RE: Attendance Viewpoint
"Agreed. And it's also why the President of BGSU stated publicly last year that they were strongly considering dropping football. They couldn't afford to keep it."
I couldn't believe that and wanted to know where it came from. Did the President of BGSU actually say that? Was the statement taken out of context?

Was the poster using the screen name "birdman"?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Dropping football
Could this be traced back to the discussion that GC mentioned last year that did come up at one point with football, with the whole D-2 and Ashland thing that nearly caused me to black out? I remember my stomach dropping just hearing it was even discussed at one point. But I did come away with the impression that the idea was quickly dropped.

Ahhhh yessss...the old fox news tactic of making up a story (birdman) and then having a co-"worker" (midlandchip) referring to the made up story as if it were real...and voila...a meme begins.

But midlandchip refers to a post that uses punctuation, capitalization and appropriate polysyllabic words-- doesn't feel like birdman.Redwingtom wrote:Ahhhh yessss...the old fox news tactic of making up a story (birdman) and then having a co-"worker" (midlandchip) referring to the made up story as if it were real...and voila...a meme begins.

FLIPPER: BE NICE, Birdman would never post such a thing; I just want to give the players a chance to field a team to play at the level they are capable of playing. The coaching doesn't do that. Replacing players who have been with the program with a bunch of stiffs because of a youth movement. Were are the leaders, week after week the same mistakes were made and no changes were made and zero improvement over a 12 game season. Moving a d lineman to the o line who never played there while a junior or senior never got a chance. who is being held accountable? We have heard all the reasons. How many times have a player played threw the whistle, got beat deep, and gave up sacks? Next week same players same outcome. If the president did say that, these are different times and money is tight putting out hundreds of thousands to field teams for what reason? Higher education solves problems, world hunger, war, energy. This is just a game of football and not very good at that. If we lose 8 or more games this year the budget for 2012 will be cut for lack of state funding. We don't travel well so teams would rather have money instead of wins. We have neither.

I think birdman is an interesting bunch of guys. Midlandchip could be the "smart" personality. Actually, I think he posts on the MAC boards but I cna't be sure.

Re: Dropping football
I think midlandchip is on the MACBBS and that moron KitKat or Ohio BobKitty or whoever the expansion/realignment nut is kept mentioning BG was going to drop football or go down to D-II (because Christoper mentioned that they looked at ALL options - even the ones they do not want to consider). Those guys jumped on that as meaning that we were going to do it regardless of the truth.Redwingtom wrote:Ahhhh yessss...the old fox news tactic of making up a story (birdman) and then having a co-"worker" (midlandchip) referring to the made up story as if it were real...and voila...a meme begins.

Re: Dropping football
Apologies to Midlandchip then. I see now that he says OUR board referring to CMU. But it's all really the same thing though...someone makes something up and then other treat it as gospel.
The notion of BG just simply dropping football without any warning is really pretty silly.

Might re-read his post. He states he didn't believe it, hence not treating it as "gospel". He is curious where the statement came from, whether the President actually MADE the comments and if so were the comments taken out of context.Redwingtom wrote:Apologies to Midlandchip then. Re: Dropping football
Sorry guys, I didn't mean for this to be so complicated.
I'm not trying to pull something here. I really read the comment about BG dropping football on our CMU basketball board and wondered where the guy who made the comment was getting his information.
Here is a link to the thread on our board that contains the statement about BG dropping football. It's actually about 15 posts down in the thread.

I never believed you were considering dropping football, but I thought there might be some crazy possibility your President said something like that at some point in the past and I was wondering where/when/why he/she might have said it.
I'll have to go back to my board now and tell A10 he doesn't know what he is talking about.
And by the way, I almost never post on the MAC conference message board. I have come to think of it as the MAC Ohio message board and have pretty much lost interest in it. I also had a run-in with one of the regulars over there some time ago that turned me off.
And by the way I'm waiting for you to complete your new basketball facility. I plan to make the trip down for the next CMU - BG game in Bowling Green to see it.

Re: Dropping football
That is what I thought you were referring to. As I mentioned above, my stomach dropped when I heard it was even looked at or thought about. Being the kind of fan I am, I can't even comprehend what it would mean to even put any kind of thought together on that topic whatsoever. That said, I hope now that it’s has been examined and hopefully put to rest that it stays that way. Because if it ever happen, I would be finished with the very school I earned my degree from - I can tell you that much.midlandchip wrote:Sorry guys, I didn't mean for this to be so complicated.
