Toledo Six Players in PA Big 33 game

Post by birdman »

The Big 33 all star game in Pa has six signed Toledo players in the game. What does a school only 23 miles away from Bowling Green get six top players and we would not even give their coach an interview when GB left. Maybe they know a winner when they see one. :rolleyes I heard we had one of the top classes in the MAC according to someone at BG

We only had a total of a half dozen recruits from Ohio and PA combined.

Scout ranked us #3 recruiting class [behind Ohio and Toledo.]
Rivals ranked us #4 behind Ohio, Toledo, and No Ill
Vandelay ranked us #3 behind Ohio and Toledo
If you look at number of ***, ESPN would rank BG #1

So, yeah, we got one of the top ranked recruiting classes in the MAC. What you DO with those recruits is a completely different and more important story as we will see. I have more faith in BG's ability to develop players than most other coaches in the MAC [including UT.]

History lesson:

UT canned Amstutz in October. By canned, I mean happily accepted his resignation under a lot of pressure.

BG released Gregg Brandon in late November. That's over a month's difference that UT had to interview candidates.

Also, Gregg Christopher explicitly stated that a qualification for the job here was previous head coaching experience. For every new head coach without previous head coaching experience like Urban Meyer, there's several Tim Brewsters.

I've posted this all before, Birdman.

Congratulations to them for landing a head coach who can recruit well. We landed a head coach who has twice been called head coach of the year. Give Clawson time. He's a proven winner.

Toledo is well on their way to being a chamionship contending team the next 5 years. Beckman knows what he is doing.

How long is Timmah gonna stay in the fair Glass City? IF he wins again this year, does he bolt? Just wondering...I would think he's get an offer or two to move on. Just the way it works for most coaches these days. Most...

I have full faith in Coach Clawson. His track record is there for all to see. Should be fun the next few years...

GO FALCONS!!! Spring game only 2 months away.

I don't think anyone is saying that Beckman isn't doing a good job at Toledo. I think it's moronic to bag on Clawson for one bad season when he took over a program with a substantial amount of issues....(I read somewhere that 31 scholarship recruits fromthe 2006-2008 classes had washed out while three had washed out from 2009 and 2010 combined). There isn't a prgram in the conference that hasn't had a season as bad or worse than we did last year and they weren't saddled with the APR restrictions, off field arrests and attrition we did.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

If he's smart, T.Beckman won't jump at the first bc$ offer that comes along... Hopefuly he'll stick with the program long enough until that (too good to pass up) situation is offered... It seemed to work out fairly well for Gary Pinkel about 10 years ago... =D>

I'm not certain, but I think BG has a highly regarded QB out of Pennsylvania playing in that game... =D>

Toledo also recruits more than they are able to extend. They know some of these players will never play there, but it sure looks good on ratings.

gmartan; The PA Big 33 game is where players pitch horse shoe and drink beer. The top 10 out of 33 gets to pick any college they want to attend, don't have to attend class, drink beer all day and play football. Since Toledo drinks more beer than BG most players would rather attend Toledo. WE Falcons need to drink more beer or get better pitching horse shoes. A side note the shoes have to be on the horse so the coach's know how strong a player really is.

BIG33, Just to let everyone know, there is alot of politics involved in the picking of players for this game. It is very tough for a great player at a small school to get nominated, by being outvoted by bigger schools with more votes. Or you can be picked by a coach as players back out, no nomination, no voting, just being picked. So, by no means should this game, and the number of players a college has in it, be used to pass any sort of judgment.
