Hotel to come down, BW3 to rise.

Post by NWLB »

I'm sure Transfer will be happy. I was told the now closed Quality/Knights Inn is to be town down and replaced with a new BW3.

Question now has to be if they will close the downtown location, or if like some many other things, BG will host another redundant location of a lesser chain joint. (lesser in that I'd rather see something different and maybe just a bit cooler.)

Still, it will give Frickers a run. Better location, bigger place, better parking, larger kitchen...which will pretend is the reason for slow service at Frickers, etc. And it is directly across the street from the Stroh Center.

True enough, and I can see BW3 having two spots in BG, hard to deny the foot traffic of the downtown location, it is about perfect for that kind of place.

I just wish Big Boys would spend some money and polish their place a bit. The chef from the old Maggies (on Route 25 near Levis Commons) is opening a new place inside the former Elks club. I hope he does a breakfast buffet like what Maggies used to have. Maybe the land value under Victory Inn will drive the slum-lord owners to finally sell.

it is my understanding... and I have fairly reliable information that the downtown location of BW3 will be closing and the new one will open in a new strip mall which will be opening where the old hotel was. Word on the street is also that a few bar owners are looking to move into that place and make it a new bar. Who will get the building is still up in the air.

It'd be the perfect place for my dream sports bar. A place where you can watch all the games on nice TVs and at the same time eat GOOD food.

The Maumee location is actually rather good in layout and such. I'm not curious what other places to eat and shop might be on the way. And the Shell station sits without rent or lease signs.

NWLB,
Maggie's restaurant is also in the Grand Rapids Roadhouse on Jeffers road just outside grand rapids on the Lucas county side. They offer breakfast buffets there every Sunday morning. The Roadhouse is a bar but mainly a dance hall with live entertainment every weekend (and also a campground in the back) and they offer Maggie's food there every night. Just a little self promotion, my band Haywire will be playing there this year I believe in September.

My only concern is that, currently I think BG is "under-hoteled" as it is.... would like to see a new hotel added to the current group, which doesn't give out of towners much of a choice. I prefer the HI Express myself...have already reserved my room for HC and my class reunion...#50 this year!!! GAD! Hard to believe it's been that long since I actually had to attend CLASSES at BG. :-k

I like to think we'll see one or more hotels in BG within a couple of years. The Stroh Center really does seem to be a game changer for that part of town. Just the raw numbers of that venue help. Having the Intermodal Hub in North Baltimore may help too. But we continue to be stuck in that zone between Rossford/Perrysburg and Findley.

We still need that sadly abused "victory" Inn torn down. It has become an eye-sore.

Good points, Nathan.

Someone needs to take that Victory Inn site and start from scratch. Great location.

I can't see the old Holly Lodge lasting forever. They spend nothing on the building, the reviews online are scathing, and the owners are well represented by their property. Yet I tend to think it would only be replaced with another off-the-shelf chain hotel. More likely it will be replaced with retail.

The area by Meijer is an obvious location for another hotel. The lots near Home Depot and Wal-Mart also wouldn't be a good location.

There used to be talk of the University partnering with somebody to build a campus hotel, I still think that might be a worthy idea.

This gets back to something I think, or wish, could be done with the land around the campus. The industrial rubble heap needs to go away. Sure, it adds a hill, but it is functionally useless, and has had one body dumped there….that we know of. That is a huge swath of land that could be better used than for what it is. The factory on the north side of Poe, the DOT headquarters, the Wood County highway yard, the City facilities, all would provide space for the campus. It would be nice to eventually see all of those places moved out to the north side near the fair grounds, or east of I-75.

The area by Home Depot wouldn't be bad. Direct access to Route 6 (which is just a short jump to the interstate), and close retail locations and food options.
