There is no way the same sort of success next year would draw the same reaction-you don't want a reputation as the school that wins WNIT Championships. For now, an increase in the already large WBB following and the ability to show recruits a rabid crowd of 7,000 + tearing the roof off for the Rockets is something that can't be topped in the short term. While I would rather make the NCAA (and we will), this worked out better for this year.

Agreed and agreed. I forgot to mention earlier that I was very impressed with the crowds UT got during the tournament run.
I know it`s been stated that Cullop`s contract has been extended but does anybody know for how long? I heard on the radio this morning that she signed on until 2020. That`s a heck of a long extension.

2020 is correct and it corresponds to the vision acuity of our AD. She's a proven commodity so the length of the contract isn't a problem. The raise is not extreme given what competitors could potentially offer and just about anyone would accept less money to be able to coach at UT.
Mike O'Brien wrapped this up quickly and reassured recruits, alumni and the coach herself that UT will make commitments for winners. And Cullop is a winner in every way. I loved Cullop's line to Kowalczyk: "Todd, I can't wait to sit up there for your celebration!" UT athletics are definitely on the upswing.
I think it's also great to have the top two teams in the conference as bitter rivals seperated by just 20 miles. Here's to BG vs. Toledo in the next 15 MAC Title Games!!!

Not to throw cold water on the love fest here, but
1) Contract extentions at this level are symbolic gestures. They could extend her for the next 50 years and if she wants to leave, she'll leave. Is she a lifer at UT? Don't know, but she got there by leaving a mid-major school after restoring respectability.
2) Minimizing an NCAA trip by saying "one and done" is getting a little old. It could have been "one minute and done," it's the NCAA tournament. The President of the United States was not choosing sides in the UT/Delaware matchup with Doris Burke on ESPN. BG's experience included playing in the state of Ohio in front of a raucous following earned by winning the MAC tournament. I'll take that any day of the week over some glorified Miss Congeniality title.
3) For me, Toledo jamming 7,000 into their place for an NIT game was a product of how little there is to do in Toledo at the end of a long winter and the desperation of an abused fan base that might have turned out for a tiddlywinks tournament just the same.

Let me know when the next 'Tiddlywink' tournament will be. That may be something exciting to watch. It will sure be better than the Monster Jam I saw in Huntington Center or the Charlie Sheen, throw Detroit under the bus tour.
Toledo has ALWAYS had the largest fan base for MAC basketball, even under former coach Ehlen. Toledo also has a larger population than all but one other MAC school. Toledo population is 10x bigger than BG alone. I applaud the Rocket fans for coming to their games but with a city that large it should be expected. I will still take constant NCAA births over a WNIT championship anyday but it is a nice consolation prize. One thing it did do was allow the underclassmen to get about 15 more practices and 6 more games of experience.

No, no- there was NO value whatsoever, Cullop is leaving anyhow, bored Toledoans were forced to go to the WNIT because there is no Art Museum, zoo, other sports opportunitites, concerts, etc and Obama is a huge Falcon fan!

Wow...Really??? If you weren't impressed at all by Toledo winning the WNIT and/or selling out its arena twice in a row, and hosting teams such as Auburn, Alabama, Syracuse, and USC, please never follow women's basketball again. Had the situation been reversed and Toledo was one and done and BG won the WNIT, this comment wouldn't have been tolerated on the UT boards because no matter how much we hate our rivals, a WNIT title would've been great for the conference and BG as well. Unbelievable class...
Toledo winning the WNIT is good for the MAC. But I am getting a little tired of people (UT fans) saying that they would rather have the WNIT championship than qualifying for the NCAA tournament. It was a great run for UT but all the games were at home. I understand that the UT Athletic department stepped up and bid for all the games but the accomplishment would have been greater if at least a few of the games would have been on the road.
As to Coach Cullop, I'm sure there is a buyout clause in her newly extended contract. That is standard in just about every coach's contract. That doesn't mean she is leaving tomorrow, but she might not stay until the 2019-20 season either.
Let's just enjoy everything that has happened, but do not rub it in the other schools face. That has happened to our head coach while he was in Toledo last week.

I see three recent threads re: UT women's basketball in this forum. None were started by UT fans. You are welcome to your opinion but hard to imagine you would expect us to not express ours. I've heard from about two Rocket fans who say they would rather win the WNIT than qualify for the NCAA. Nevertheless, unless you were a part of the experience you can't know how much fun it was to see game after game against big name opponents played in our humble little arena in front of an intimate group of 5,000-7,000 screaming maniacs. It was truly a great ride and all the better for being at home the whole way. The vast majority of posts on these threads are also from Falcon fans so you shouldn't be too exhausted....
It was cool ut won the WNIT...they earned it and ended the year on an 18 game winning streak. Give 'em credit...
Would have been great to see BG win a game or two in the NCAA...we just ran into the wrong team as a match up. We still added a MAC record 11th Tourney Title and another post season appearance. Finished 28-5? Hell yeah, any day.
BOTH schools had excellent years...makes the rivalry even better. ut still sux, though.

To emphasize the obvious, yes going to the NCAA tournament is more preferred and revered than the WNIT in any season. But given the exposure, attendance, money, extra home games, and name opposition, I'd take a WNIT trophy this year over a one and done in the NCAA. I believe many programs would agree with that. As for the future, Toledo's only goal should be getting to the Big Dance and winning THAT national championship.
Yeah, it was great for Toledo but I think you are overexaggerating the "exposure" quite a bit. Few outside of Toledo even knew you were playing in the WNIT, much less that you won it.
Although I suppose it might help a tad with recruiting but I doubt Collup is selling recruits on a WNIT championship instead of an NCAA bid...and we all know that this doesn't change anything on the national landscape. We are still a 1 bid conference.
