L.P. Foot has to be bothering her at least on her shots. She still plays great D and her foul shooting is fine, but as I already mentioned, she is over compensating on her shot and trying to put extra height on the shot from her release as she is barely jumping off the ground on her jump shots. Even when she drives to the lane she doesn't have that first quick step.
In the last two games she is just 1 for 16 for the field. That's right, 1 for 16. But she is 12 for 14 from the charity stripe.

Re: BG-MU
Is it my imagination or does this team tend to go into somewhat lengthy "lulls" on the offensive end? I realize that runs happen for/against teams...but the disturbing part is that a 15 pt. lead nearly evaporated early in the 3rd before we got back on track again...And Jen Uhl popped up after a pretty quiet 1st half with 12pts in the 2nd half.
I know Lauren has spoiled all of us with her performances over the past 4yrs., but 1-16 is so "un-Lauren" like that it's disturbing to see...
Also, NO points off the bench today... not sure if this is the 1st time, but we NEED some bench help if we're to continue this level of success.
Please don't take this as criticism as I love to watch the ladies play...and Joyce and I will be in Akron on Tues. to help root them on.

Re: BG-MU
I'm thinking that maybe we should sit Lauren out the games against Akron and Buffalo, to give her foot the time to heal before the MAC tournament begins. Of course she probably won't want to sit out on Senior Night, so maybe that won't work, but if she's hurting to the point that it's hurting her offensive game, you have to wonder if its worth having her risk re-aggravating it further.
Of course, there's a week between the end of the regular season and the MAC tournament, so maybe she'll be able to heal a bit then too. With any luck maybe she won't have to play a lot of minutes in the quarterfinal round game and will really be able to go full blast in the semifinals and the finals.

Class??? You do realize LP has a stress fracture in her foot and has been in a protective boot for 3 weeks and has only practiced 3x in the past 3 weeks. She played well at EMU but that was after a 7 day rest when we had a bye week. LP will continue to play great D and shoot well from the line but until her foot is better Lauren will continue to struggle on the jump shot and getting to the rim.
The question is do you sit her and lose her 8 FT attempts per game and her amazing D?? If she can tolerate the pain she will continue to play through it. It will not get any worse. If BG wraps up the division next Saturday against Kent, as hard as this may be to say, I think Coach Miller will rest her on Senior night! With us having a first round bye I think a 10 day rest would be more beneficial. Curious to what others think. If the Buffalo game is meaningless would you rest Lauren. And by rest I mean rest. Street clothes, no warm ups, no practice for 8 or 9 days!! Get ready for post season.

Re: BG-MU
F24 we had the same thought. If we clinched the #2 after the Kent game we have to rest her. Senior night or not we need her to heal. The fans will understand. She will still get the recognition she deserves but 4 extra days after the Kent game and then a week after the UB game will give her 10 days to rest before MAC Quarterfinals. She can play on her sore foot and she never complains however watching her shoot against OU and today against MU was totally different from her game at EMU. Her shot isn't flat, she is shooting it too high to compensate for night jumping and therefore leaving it short or too long. Very tough decision to make and I am sure LP will do whatever is right for the team.

I'm totally aware that she's been dealing with a foot injury, though they've never officially said it was a stress fracture as far as I've heard..... And I'm NOT criticizing her in any way... she's a great kid and a terrific representative for BG, no matter how many/or few points she scores in a game.gmartin wrote:Class??? I AM a bit concerned when our bench comes in and scores NO points in their time on the floor... we'll need them to come up big time in the next few games as well as the tournament, especially if any of the starters are struggling.

Re: BG-MU
Curt Miller stated last week before the EMU game that Lauren has a foot injury. He said its 'like' a stress fracture. Not sure of his exact wording but he mentioned it twice in interviews and in the Sentinel Tribune. Lauren has been in and out of the boot now for two weeks. Seeing her play nearly every game for 4 years and playing ball myself I can tell when she is struggling as she adjusts her shot. The only thing that will help her is rest and I think if we have the division wrapped up after the Kent game we should think about resting her for 10 days. Even walking on it in warm ups will prevent it from getting better. Her playing will not make it worse. The question now is, if her foot is affecting her shot and going 1 for 16 the past two games and then another stretch of 1 for 9 prior to the EMU game I think we know the answer, do we want her to play defense and try and get her to the line and not let the foot heal??? Or have her sit out her Senior night game and rest for the MAC tournament and post season play????
I agree the benck was MIA today but overall they been solid. Havel is good on D, Slagle brings instant intensity and two weeks ago scored 13 pts, Paps battles hard. Overall I am happy with our bench play. Its nice to see Tracy fighting back from her injury and having 3 straight solid games.
