It is NOT gonna suck.

Ha ha...I was wondering when you'd respond to that. Hockey is going to be a challenge...a big challenge. Hopefully, a renovated Ie Arena will give the program that push it needs to get back on top in the CCHA. The question for the long term is will that mean anything?

Looks like the original post was actually 2009-2010. We actually got worse this year. Sorry, Factman is right.....this isn't acceptable. Fyi...I know we won both these trophies in 95.......not sure how we've done since then but I know it isn't this bad.

Well you KNEW I wouldn't let your comment go unchallenged!! :-D Improvement in the facilities is huge, but the biggest factor I rely on is Coach Bergeron himself. Anyone who spends ten minutes talking with him will see a guy who is extremely driven to bring this program back to where it belongs. I was a huge doubter of his hiring (mostly because he was from Miami!!), but the conversations I have had with him along with the things I hear from the players and parents only reinforce what I believed about him after the first meeting I had with him. He's the real deal, folks. Give him a little time to get his own recruits in here (we have 10 coming this fall!). Steady, forward progress is being seen. We went from 5 wins in '09-'10 to 10 wins last season, plus a second round playoff series. I'll be thrilled with 15+ wins this year, but time will tell, as always.

FALCON HOCKEY FOREVER, BABY!!!!! :supz:

After my first conversation with Gene Cross you could have inserted his name in the second sentence and had my exact thoughts.

Yeah I agree with H2O....there seemed to be a lot of talk last year from Bergeron, but not much improvement....and of their 10 wins at least 5 were against terrible teams. Other than beating a shorthanded NMU, I thought last years team underachieved considering how well Hammond played. Williams would have been the better choice......he did a better coaching job in his one season here. GC wanted to hire his own guy though....and go figure it was a Miami guy.

Bergeron had exactly 1 member on that team that he recruited and that recruit was third on the team in scoring as a Freshman. There were 4 seniors and 2 juniors on that team, the rest were Freshmen and Sophomores. A very, very young team. But, just to put things into perspective, here are some statistics;

2009 - 2010 (under Williams)

Goals-Shot attempts - BG: 71-872 OPP: 138-1218
Shot pct. - BG: .081 OPP: .113
Goals/Game - BG: 2.0 OPP: 3.8
Shots/Game - BG: 24.2 OPP: 33.8
Assists - BG: 121 OPP: 247

2010 - 2011 (under Bergeron)

Goals-Shot attempts - BG: 74-934 OPP: 123-1237
Shot pct. - BG: .079 OPP: .099
Goals/Game - BG: 1.8 OPP: 3.0
Shots/Game - BG: 22.8 OPP: 30.2
Assists - BG: 118 OPP: 211

Not a heck of a lot different than under Williams. Goals per game and assists were down slightly for BG although we took more shots, but defensively we improved in every category.

Given all of this, how can you say that Williams was the better choice? Don't get me wrong, I like Willy but I can't see your argument. On top of that, the players really, really like Bergeron and respect him. More so than Willy, btw.

One last thing, I will never judge a coach until I see how he's doing with primarily his own recruits.

Sorry your coach didn't work out. Ours won't have the same ending, thankfully! In my first conversation with Bergeron, I saw his intensity and passion for what he does and in every conversation since then, I have seen that same intensity and drive. I know he is the right coach for this program at this time!

I don't see Bergeron going the Gene Cross route either...I don't think the houswives of BG are nearly as desperate as they are in Toledo
