Sounded like there was a BIG crowd there tonight!!
GO BG!! BEAT UT!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second." ~~USCHO Poster "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got." ~~USCHO Poster, AFTER Tech beat us #NeverGiveUp

a few things -- first off, this game solidifies us in my mind as the best team in this league. We played really shaky, missing a lot of shots down low and from the line. Couple that with horrendous first-half officiating and you can see how they got us. I'm not making excuses, I just think we're better than they are after watching the game. Second, the advantage EMU had over us tonight was clearly point guard play. Kate is going to be a great player, but her inexperience showed tonight. This is no fault to her at all, she played as a hard as always, she just needs to keep fighting and learning every day. We could not get into our offense tonight. The only offense we had was one-on-one penetration and you can't beat a good team that way. This isn't a cut on anyone, just an observation. Finally, and I know I'll probably get reamed for this, I can not believe we didn't start fouling to extend the game at the end. Down by three with a 7-8 second differential on the shot clock and not fouling is a bad call in my opinion. I don't like pinning all of our hopes on a desperation three and that was the best case scenario. I think we should have fouled and tried to extend the game as Eastern had missed clutch free throws all night long. Knapp had the ball and I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather have on the line. I just think there is a better chance they miss some free throws than them missing a shot, not getting fouled or getting an O-board, and us hitting a contested deep tre in 7 seconds. Oh well, They are a good team and they beat us. I think we're gonna come out mad and DESTROY Hoogewhatzit and the sprockets.
While I agree the officiating was terrible in the first half (I think I'll bring my rule book to the next game and the let the refs read what constitutes traveling), we got beat tonight because we did not REBOUND the ball.
Give these women some credit though. They hung tough and were in this game.
Jacobs4Heisman - I agree with you. I thought we should have fouled at the end as well (so let them ream both of us).

Sorry I missed you, too!! I had the women's game playing on the bigger radio in the room, then put the men's game on the little radio in my ear...I feel a little schizophrenic after that!! Not sure about the 22nd, may have a conflict, but we'll keep you posted!!

Fouling would have put EMU in a two shot situation, and iof they make one of the two the game is OVER. They were not going to try to score so NOT fouling was the best strategy available
if they make one of two, you go down the floor and get a quick two which EMU would have allowed because they don't want to foul. Now you're down 2 with 20 seconds left. It's all a guessing game dependent on them making free throws. What I'm saying is fouling a team that couldn't hit free throws gives us a better chance to win. If they run the clock to 10 seconds and score, get fouled then, or get ANOTHER offensive rebound, the game's over then too and we don't even get a low percentage heave to tie. They were shooting about the same percentage from the floor as from the line anyway and cleaning the offensive boards all night since over the back is apparently no longer a violation.
EMU deserves a lot of credit. They haven't beaten us four straight by some sort of cosmic accident. They completley took us out of our game offensively. We didn't score too much on anything out of our sets, most of our points came on individual efforts. EMU was particularly effective doubling down on Mann when she got the ball inside. They were quick and the help came from a variety of directions, so it was tought to adjust to.
EMU really crashes the boards too
We had problems matching up defensively with Coleman and the #32 Kilgore, they really gave us fits.
Tene Lewis played the second half without her face mask. I don't know if it broke, or if she just got tired of it.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Did anyone else notice we seemed to have 5 players all around the arc at the same time quite often in the game? When they did spread out, someone would cut but instead of getting a pass, the ball handler would drive the the other block and end up getting double teamed and still attempting a shot. Lack of rebounds and bad refs don't help either, but it seemed like the players weren't communicating very well. I also noticed half the shots went in and right back out of the baskets. I swear they were cursed tonight!!

I have to correct you. Lebron is actually masculing Tene. She had the mask long before LJ did.
Incidentally, she is the most beautiful masked woman I know!

Man, a tough , tough loss. Eastern Mich shows why there tops in the Mac right now. But we made em' look even better with pitiful turnovers and terrible passing and the like. I couldn't stand they way the players were just standing around for the most part. If the men played like the ladies did last night DD would be fit to be tied. There was no motion at all in the offene most of time. Way too many people standing around. That will get you know where. Again , it looks like Curt is going to have to put these girls through layup drills for the next week. What is so god-awful hard about layup? :coo-coo: But thanks goodness for the crowd. Crowd was great , and getting over 1,000 was amazing, yes finally. Lets see some more of that! Also Coach Miller needs to instruct the ladies on the finer points of the basic pump fake. Can we see a pumb face once in a while instead of seeing all of our layups getting rejected? The ladies are probably mad and its key to take it out on ole' Bancroft High. :-\
LETS GO LADY FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRUSH THE ROCKETTES!!!!!
I went solo as Michelle had to work late last night. Eastern showed why they are the class of the MAC right now but we could have won the game. We missed a lot of layups there in the second half. I didn't look at the box score so I'm not sure what our shooting percentage was, but we missed a lot of shots during a stretch in the second half. Eastern's gameplan was to take away Ali and Liz, and they appeared to accomplish that. Then, at the end, with the shot clock winding down, Ryan Coleman hits a big three to put them up 51-46. I'm glad she's a senior. Our team will be fine. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we went up to Ypsilanti and returned the favor on their home court. That was a winnable game last night. Michelle and I are heading up to Toledo Saturday. We're really looking forward to that one!
