To be honest, I was rather unimpressed by his highlight reel. He does not look all that explosive/athletic and his shot seems to take a long time to get off. That move was nice but it looks like it was against a guy who had no business guarding him. This is a brief snapshot of his JR year so clearly it might not be where he is today. Shows a couple of assists to Rorie too. It appears they wore different #s last year as Clarke is #3 and I believe Rorie is #32

He looks like EXACTLY the type of guard this program has been dying for since Lewis transferred.

I think he looks much better in this video (which is good considering the competition)

Thats against Northland who had both Sullinger and Weatherspoon (OSU) and Now have Trey Burke who I assume is the Pg and is going to Michigan.
Not sure which one Rorie is and thats disconcerning. I would think he would atleast be noticeable though not in the same class.

For comparison, OU recruit Stevie Taylor. He is smaller but was rated higher.

I don't know...I don't watch a lot of HS basketball (read: NONE), but I was impressed. I saw a guy who was willing to drive and had some creative finishes around the rim. Of course in most of that first video he was far more talented than the guys guarding him, but that's the nature of trying to project HS athletes. Overall I think he looks like he will come in and provide a very good backup to Crawford, who I expect will start and play 25-30 minutes per game next year.
In the video you posted the most impressive thing to me was obviously the two OSU guys. Looked like they combined for about 20 dunks in that game!?!? Clarke made some nice plays in that game, but saw a few turnovers from him as well. Obviously the level of competition in that game was off the charts though.

I thought he looked good, but like he did not have a ton of explosion/athleticism. I wonder if thats the case with Hendo too.hammb wrote:I don't know...I don't watch a lot of HS basketball (read: NONE), but I was impressed. Clarke and Canton Timken defeated Manchester last night to win another conf title. Clarke had 12 points.

Timken is Div 1, however they play in a conference with Div 3 teams [maybe lower]. Akron Manchester has been ranked in the top 5 in Ohio this year in D3 and I believe has a very good program from year to year, BUT the league is a bit "easy" for Timken. They've won something like 55+ league games in a row. We will find out about them in the tourney.
I think Jehvon Clark's skills will transfer to college and he will be a good player. I have not seen him in person, but there is a lot of press on him both as a HS player and AAU player [where he is playing against like talent], so I think this is a solid recruit for Orr.
On the other hand, I am concerned about 6' 9" Desmond Rorie. Based on box scores, I think he is averaging roughly 1 or 2 FGs per game and roughly 6 boards. For the level of competition, this is concerning to me. He appears to be the 4th or 5th scoring option when he is on the floor. Time will tell on this recruit, but I am very skeptical. Was this a desperation move? If you look at some of the info on-line, it appears before Rorie signed we lost two big men we offered during the early signing period push [one to Vanderbilt, one to Toledo].

Just remember, Nate Thurmond came here under similar circumstance. We really wanted Elijah Chatman but he would only come if some 6'6'' kid named Thurmond could come along!

Re: Canton Timken Falcons
Rorie seems very raw but very big and athletic. My 2 thoughts are 1) you can't teach size or athleticism so getting him in our system is not a negative in anyway. 2) if we really offered him just to get Clarke then I expected Clarke to be much better then his video shows.
Re: Canton Timken Falcons
I'm pretty sure Rorie is #32. He blocks Trey Burke's shot out of bounds at the :56 second mark of the video. Also, keep in mind this is from last year, their Junior season.Globetrotter wrote:I think he looks much better in this video (which is good considering the competition)
