Coming into this season, we had ZERO senior starters and ZERO previous D-1 minutes out of the key post players coming into this season (McElroy got minimal run last year, but was not really a factor in any games). If we win Saturday vs. Buffalo, we will have finished .500 in the MAC and potentially hosting a 1st round game. With the 2 factors I listed above, I'd say that's cause for optimism.
I understand some of the frustration that comes with a losing streak, especially after seeing what this group is truly capable of doing. However, at a point in the season this squad had us ALL excited about BGSU basketball, and THAT'S something we can carry into next season.
But that's next season... let's win 2 in a row at home and then make some noise in Cleveland. If we can somehow get to Friday, our 11-man rotation might actually become a HUGE asset. These MAC teams are all so up-and-down that who knows what could happen once the zebra tosses the ball in the air.

Agreed. As disheartened as I've been at times this year (early, and now recently) this is still the most exciting BG team in quite some time. There is talent on this group, and I don't care what anyone says we ARE still a young team. We are very reliant on a couple of players who have never had meaningful minutes prior to this season. Yeah, I would have liked them to build on what they did during their good stretch earlier, but still, this year has been better than most of us expected.Matty B wrote:Coming into this season, we had ZERO senior starters and ZERO previous D-1 minutes out of the key post players coming into this season (McElroy got minimal run last year, but was not really a factor in any games). This team has talent...anything is possible in a small tournament situation.

+1...seeing Calhoun and Oglesby throwing down dunks, Crawford's PG play and the fact that just about everyone will be back next year, it's still a fun team to watch. Frustrating? Hell yeah...but still fun.
After Saturday, everyone is back to square one on the season.
GO FALCONS!!

Re: To put a positive spin on things...
Well, fine. Orr has been here how long and where are we now?
We're young on paper, but it's the end of the season so we should be a effectively a year older than we were in November. However, we aren't playing like it at all.
I agree that this group has talent. With the addition of quickness at the guards (Clarke, Henderson), our half-court offense will be better.
For me, next year is the litmus test. If this group doesn't develop into a contender next year, we must seriously and critically question the viability of the program under Orr.

I just can't for the life of me see how Erger is playing in front of Sealy. It's a joke, really. Not red-shirting him or not playing him quality minutes this year has really hurt this team both now and in the future.
Re: To put a positive spin on things...
Agreed. I'm not ready to call for Orr's head, but next year is it for me. His first few recruiting years were pretty poor, but we've brought some better players in more recently. Next year Calhoun & Crawford will be Juniors with a full season of playing fulltime under their belts, Thomas & Brown should be the senior leadership, and some other guys (Black, Sealey, McElroy) have all played enough to be able to contribute.BleedOrange wrote:

If this team doesn't compete next year with this talent, I'll be quite ready to go in a new direction.
Re: To put a positive spin on things...
I like the feel of this topic, because next year we will only be better. We will be loaded with talent and will have more guard play talent coming in with clarke and henderson. We just gotta hope the post play develops because our rebounding needs work, but the future looks bright for the falcons!
Go Falcons
Re: To put a positive spin on things...
I agree. Next year is it. Period. No more excuses at that point. We will have a veteran team, will have lost only two bench players, we'll be fielding a guy who red-shirted and adding two more recruits, we'll be playing in a new arena. What more can you ask for? Next year is a make-or-break year for BG and Orr, no question.hammb wrote:Agreed. I'm not ready to call for Orr's head, but next year is it for me.
