Re: BGSU Player draft
I suppose that makes sense. The, looking at Globe's defense, who would be the person that would be flexible?
That was a big reason for taking Briggs. He played Defensive End here, and he's been a linebacker in the NFL. To me, that shows his versatility to play both, and he could easily play DE and then drop into coverage or rush depending on the situation.

I don't know, I agree with you that Globe's defense is not real versatile, he'll have a tough time matching up with the WR talent that every team possesses. He got the best of the corners on his team, but I don't think any of his LBs have the athleticism to help a ton in coverage. That's going to be a definite mis-match.footballguy51 wrote:I suppose that makes sense. The, looking at Globe's defense, who would be the person that would be flexible?

I haven't really looked a matchups too much yet...or analyzed the other teams just yet. For now I've been focusing on my team and what I want them to be able to do.
One other thought I have is that I'm the only one to have a true OT on the roster, and I think I have the best 2 OTs during this era. BG has put out a great deal of interior OL talent, but we haven't had many athletic OTs that can match up well against good pass rushers like Briggs, Crossley, and Parks. I like my guys here better than what anyone else will have.

Absolutely, I went player over ability over grouping. I think Terrell White was much better then any DB on the board and Durkin was the same, but I agree that a Safety might have been a good pick in terms of scheming.footballguy51 wrote:I'm a little confused looking at everybody's defensive setup. Hammb is playing a 2-3-2, I'm playing a 3-1-3 (with Briggs able to float back into a LB position easily), and Globe is playing a 3-2-2. It's too soon to see what Kdog will be playing. My thought, though, is that most people have skill position players that will require some defensive pass coverage. Aren't we supposed to be setting our defense up supposedly to play a fictional game, or are we just drafting the best players we can find? Perhaps you have an idea on how your defense will work for you, but I just don't see it.

We will be blitzing every down and you won't know where it is coming from....Durkin is flexible to move back to an SLB type spot I suppose. And Partridge can play both ways.hammb wrote:I don't know, I agree with you that Globe's defense is not real versatile, he'll have a tough time matching up with the WR talent that every team possesses. I like this kinda smack talk, but I'm not real concerned.Globetrotter wrote:We will be blitzing every down and you won't know where it is coming from....Durkin is flexible to move back to an SLB type spot I suppose. I don't think anybody will get pressure on my QB...or I'll certainly be able to protect him (whoever he ends up being) better than any other team. I've got the 2 best OTs (IMO). I've got a solid interior lineman. I've got by FAR our best pass protecting RB...and also probably the best pass catching RB.
I haven't taken a QB yet because I really haven't decided who I want to play just yet. But I really think I can plug any QB into this team and succeed. In my opinion I have the best RB in the draft, the 2 best WRs, the 2 best OTs, and a pretty damn good interior lineman.
Defensively I'm not quite as thrilled (really kept missing out on some defensive players I wanted by a pick or two), but I think I've got some good players nonetheless.

Never played a game for BG, so I don't know if he's eligible for this game. He did attend school (at least Freshman orientation, maybe?) LOL
I'm going with pure raw talent here...I need speed to match up with ya'll...plus he's kind of a legend on here for those that have been around for awhile
Virgil Robinson

Re: BGSU Player draft
I'll be honest, I had to look him up to figure out who that was. He was supposed to be in the recruitment class of 2003? That was before I joined the board. I don't have a problem with you drafting somebody that has no experience and therefore no way of proving that he'd be any good. You may end up with the equipment manager for a corner, which is perfectly fine with me.hammb wrote:Never played a game for BG, so I don't know if he's eligible for this game. I'll wait for approval of your pick before I make mine...of 1 hour, whichever comes first.

Re: BGSU Player draft
He was, at the time, one of the greatest recruiting "gets" we had here. Was garnering OSU interest, but they moved on in a great year for DBs to a few other guys. He still had offers from other Big 10 schools (I think Minny, Indiana, maybe?) but chose BG instead.
Had tons of raw talent, and the HS film of him was very impressive. Had speed to burn, and could have probably contributed here from day 1 if not for those pesky classes getting in his way.
Near as I can tell he never resurfaced anywhere else, so I don't know that he ever played any football higher than HS level, but I still think he's probably more talented than anybody else on the board...

I think he will have had to have atleast played a down. If not the basketball version of this could get all reggie harwelled up.
Re: BGSU Player draft
Alright, alright...that's a good point. We've had a lot of these kids that came in and never played hoops, so I can see what you're getting at.Globetrotter wrote:I think he will have had to have atleast played a down. If not the basketball version of this could get all reggie harwelled up.
But...he was Virgil FREAKING Robinson! LMAO...
I just remember what a HUGE deal he was on this board back in the day...
I'll take Kenny Lewis then.
Boy...the corner talent really dropped off after Jordan...I knew I should have taken him...

Re: BGSU Player draft
If you go back and look at rivals for the mid/early 2000's almost every #1 recruit we went after did not end up panning out here.
Re: BGSU Player draft
Trust me I don't need to go back and look. I remember getting all excited about them and nothing coming of it.Globetrotter wrote:If you go back and look at rivals for the mid/early 2000's almost every #1 recruit we went after did not end up panning out here.
So glad to see that Calhoun looks like he will become the exception to that.

Re: BGSU Player draft
I had a rather long talk with Brandon once..IIRC, Robinson had a 1.0 or lower GPA in his time here. I'm too lazy to look...anybody take Monty Cooley or TJ Carswell yet? Two of my favorites along with Chad Long...
