As the starter of this honking big and informative thread, I can attest to the fact that the folks who are asking the questions want to know how we feel about the game day experience as a whole. This includes specific queries about the food, the tents, the people who work there and Coach Brandon's offensive phiolosphy.
Ok, I made that last one up.
Anyway, they also left space for open ended comments about the stadium, the game experience and life in general. I asked a question about the true nature of man...you know the usual nature/nurture arguments about what truly shapes us.
I don'ty think they'll get into that too much on the coach's show but we can always hope. Personally, I'm curious to find out Gregg Brandon's views on Kant's categorical imperative, Buber's I/Thou theories and Camus' The Plague

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

For example, next year have a giant poster made of Omar and a few other guys and hang it by the home stands so that it greets everybody as they walk in. I have seen this at other sports venues, most notably Crew stadium in Columbus.
GREAT idea...I know the Indians do that in Cleveland at the Jake.

I think I may have posted something on this issue when an earlier thread re: attendance probs. came up some time ago.
But I repeat: Marketing needs to get hold of ALL area alum groups, i.e. Cleve.,Lorain, Summit, Columbus, Detroit etc.:
Target ONE GAME, preferably early in the season as an ALUMNI SPECIAL or similar... goal would be to get at least ONE BUSLOAD of alums from each chapter, at least in Ohio and surrounding areas to the game... Have a tent in tent city, a before and after party to make it a "happening". Is this too much like Homecoming? I don't think so...as it's an alum. function (just got notice of another Cleve. area function, at another bar in Twinsburg...only plus as I see it is there is LIVE music at this event., but I personnally don't care for super LOUD music in a bar setting, so it's doubtful that I'll go.)
When I suggested the above bus trip deal to Cleve. chapter, they asked if I'd be willing to coordinate it... I said yes...they've not contacted me since.....But if Marketing hit ALL the chapters and MADE it a big deal, someone just might actually leave the bar scene and come to BG for a game and party.

You hit the nail right on the head. With such a concentration of alumni in this area, we need better communication and leadership from the alumni associationClass of 61 wrote:I think I may have posted something on this issue when an earlier thread re: attendance probs. came up some time ago.

BTW- that event they scheduled at the bar in Twinsburg is the same night as the BG-Kent hoops game at Kent. Doesn't THAT seem like a no-brainer to coordinate...??? And the women's team plays at Akron that afternoon.

Love the BUS ideas coming from, anywhere - EVERYWHERE!
Alumni or not.
Just get folks coming to the Doyt AND don't give up if it doesn't work the first time. Find out why more people did not sign and then go after them, too! Make it work.
What about marketing / advertising in ALL those small towns surrounding BG - within an hour or so drive? (Sandusky, Port Clinton, Tiffin, Willard, Lima, Delphos, Definance, Bryan, all those towns in Mich).
Put some ads in their newspapers and offer a $1.00 OFF Game Ticket - or something enticing. They are coming to see one of the leading offences in the USA!! And THEY have the potential to come back each week - with more friends.
I have always thought the Athletic Dept should invite every players local sports writer to come BG as a guest (to be wined and dinned up there where Paul sits) and ask them to write some articles about their home town kids at BG.
The locals read about it and want to come to watch them perform at BG.
Why do many people and students attend games ?? They associate, someway, with the players or coaches or band or cheerleaders. "He played at my high school", she dates my roommates brother", etc.
With our limited population, I think we need to seek every angle and set of buns we can get into the Stadium.
Then don't forget; once you get them there, you better provide all their needs - good, plentyful food, plenty of clean restrooms all of the other items you all have suggested.
It is going to be large scale, coordinated effort, to get and retain fans to come and have an overall GREAT EXPERIENCE.
One that they want to come back and do over. . . and then come to BB and Hockey and on and on. . . . and then have the anticipation (like we do) for the NEXT year.
enough.

Thanks for reminding me of the BG-KSU game...had talked to the Freak earlier about it...thought the date reminded me of something, but didn't put 2=2 together til your reminder...But it's like I said, too many seem to want to go to a bar and have "fun"...to me, that "fun" is going to see a BG team perform, home or away... I'll be at KSU, but certainly not at Twinsburg, even though I'll have to pick up Joyce since she lives there.

I'm late on this ...
I can't really add much to this. All of you have really blanketed this well. I like the bus trip ideas from other parts of the state. Michelle and I are fortunate that we live in Marion (only an hour or so away). I also think the tv games should be blacked out in the Toledo-BG area so people can't "stay home and watch." We need people in the seats, at the games. Basically anything that gets people in the seats is fine with me. You guys all know I'm big on attendance. With the product that is put on the field, there's no reason why we can't get 30,000 to these home games. Plus, I would concur with others that Bowling Green Football is a great value for the money. Shoot, our season tickets are only $11 or $12 a game. If you order your parking passes with your season tickets, you get a discount. Our parking passes were $20 for the five home games. We saved a dollar for each game, so it was like we got to park free for a game. This is probably going to sound silly to some, but I suggested they light the top part of the scoreboard. It looks great for the daytime games, but at night you can't see the Bowling Geen logo in the dark. The big B G S U looks great on the outside of the west side stadium, and I was thinking they could do the same with the top portion of the scoreboard so it could be seen in the night games. I also suggested better stocking at the concession stands. They seem to run out of a lot of things (like hot chocolate in the middle of the third quarter at a November game). Our concessions definitely need improvement. However, they are not near as bad as the concessions at you-know-where up north. Talk about a joke! I filled out our survey and sent it back right away. As I said earlier, anything that gets more fans to the games is a great idea to me.

I don't know if anybody watch "Outside the Line" on ESPN when they did a special on the owner of the Atlanta Falcons, but when he took over he face some of the same problems that BG faces, most notably low attendance. It was a good special and went into a little detail about how he turned everything around. I think the higher ups that are in charge of all that stuff should study his business model. Also, the focus should really be on people from BG, Maumee, Perrysburg. I don't know about the rest of you, but everybody I met at BG was an Ohio State fan, so they weren't willing to go to a BG game if it conflicted with OSU. If BG can really build a fan base in the aforementioned areas, attendance wouldn't be a problem.
In all fairness to the Falcons (Atlanta), they have a 60,000+ stadium which has been recently renovated. We're still playing in a stadium that needs a large renovation soon. I would love to see some permanent seating put in at the North/South ends. The long-term goal of the program should be to have the best capacity in the MAC and best attendance.
I think this is the story with every athletic facility we got (Minus the outdoor sports sans Football). Our B-Ball arena could use a little love. The ice arena could use a new ceiling with a decent sound system in it.
Granted, the SAC may help but I have not heard anything on whether we will actually get to see it built. Right now it just sounds like a nice pipe dream with possible financial backing. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid we're not going to see much improving.

So you're telling me that the 3.5 million dollars pledged to this project by Mr. Sebo is just going to sit in the bank and do nothing? We have already had reports that ground breaking will be in July.BGDrew wrote: Granted, the SAC may help but I have not heard anything on whether we will actually get to see it built. I'm not saying that at all. And, in no way do I want to be a pessimist. But, we pay our head coach a laughable wage and it wouldn't surprise me to see the same spending habits go to other aspects. Again, I hope I'm wrong!
