Here is an excerpt from the Akron Beacon-Journal's Terry Pluto "Direct from Pluto" story:
"After hiring a coach, new General Manager Phil Savage's biggest question is picking a QB.
Here are his choices:
• Garcia, who should be sent packing.
• Kelly Holcomb, who should be kept as a veteran backup.
• Josh Harris, who has some athletic ability but no experience.
• Luke McCown, who was totally overwhelmed. He also has some raw talent, but who knows if he can play? A general manager from a team that annually is a contender told me, ``McCown is probably going to top out at being an OK backup. For example, we like your kid (Akron's Charlie Frye) much better. We think he can start in a few years.''
• Some fans have mentioned Drew Brees or Phillip Rivers as possibilities from San Diego. The Chargers have a lot of money invested in Rivers, so I'd be interested in Brees. But I don't know what the Chargers plan to do.
• The Browns need to find a QB, but just as important, they must begin to build an offensive line."
He neither praises nor endorses Harris. Just states the facts.

Well last year the Lions - Brown worked out a deal right before the Lions picked their #5 draft pick.
Maybe the Lions - Browns could work out another deal. I always been a Steelers fan, and I will follow Harris with the Brownies and all but will always root for the Steelers.
Maybe the Lions could trade Joey Harrington and backup McMahon to the Browns for Harris and Garcia. This way I dont even have to watch a Brownies game next year, except when they play the Steelers.
Also, Josh is 1-0 at Ford Field. Would have the best winning percentage of anyone QB they would possibly have.

That'd be insane from a Browns' perspective! No wonder the hilljack Steelers fans would want us to do that.bgsufan1972 wrote:Well last year the Lions - Brown worked out a deal right before the Lions picked their #5 draft pick.

We trade for a guy who has a monster salary and has basically been a washout, and a guy that has no ability. In return we give up a veteran who we may as well just cut, and a youngster who has some promise, but hasn't played yet. No thanks.
Detroit couldn't get a water boy in exchange for Harrington right now. He's making #3 pick money and playing like a journeyman backup at best.

You sell him short.hammb wrote:Detroit couldn't get a water boy in exchange for Harrington right now. He's making #3 pick money and playing like a journeyman backup at best.
The team continues to make strides. I'm not certain Harrington is the answer. But I'm not certain he isn't, either.
At worst, he's a competent No. 2.

Not really Schad. You said at worst he's a competent 2. I said he's playing like a backup at best. We aren't that far off. Thing is he's getting paid like someone in the top 10 of the league. That's the thing with the NFL. Due to the salary cap you have to pay to your salary. If you're the lowest played player at your position then its not the end of the world if you're the worst. But if you're the highest paid at your position you darn well better be among the best. I'd have to look up his actual salary numbers, but generally a top 3 pick like him is going to be making some serious coin. He has not played up to the level of that sort of contract, IMO.Schadenfreude wrote:You sell him short.hammb wrote:Detroit couldn't get a water boy in exchange for Harrington right now. I've actually defended him quite a bit to my friends, because I don't think he's as terrible as they do. But I still don't think teams would touch him. Nobody wants a QB with a contract like that who has never played up to it. It's bad football sense.
