Parting fee for Krebs if he leaves for OSU?
Parting fee for Krebs if he leaves for OSU?
"IF" Ohio State were to snag Kreb (which I hope doesn't happen), I think we should somehow swing a contractual agreement with Ohio State for a home-and-home series in football and basketball with BG as compensation. I feel that would only be appropriate. It would help offset the loss, somewhat, if it were to happen. Yeah, I know, I'm dreaming and I know it. But think about it.....playing the Buckeyes out of the friendly confines of the Horseshoe and getting Ron Lewis to come back to BG for games would be PRICELESS!!!
GO BG!!!

The only reason this ever happens with coaches is when big time money is owed.BGSU33 wrote:"IF" Ohio State were to snag Kreb (which I hope doesn't happen), I think we should somehow swing a contractual agreement with Ohio State for a home-and-home series in football and basketball with BG as compensation. I question whether Krebs even has a long term contract. At $142,000 per year, I can't see how we would have a $1 million buy out clause attached ... which is the kind of money we'd need to talk Ohio State into something like that.
Supposedly, it would have cost Brandon $500,000 to get out of his current contract right now and go to another school.
To pay that, Nevada might have had to resort to games... maybe a home and home in basketball along with a single football game at our place. (Not sure that gets us to $500,000, but it would come down to whatever UNLV and BGSU could have agreed upon.)

Per the Blade article today, Krebs' contract goes through June 30, 2009.Schadenfreude wrote:BGSU33 wrote:I question whether Krebs even has a long term contract.

Okay.
Well, that still leaves the question of a buyout clause.
If Krebs was smart enough to include a huge buyout clause in Brandon's contract, I would hazard a guess that he was *also* smart enough to make sure such a clause *wasn't* included in his contract.
Or, barring that, I bet he had an out for Ohio State. I don't think it's been a secret that's a job he would take... and, heck, maybe its one of the only ones he would take.
But they will be.kdog27 wrote:Right, we do not want them in there anyway.Schadenfreude wrote:Let 'em stand outside.bgmaggot00 wrote:But where in the Hell are you going to fit all the da$n OSU "fans" if we played them here? You can't exactly put up 70,000 temporary bleachers.
That's what makes it almost pointless to play OSU at home. Forget all the monetary issues which make it absolutely impossible. Think solely about the game, after everything has been decided. I think the absolute BEST we could hope for is 50/50 between OSU & BG fans. I'm betting that the actual ratio would be worse, when you consider that a large % of our students & alumni would be rooting for OSU.
Think about it we draw 20-22k on a normal game day. Of that group, how many of them would root for OSU over BG? I'm betting a lot more than we would like to think. Throw in the additional 8-9 thousand to sell the place out, probably all OSU fans, and we're looking at home game with no home field advantage. Worst of all we took a financial hit in the butt to get a home game with no home field advantage. Why? You may as well play down there and at least make out financially.
Now if you're going to play it in CBS so its at least not a financial disaster, I could see it. You'll sell out CBS (approx 72,000 seats), and you might get 15,000 rooting for BG. Still not a home game.
For evidence of this check out OSU @ Cinci (something Geiger declared would never happen w/ any other Ohio school, but he's leaving). That OSU-cincy game was about 90% OSU fans, so I think 15k @ CBS against OSU is a VERY optimistic number.

WELCOME TO DOYT PERRY STADIUM! (Those of you lucky enough to get a ticket)bgmaggot00 wrote:But where in the Hell are you going to fit all the da$n OSU "fans" if we played them here? You can't exactly put up 70,000 temporary bleachers.
Sell the tickets for $75 each (we charge more for certain home games). First offer to Season Ticket holders, then Falcon Club members at a certain level (watch the number of people that increase their FC donation so they can get tickets), then the general public (IF there are any available at this stage). You keep a certain number of seats set aside as student tickets and give the Blackeyes maybe 2,000 tickets to sell or distribute as they wish.
Then log onto to eBay and look for some fantastic ticket prices.

That is all very true but I would still rather play OSU in Bowling Green that Columbus. Chances of a victory in BG are exponetially better, well maybe that much better, but our chances of success are not great in the shoe. I'll take 50/50 over 85/15. I know it will not happen but it would be nice to see a game in BG stadium where there were absolutley no seats. I know we have had a soldout games in the past, but there were still pleanty of extra room to be found.hammb wrote:But they will be.kdog27 wrote:Right, we do not want them in there anyway.Schadenfreude wrote:Let 'em stand outside.bgmaggot00 wrote:But where in the Hell are you going to fit all the da$n OSU "fans" if we played them here? I didn't say it'd be a bad idea. I merely stated that it wouldn't be a real great home field advantage. Sure I think our chances of winning would be increased over playing in the horseshoe, that goes without saying. All monetary issues being equal, sure play in the Doyt, it'd be cool. However, given that the money is involved, I think I'd rather take the payout to play in the 'shoe than take a big financial loss to have a home game that won't even be a home field advantage.Schadenfreude wrote:If everything else could be worked out -- and it couldn't -- the argument that half of Perry Stadium would be filled with Buckeye fans does not convince me that hosting Ohio State would be a bad idea.Falconfreak90 wrote:Hammb is correct on these points....it's unfortunate, but the truth.
