Good luck to him- the nerve damage can take a loooooong time to heal-last time I broke my ankle I had no feeling in much of my foot for three years. I recall when he went down-that's tough for an athlete to not compete but it sounds like he's got a good shot because of his work ethic.

Yup...the nerve damage can be frustrating as hell. I snapped my left humerus last October...they put it back together with a plate and some screws..and I still have a lot of numbness and such in my left hand.
Got a wicked scar out of the deal though....
Good luck to Zach...work hard and work smart!!

To add to your growing collection of MANY other scars, right? You are up to double digits aren't you, Flip?h2oville rocket wrote:Flipper wrote: Got a wicked scar out of the deal though....![]()

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Yeah...I'm building quite a collection. Here's to hoping I don't add to it this year...or at least I avoid breaking a bone or getting cut on...

Honest scars (bullet wounds, cuts from knife fights, chainsaw slipups, animal bite scars) all have more cache' in my opinion than surgical scars, although those are cool, too. But I agree with you, Flip- hope if you get any new ones they are from simple flesh ripping accidents as opposed to purposeful entry with the intent of fixing something you did to your innards.

I have about a 12" surgical scar running across my belly. Can anyone top that?h2oville rocket wrote:Flipper wrote:Yeah...I'm building quite a collection. Here's to hoping I don't add to it this year...or at least I avoid breaking a bone or getting cut on...

12" inch surgical scar....that's a good one. You should tell people you got knifed by the Medellin cartel back in the 80's. That would sound tougher.
I almost got the coup de grace of scars when i snapped by humerus. The bone almost came out of my arm...you could see the one end of it pushing against the skin. That would have been a good one to talk about. I mean, how many people actually get to see their own skeleton?

Same here Flip - When I was in kindergarten, I was racing my older sister down the street on my bike, hit the curb to our driveway, flipped over the handlebars, crashed into our pine tree and blacked out. When I came to, my radius and ulna had nearly broken through the skin. Must've been raised a good 2-3 inches.Flipper wrote:I almost got the coup de grace of scars when i snapped by humerus. Sweet!!
I slipped and shattered my left elbow in 1986 and then did the humerus last fall...both times I could hear the bones snap on impact. It's kinda weird lying there and getting your bearings..."ok, I broke a bone...which one was it?"

My son broke his elbow last fall. Feel off the top of his sister's bunk bed. Took me about 20minutes to realize that he had hurt it (it was the elbow bending the other way that clued me in). Hoped it was just dislocated, so tried to run over to the ER and get it fixed before my wife came home. Once he got comfortable, he wasn't even crying. Get to the ER, and before the X-Rays, the nurses said it was likely broken, and boy did he do a good job. Knocked the tip of the humorous off and displaced it up his arm. Went over to Mott, and 3pins and 48hrs later we were home. I'm pretty amazed at how calm he really was during the whole thing.

I am no stranger to sports related injuries, but thankfully none were too serious. I have played football and lacrosse in the past and have had broken ribs, broken fingers, ankle sprains, and a coulda-been serious shoulder injury that thankfully only bruised. I sprained my ankle running on a trail through the woods over spring break and it still isn't quite 100 percent healthy. It doesn't stop me from doing anything as I run regularly and have played sports on it, but rolling the ankle wrong still hurts like reading birdman's posts.

I was in a bad car accident back in 1978 that landed me in the hospital for 3 weeks (the surgical scar was from a kidney transplant to my brother, not this). While I was still in the car I recall looking down at my right leg and seeing my kneecap sticking up. My knee was basically torn open (I ended up losing the kneecap.) Does that count as seeing your own skeleton?Flipper wrote:12" inch surgical scar....that's a good one. You should tell people you got knifed by the Medellin cartel back in the 80's.
