Basketball-If we had one schollie

Post by Globetrotter »

Any ideas of the type of player you would want if we had one schollie?

You never know if a guy will transfer or not but right now we are at max capacity.

Year-Openings-#taken (positions)
2011 2-2 (PG-Haynes)(G,C)
2012 3 (SF,SG,PF)
2013 4 (PG,SG,SF,PF)
2014 3 (C,SF)
2015 3 (G,G,C)

Just based off that it seems like we need a SF or a big guard who can play SF in the MAC.

I started checking out the recruiting websites for potential guys.
Rivals
I checked guys tied to BG and guys from Ohio and Michigan and here is a list I came up with.

1. Chauncey Orr-6-3 G-BG is the most logical guy but we might be able to have him here without a scholarship. He is no where to be found on Rivals or Scout but he clearly has some talent.

Guys Tied to BG on Rivals
2. Jared Bryant-6-8 C-Roger Bacon we offered and then reportedly pulled but it seems to still be out there. At this point that would be a ton of Centers/PF but I think you go BPA over anything else.

3. Aaron Hayes-6-2 F-Taylor, Michigan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjuCDZ3N ... re=related (I like him, really smart and wiggly and takes it to the whole, someplace said he put up 41 in a game)
4. Gary Cooper-6-8 F-Monroe, Michigan

5. Nic Greenwood-6-6 F-Clinton, Michigan
http://blog.mlive.com/highschoolbasketb ... nings.html Signed with Concordia....so nevermind
6. Ed Brown-5-11 PG-Detroit, Michigan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXq_WobFKVA (like him too, great shooter)

Rivals guys from Ohio
7. Andre Paulk-6-4 Forward or 6-1 guard depending on where you look. Now at Cincinnati St. He was originally from Kent Roosevelt so I assume he played with Cam Black. Would come in as a Jr and he would be our 5th Jr assuming he would not replace a Jr. Avg 20 pts a game for C State.
Rivals guys from Michigan
8. Samer Ozeir-6-5/8 180 guard...looks 12 in his picture. Reportedly up to 6-8. Great numbers 20pts 12 rebounds 1.7blocks A discussion board says we offered him.

He is probably my favorite but I love diversity.

Globetrotter, one SF for 2012 class to watch is current Canton McKinley Junior Da'Vontai Rorie [Desmond's brother]. per a newspaper article last fall, BG is/has talked to him. He is 6'5" or 6'6" [varies per source]. He played alot as a Soph last year and this year is the team's "go to" player. He is averaging in the 15 ppg and 8 rpg neighborhood. McKinley plays in a tough DI conference [Federal Leauge - featuring last year's D1 state champ Jackson], so I think his numbers are very legit to look at going forward.

Also, I think we need to keep adding post players, so I would support a guy like a Jared Bryant coming on board [if it's possible]. We are not very stout in the post right now as reflected in our rebounding struggles lately....

I had been looking at stats fro Timken for Rorie 2s name forever so I feared he was ineligible. I had no idea they were at 2 different schools. He seems like he would be a very nice option for the big 2/sf role.

You can choose which of two high schools you attend in Canton no matter what part of city you live in. Timken and McKinley potentially could meet in the DI Canton District final. That would be interesting

Da'Vontai Rorie [aka Rorie 2] is #32 in this video from a couple weeks ago:

Another player to watch for 2013 class is McKinley's #33 Mike Mills 6'8" Soph [started last year as Freshman]

I'd take another big in case Rorie doesn't pan out. Hopefully that free tuition for employees policy can get the younger Orr to not count against the 13.

Cooper has offers from CMU, Toledo, and St. Bonaventure, according to recruiting sites., but has BG listed as one of his top 4 on Rivals.
