and see the freshmen play. I hope the exit of all our seniors won't leave the cupboard bare and I don't expect it to. Our Carmel connection should bring some exciting times next year as they have this. Now we just need to find someone to replace Lo's explosiveness.

Let's go win the MAC this year and next!

I though we had a great crowd there, created an awesome atmosphere for us on our opponent's home floor. I think if we had kept our momentum from the non-conf, maybe ranked in the top 25, we would have had a much better crowd. But with how we have been struggling, I can see why some chose not to make the trip. But how can we complain about out outnumbering the home team almost 3-1??
