Smart money is on him joining Gwinett (ECHL) next year. For his benefit I hope he finds somewhere that is able to get through to him because from what I've seen and heard he was uncoachable this year.

My opinion is that he received bad coaching in the past. Basically coaches that didn't force him to play both sides of the ice simply because he could score. They may have tried to coach that in to him, but gave up because he refused. He finally ran in to a coach that wouldn't let him get away with that so he left. What he will find out is that at this level and higher you do what the coach tells you or you sit and watch.

I would have HOPED he would have figured that out THIS year.
For HIS own good he better be better 'get it' soon...because at the pro-level it's NOT just "sit and watch"...you get released.

Random thoughts on college hockey with Jordan Samuels-Thomas batting in the leadoff position:

Samuels-Thomas' decision to leave Bowling Green is the latest step forward in the rebuilding of the Falcon program.
The sophomore forward's terrific offensive skill will be missed, but there's more to the game than goals and assists.
Even though Samuels-Thomas was BG's leading scorer the last two seasons, there were too many games where he was a non-factor and it's obvious he wasn't buying into the ideas of head coach Chris Bergeron.
Bergeron has stressed daily improvement and striving for greatness every day, but Samuels-Thomas was falling short of that. He was a healthy scratch five times this season, including four times during the second half of the season.
Bergeron's handling of Samuels-Thomas sends a powerful message to current and future Falcons that no player is more important than the program, and that players will be pushed to reach their potential through higher expectations.
And setting higher expectations through daily improvement will help BG reach its goal of returning to the top of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

Let's make one thing clear here, losing productive players like JST is not a good thing for this program. We need talent anywhere we can find it, and you could make an argument that he was one of our MVPs from last season.

You couldn't be more wrong (but keep trying).

One of the problems at the tail end of the Paluch era was players playing for the name on the back of the uniform instead of the front. If he is not listening to the coaches and pulling a Randy Moss and playing when he wants to play, then his getting out of town is....you're right...it's not a good thing....it's a GREAT thing.

We need talent, but we need talent that wants to be a part of a winning program. The talent needs to believe in Coach Bergeron and his staff. If he can't buy into the program, then he does not need to wear our jersey.

24! You are dead wrong. Offensive talent is great but when your not willing to play both ways you need to go. Other players will see the lack of effort on the D end and then they think they can get away with it and now you have multiple issues. Having a talented offensive players does not produce a championship caliber team. How many championships did AI bring to Philly? LJ to Cleveland? You need to have players play both ways and buy into a system and not all be offensive minded. If you attended or watched numerous games you would have seen this out of JST. As mentioned, he was a healthy scratch FIVE times. I never attended any practices but I assume he played the same way in practice. That had to be a problem in practice. You only get a certain number hours of practice time a week and the coach doesn't want to take a good portion of his time addressing defensive issues brought on by JST. I admit, I thought JST could possibly been a future Hobey Baker winner if he ever decided to play D, but with him on the ice and the puck in the defensive end it was like we were on a penalty kill. I wish JST well but I am not heartbroken to see him leave.

I can accept a player whose contribution is primarily offensive, but he's got to score quite a bit more than 9-12--21 to offset defensive lapses.

JST was 1 dimensional and a poor skater at best. There were too many games were he was a complete non-factor. He would have doubled his point total if he played every game at the the highest level he was capable of and listened to the coach. Also, you have to play your best at both ends of the ice. His most effective defensive move was waiting for the puck to come near him so he could pick it up and skate with it. Inevitably, though, he ended up turning it over finding himself 15 feet behind the guy who took it from him. Painful and frustrating to watch.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Transfer. Great hands on the ice, but slow feet do not make a championship caliber hockey player. I wish him the best, but mostly I hope he finds a way to improve his game. He has great potential, just wasn't able to to realize it on this team, unfortuantely.
