THIS is what worries me about the Big Can't Count Hockey Conference! The money and the elitist attitude that comes with it and what it did to D1 football is what makes me worry about the future of D1 hockey. I hope with all my heart that what makes college hockey such a unique and special sport doesn't become what happened to college football.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second." ~~USCHO Poster "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got." ~~USCHO Poster, AFTER Tech beat us #NeverGiveUp

Nothing feels the same as the rush of seeing a team score or beat an OSU, MSU, or UM. Though it has been a very long time since BGSU did that on a regular and predictable basis. College hockey is a small world, even with a B10 conference coming. Paths will cross, things will move on, this too shall pass. Whatever forms out of this mess, will place BGSU closer to winning a league title, returning to the NCAAs, and more competitive recruiting as compared to its peers. Nothing bad as far as that goes.
BGSU was there when the CCHA formed, and was the major force in its rise. This is BGSU's chance to be part of the formation of the "next big thing."
I assume the B10 conference has a women's division, something most other schools can't contribute too.
Also, I won't be shocked if we see two or three other B10 schools start hockey teams in the next five years.

The reason those three teams left the CCHA -- and the reason Minnesota and Wisconsin left the WCHA -- was the same: money. The Big Ten can hold a hockey tournament, sell tickets, and make more money. This also gives the league more programming for the Big Ten Network, and hockey is quality weekend program that is almost certain to make more money. Finally, with only six teams, even a home-and-home schedule gives you just 20 dates, meaning you can schedule 12 more games. Big Ten schools can schedule more home games, meaning another chance to sell tickets and -- all together now -- make more money.
Thanks John! My feelings exactly. It's all about the MONEY when it comes to the Big Can't Count Conference.

Interestingly enough, I clicked on the embedded link about BG's hockey program nearly folding. It's amazing to read that article from a year ago January and how things feel now regarding Falcon Hockey's future!

They've ruled out Hell?

What other programs do you think the CCHA should target from other conferences?
Sorry I'm just now getting to this question. I could see the CCHA making a play to add these teams:
1) UAH (foregone conclusion at this point)
2) Robert Morris
3) RIT
Add in the potential of other schools adding programs and I think the CCHA can survive as one of the smaller conferences in hockey.
The Big Ten will NEVER invite a school that isn't "all sports." They don't want to give up any of the BTN money.
But the majority of the games against Michigan, MSU and OSU most likely would be on the road.
"We're going to play fewer games and fewer home games against those schools," BG athletics director Greg Christopher said.
The Big Ten schools likely will fill the majority of their non-league dates with home games, allowing those schools to generate even more income.
"They're not going to be leaving their buildings," Christopher said. He added hockey could become like football and basketball where bigger schools like Michigan offer smaller schools a 2-for-1 deal, the smaller schools play twice at the bigger school in return for the big school coming to the smaller school once. Or the bigger schools may offer a simple financial guarantee to the smaller school for one trip to the bigger school.
Gee, this sounds familiar....just like BCS football!! And EXACTLY what I feared would happen.
this sucks.
