Re: BG v UA
What a game...sloppy, poor shooting, tons of turnovers and yet we found a way to win. I've never seen so many traveling calls in one game.
Hung with Class of 61 and his wife Joyce in the 2nd half. Marc Stevens was there as well! Very cool to see him again. Logan Pastor was there, too.
It was about as ugly a win as you can get...but better than losing. LP hits that huge 3...nothing but net and shuts up the obnoxious AK Rowdies. LOL!
BEAT KSU!!!!

As for the game itself, terrible officiating from a crew we've grown tired of seeing. They blew big calls both ways, and did a poor job of protecting the players from dangerous situations. They were inconsistent on both ends, and both coaches Kest and Miller have valid reasons to be upset about the officiating.
Otherwise, a tough game on the nerves, but thank goodness for Lo's absolutely cold-blooded clutch shooting. Not to mention Hennegan and Slagle, who seemed to carry us for the last few minutes. Solid bench play was the key to tonight's win, and we played some really nice defense and owned the boards for most of the night.
Akron once again had a disappointingly small crowd for the size of the school and city. A few Ak-rowdies were present, but seemed more tame than years past. The band sounded great, especially considering their small size. Still a fun, not too far road trip, and a win makes it all the better!

LOVE the Rowdies. By far the best MAC student cheering group I've come across-my daughter had a game long running battle with them a few years back and it was great fun! Wish we had that kind of support.

Buffalo students get into the game but they are just plain rude and annoying!! I remember some years ago I was visiting a friend who had a younger brother go to Kent. We went to the Kent Akron game and the Kent students were constantly harassing an Akron player for being convicted of breaking into or stealing a car. Can't remember which anymore but that was the last time I remember Kent students getting into a game. As far as the Akron rowdies you could hear from on the radio feed. Could also hear the band. Ironically It sounded like the band was playing a shortened version of 'Don't stop Believing' right before LP made the winning shot.

If you play Journey songs you deserve to lose on a last second prayer.

Maybe this last shot will get Lauren on a roll. As a mentioned before she has changed her shot a little because of her foot injury. She elevates her shot more to compensate for her lack of jumping. Now I missed last nights game but her shots were still off but maybe this will get her rolling as in her last three ganes Lauren is only 4 for 30 shooting, a frigid 13.5%.
Even with her shooting troubles I still want her taking the last shot for a win!!

Re: Buffalo students..... more than a few of them were arrested at the Q a couple of years ago during the MAC tournament....men's team was playing that nite...and UB had a huge turnout of fans in upper decks of the Q... but some of them went a "bit over the top" shall we say, and we saw them being escorted and cuffed after the game.gmartin wrote:Buffalo students get into the game but they are just plain rude and annoying!! Re: BG v UA
Sat right behind BG bench last night in Akron. Curt is really frustrated with this team. Not what he expected to get from a heavily senior ladden team that has been through the MAC wars.
We are not a great team right now. Should have gotten beat last night. We go long stretches of the game without scoring. Slow starts are going to get us beat come tournament time. Teams seemed to have figured out our high screen offense that we use to attack a man-to-man defense. We are not overly athletic and certainly not big inside. If we aren't hitting the three ball, we can be beat on most nights.
We are finding ways to win but something needs to change before March 9 gets here.

That thief would be Jamie Bosley. And he got the same greeting at BG, then went on to hit a game winning half court shot and tore off the top of his uniform while running around the court like the cops were after him!gmartin wrote:Buffalo students get into the game but they are just plain rude and annoying!! That guy was built like a power forward, too. His muscles had muscles. He was a tough player who started his career at ohio State I think.
