Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
I'm disappointed. He's a talented kid who has come no where near his top end.
I'm curious about the reasons. If you have any info, don't hold back.

Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
Strictly a guess here… 2nd strike to violation of team rules [remember the first one in his freshman year]???? McElroy seemed to be a vocal team leader and seemed to be a favorite of Coach Orr. Puzzling indeed.
Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
??? Once again, I sit here reading something like this, a kid once again leaving the program, and I sit back and remember when many of you who, APPARENTLY, KEEP DRINKING AND LOVING the Orr Koolaid, were ripping Dakich up and down Wooster street for losing players (among other things this same coach can be blamed for). And here we sit with Orr losing players EVERY YEAR to reasons we dont and wont know about. Maybe (oh GOD MAYBE) he didnt like Orr's system, and MAYBE Orr was to hard on him because he's trying to teach the kid basketball. Im not a Dakich lover, but I'm a realist, and it pains AND baffles me to see everyone sit with their hands under their azzes while a coach continues to replicate the EXACT PATTERNS that a previous coach exhibited, BUT you still support him and cherish him! I dont get it, but...........I'm sure a few of you will explain it to me.
It's not going to happen, but I will continue to plead my case until it happens in 10 months.....Orr needs to go. God forbid Chauncey transfers, but o'well, nobody was knocking down the door for him to play for them anyways. Go Falcons.

This team is way more athletic then Dakich2 teams, has more talent and depth and has not seen anywhere near the number of transfers that Dakich saw. I am not in love with Orr but he was certainly an upgrade from Dakich2.
Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
Very, very disappointing news! I really thought this upcoming year could have been his breakout season too. Damn!!! Maybe we can snag a JUCO who can score for us. I'd much rather see us replace a would-be junior who we expected to have back for two more seasons with a proven player at this point over a freshman.

Article from The Blade: http://www.toledoblade.com/BGSU/2011/05 ... -team.html
And from the ST:
Danny McElroy will not return to the Bowling Green’s men’s basketball program next season. BG head coach Louis Orr said the decision was a mutual parting of ways. “We appreciate the contributions Danny provided to the men’s basketball program over the past two years,” Orr said. “We wish him well as he moves forward.” McElroy played in 54 games over two seasons, starting 13 times, for the Falcons. In 2010-11, he averaged 5.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest. McElroy’s departure leaves a scholarship open and it is possible that Chauncey Orr, the son of BG’s head coach, could receive the grant-in-aid.
I find this statement very interesting: BG head coach Louis Orr said the decision was a mutual parting of ways.

Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
We've had several kids from Cincinatti transfer out from BG recently with Chris Knight and Danny McElroy. I believe Knight left after two seasons too. We also ran into the problem with Darren Goodson who never made it to BG, and I believe we also missed out on getting another PG from down there recently too (not Jordon Crawford), it was a PG who was supposed to be coming in with Goodson if I remember correctly.
GO BG!!!
Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
I dont have the time or willingness to do it, but if anyone wants to go thru and get a count of how may players transferred out during Dakich's first 4-5 years and compare it to Orr's, I think it would be very interesting to see those numbers.

Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
The ones on that list that stung the most for me are Ron Lewis, Chris Knight, Steven Wright, Ryne Hamblett and Danny McElroy. I know there was a lot of love and hate with Lewis, but no one can argue he was talented and the kid flat out played very well at Ohio State and even carried the Buckeyes in some game. He was actually a better player at OSU than he was at BG and had he'd stayed, he very well could have been a MAC POY candidate. He also hit a HUGE shot for OSU in the NCAA Tournament game vs Xavier. Wright left at a time where we really could have used him because we needed anyone. Hamblett's grades did him in, but Knight and McElroy left when I felt we were about to finally see what both could finally do. I think Knight was a little better player than McElroy (better scorer), but McElroy's departure stings because we were slated to have a lot coming back and I think we could have seen a much better and more productive player out of him this season. I envisioned him doubling that scoring average.orangeandbrown wrote:Here's a tracker that I do....includes the post-WVU years.

Sometimes it stinks when the basketball board is quiet in the summer, but in cases like this, sometimes quiet is very good. Let's hope McElroy will be the only loss this summer. Hopefully with him leaving it opens the door for someone else to step in and make the most of their opportunity and minutes. There is a lot of excitement leading up to this upcoming year, so let's hope this is the last of some negative news.

Re: McElroy leaves the program.....
There are a lot of things we don't know of why a player leaves. IIRC didn't Chris Knight have 2 ugly things going against him, one for grades and one for something he did at the end of the season that was staring him in the face come fall?
What happened to the "addition by subtraction" faction that always jumps in at these times LOL Anyway, it's a shame McElroy is gone, It's sad that Cam Black didn't get to play more minutes, and it's really a shame that it's only the frist of June and not the First of October
Go Falcons!
