Some good posts on here from three stooges and others. Miller has been in the mix for larger better paying jobs prior to this year in a serious way. This year with names like NM (Krebs), Cal (PAC 12 etc, you have seen the media follow this closely. The rising interest in women's hoops drives this interest and coverage on sites like this one etc all across the country.
More people care about the sport than in even, say, 2007.
Because there are only 50 "better" jobs than BG's in the country- simply my estimate/jobs that you would examine/not necessarily only pay better- Miller is not always going to be in the mix for a variety of reasons. But he sits solidly in the mix in some of the searches this year and in other years. the last job to fill is Cal- if he is not their coach (and I certainly understand the UCSB/Cal/west coast and, yes, gender advantage for one of the other candidates), he will be at BG and do a fabulous job.
Curt Miller is a professional. An intense focused coach and a maniac worker. Believe me, he knows BG is a great place to live and coach. He gets it.
And when you are battling a nearly unlimited one school in the state budget like NM (don't mention Las Cruces- doesn't count there) and a PAC 12 we're canceling sports to fund only the ones we care about while talking to big donor alums budgets like Cal, you will never be able to outbid them at BG. Never. Short of a massive Frack style endowment focused on coaching staff salaries. The regular dept cannot compete there. We can improve the lot- witness Roos' deal etc- but we can't outbid NM or Cal.
But we can provide a super environment- and in the end we stay one of the top 60 jobs and one of the top 40 programs. Yes, we need to get our whole league up and going to get to two bids and yes we will be rebuilding to a degree.
BG is a great place to be a women's basketball coach. Now add the Stroh Center. Wow. Whomever our coach is next year, they will be in quite a good situation for the future- if rebuilding to some extent next year.
Seven straight MAC titles. Amazing.
Go Falcons!

Uh, Bill Frack has crossed the street to see a women's BB game. I was with him. Oh, and BG won.HoopsFan wrote:While it may be true that Miller's success should be rewarded, there are people who wouldn't cross the street to see a Women's BB game. (ref: Bill Frack).
If the men's record was the same as the women's, you already know what the attendance difference would be. Up until the 3rd or 4th Orr season, the men were still beating the women in attendance. Of course the men had a head start, they were playing in 1910 something and the women didn't start until 1970 something

Did he cross Wooster or Ridge? I hope this obsession people have with Mr Frack (FWIW, I don't know him) isn't making him regret his generosity.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I may have taken liberties with my response. We didn't actually cross the street. We parked in the lot next to Anderson. You say potato, I say mustard.Flipper wrote:Did he cross Wooster or Ridge? Potatos and mustard? That's as sorry a combination as Gene Cross and UT basketball...

Many people prefer mustard potato salad, but then again, many do not.Flipper wrote:Potatos and mustard? That's as sorry a combination as Gene Cross and UT basketball...
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Me, I'm with FF- I think mustard and potatoes go together like Gene Cross and Ottawa Hills housewives.
