Re: Chauncey Orr=Blade first team all whatever area
Definitely reading too much into it. This is a big decision. They have lived in the East. His sister played at Fordham. He might consider any number of places home. I heard Coach Orr say on the radio that the only thing was that if he didn't go to BG he couldn't go to another MAC School.
It is his life.

Re: Chauncey Orr=Blade first team all whatever area
Well I hope he picks BG. But I do understand 100% it being his choice, not anyone else's. That said, I want us to get the best players we can to come to BG. To get a First Team All-Ohio player to come to BG is always huge. He would be playing his first season in the new arena, his parents would be able to see him play, he would certainly have a shot at playing time as a frosh, and oh yeah, his dad is the head coach. When I see examples of high school stars who could have played nearly anywhere they wanted in Trey Zeigler at CMU or Ray McCallum at Detroit, but pick to play for the father, it says a lot to me. Same for the situation with Jim Larranaga as both Jay (BG) and Jon (GMU) played for him. Or Bryce Drew who had all kinds of schools wanting him, but he decided to play for his father at Valpo. So yes, I really hope Chauncey picks BG.
GO BG!!!

Re: Chauncey Orr=Blade first team all whatever area
I think he will be at BG. Despite the things that I said about needing a CEO of the program Orr has a three year contract left and I dont think he has been so bad that he deserves to be bought out at a major tag. I think he just needs to maybe reach out to the public more and be a bit more dynamic. (As a 6-10 ex NBA player he is going to be a memorable person to meet for someone from NWO, (as is Dennis Hopson) maybe he is already doing the gladhanding this programs needs....I am isolated from that, there is nothing that indicates he is incapable of it). I would gamble that Chauncey is just waiting for things to settle on our roster a little bit more.
I find it very interesting that he does not exist on rivals, scout or espn's recruiting services. 1st team all ohio doesn't necessarily mean he will be a star but if you consider the company he is with I would certainly take the risk. I was afraid we were over stating his worth because of the obvious connection to him but first team all Ohio Division 1, with guys going to Big Ten schools and West Virginia is good enough for me.

Re: Chauncey Orr=Blade first team all whatever area
Could be that there is some assumption that he will play for his dad and that their is no need to scout him. Or, it could be that no one thinks his skills translate to the Div I college level.Globetrotter wrote:I find it very interesting that he does not exist on rivals, scout or espn's recruiting services. 1st team all ohio doesn't necessarily mean he will be a star but if you consider the company he is with I would certainly take the risk. Exactly. For Comparison Trey Zeigler was all over those sites. From what I saw of video (brief brief video) of Chauncey he looks like a heady tweener type who might be able to provide minutes at the 2 and 3. He looks very quick but also not quick at the same time. He is not a waterbug like JCraw but his quick twitch (this is above my head for me to really comment on but I am trying to make this pt and its complicated) ability seems to be really good. He gets into and out of breaks quickly and his spin move inthe practce video seems to show great fluidity. He doesn't seem to have good hops. Even at 6-3/4 it looks like he might struggle to dunk. His shot looks very pretty although its slow and low (just like the tempo) and that might hurt him. I don't see a star in his game, but I could see a Scott Thomas like player. I don't see a killer instinct in his game either.Warthog wrote: Could be that there is some assumption that he will play for his dad and that their is no need to scout him. Those videos (I would appreciate your take).

Another surprise, at least to me, is that Larry Nance Jr. has not been signed by anyone, nor are there any stories indicating where he might go... at 6'7", and his genes, you'd think someone would've been after him big time by now.

From the rockette board:
The Wolverine.com is reporting today that the University of Toledo is heavily recruiting Richfield, OH Revere High School, 6-7 Forward Larry Nance Jr., who is the son of the former NBA great with the same last name for the 2011 class. Nance has grown six inches in the last two years. He is averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game and has improved his game dramatically since last season. With Michigan Coach John Beilan in attendance, he led his 19-1 team with 18 points and 14 rebounds last night in a victory over #3 Akron Buchtel. Nance Jr. reportedly would love to get an offer from Michigan but has not received one as of yet. He reportedly has a nice touch out to 18 feet, has tremendous leaping ability, and loves to rebound and block shots. Besides Toledo, most MAC schools along with Wake Forest and Duquense are recruiting him.

Re: Chauncey Orr=Blade first team all whatever area
I've always found the all-state rankings to be a flaky and unreliable indicator of players quality. These rankings are determined by the media, for starters. So, we have beat reporters for local papers in Warren, Atehens, and Springfield influencing the vote on players all over the state. Also, I can't say for sure what the criteria are and how much politics are involved.
I would much sooner trust a source like Rivals than these all-state rankings, although the scouting sources are far from rigorous themselves.

And all of them are just a snapshot of what the player is today, not what he might become.
