They could easily make an example out of him with all the lying. Their best hope is the NCAA goes light on them because the NCAA doesn't want to bite a hand that feeds too hard because OSU is a major cash cow for them.

Loving it :finga:
Agreed. To all the osu fans out there who spew their sanctimonius bs, deal with it. You loved it when Rich Rod and UM got into trouble. You love pointing fingers at USC and the SEC schools...guess what? osu is no better.

The only ones defending Tressel and osu are osu fans. Take the scarlet and gray glasses off for once.

Just got done watching Jay Crawford try and spin all this on ESPN's 1st and 10....talking about him being such a fan of the osu program and why the NCAA should NOT add more penalties. Jay, please don't tell anyone you graduated from BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY...you're a disgrace.

I hope Jason Lloyd enjoys his new life as a grocery store manager in New Mexico. Solid, ballsy write-up. Good for him!

Awesome write-up for a guy employed by an Ohio newspaper. He'll get more hate mail than you can imagine, and all he did was finally speak the truth about that dirty crook of a coach that runs the OSU program.

Tressel has been a shady, dirty coach since before he got hired at OSU. Ever since he's been there they've been dodging NCAA allegations left and right...odd, I don't remember Cooper dealing with the same issues.

I've thought for a long time that the dude was a cheating slimeball, but I figure that most coaches at the big perennial powerhouses are just as shady. My issue has always been the OSU fans that continue to act like Tressel is different than all the rest, that because he wears a sweatervest he's just a good citizen that has never done anything wrong. That OSU program is 10x dirtier under his watch than it ever was under Cooper, and it's about damn time that he finally gets called out for his many lies to the university, the NCAA, and the fans.

Dude's a cheat, has always been a cheat, and will always be a cheat. There is no excuse for him to continue to be employed at the university except that they don't want to willingly fire the hand that feeds them. I am hopeful the NCAA comes down hard on him, as they should. It's about time that he pays the price for decades of cheating at the college level.

The doofus in that bow-tie down there is a joke:

"Asked whether he'd considered dismissing Tressel, Gee, OSU's notorious bowtie-clad cheerleader, offered this sarcastic gem: "No. Are you kidding me? I just hope the coach doesn't dismiss me."

This is a serious matter and he wants people to believe that THE Ohio State University is some kind of superior academic institution, yet he jokes like this about the football coach lying so that cheating football players could continue to play. Pathetic.

And jokes about the [all too true] fact that the football coach is held in higher esteem than the university president.

It's deeper than that. It's the deep rooted tOSU arrogance coming out. The same thing that would cause him to give the "little sisters of the poor" quote.

He's clearly saying that this is just some trivial matter that the unwashed masses at other universities have to deal with. People should feel in awe that 'the vest' and 'the bow' decided to even speak to the public about it.

If the vest was such a stand-up guy, why is he OK with taking less of a hit than the players involved? He should have volunteered for a 5-game suspension himself.

Just walked by an osu fan in Giant Falcon. Of course, I had my BG jacket on. Told the dude "Your coach is a cheater and Liar". His response? "He's a winner, though. When is the last time Bowling Green won something?" There you have it. For most of the fan base, it's ok that the Vest lies and cheats as long as he wins. I asked this guy "So that makes it right? The guy lies and cheats but as long as he wins, you're ok with that?" All he said? "He's a winner". I told him "BGSU doesn't get the prestige, coverage or huge fan base osu has...but we certainly don't have the stains and scandals ya'll do. And, there's more coming"...laughed it off and walked away.

They are so blind and arrogant...don't get me started on Gee. That dude is a complete joke.

Typical response from a Buck fan Freak.

In all serious because I don't know the answer to this question, who does fire a University president? This is 2 times in about three months Gee has put a huge foot in his mouth. This time any OSU alumnus should be truly embarrassed. I know their fans who couldn't tell you what river runs through campus or have never been in a building won't care but an OSU alum should be outraged by his comment.

Give Tressel the boot

The NCAA shouldn't suspend Jim Tressel for more than two games. It shouldn't fine him more than $250,000 dollars. It shouldn't bar him from spring practice and summer workouts.

After it finishes its investigation, the NCAA should recommend Jim Tressel's termination as head football coach at The Ohio State University.

This incident is further proof that college athletics is spinning out of control, and a message needs to be sent to university presidents and athletic directors who let rule-breaking coaches keep their jobs because they win games and sell tickets.

And that's exactly why Tressel, who said he never considered resigning, didn't tell the athletic department that he had received an e-mail from an attorney indicating OSU football players were selling memorabilia to Edward Rife. Rife, the owner of Fine Line Ink tattoo parlor, is one of the focal points of a federal drug investigation.

Tressel's contract states that he is bound to report any possible violation immediately.

He didn't.

When Regular Joe with a normal job breaches his contract, he gets the boot.

So should The Vest.

"I am sorry and disappointed this happened," Tressel said. "At the time the situation occurred, I thought I was doing the right thing."

Doing the right thing? Surely a deeply religious man with a newly released book titled "Life Promises for Success: Promises from God on Achieving Your Best" knows the difference between right and wrong.

Or does he?

Maurice Clarett and Troy Smith, the highest-profile players of the Tressel era other than current Buckeye quarterback Terrelle Pryor, were both suspended for accepting improper benefits. Tressel also had a player do the same thing at Youngstown State.

It's clear that Tressel, also author of "The Winner's Manual," wants to win at all cost. The mantra is shared by athletic director Gene Smith and university President E. Gordon Gee, who make up the university's "Big Three."

When asked whether he considered firing Tressel, Gee gave a clear indication of who actually runs the university.

"No, are you kidding?" Gee said with a laugh. "Let me be very clear: I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me."

I rest my case.

At this point OSU has given Tressel a slap on the wrist. The NCAA should break his arm.

Yeah, no kidding!! I was shocked to see it on their own newspaper! Bet he's getting plenty of hate-mail too, if the some of the comments posted below the article are any indicator!!

The one comment that I heard that Tressel said keeps sticking in my head, "I plan to grow from this." Grow? Grow what? Grow a pair? He obviously doesn't have one!! That quote came from the Yahoo article:

schmuck alumni should be proud.
