Agreed. There is a reason teams try to do this process like a band-aid...either right up front, or when the NCAA finally gets around to it. Every baby step like this is another admission of guilt, and only serves to lead people to believe the rabbit hole goes deeper. Right now, there is no reason to believe that they would impose more than 50% of what they actually deserve. I just hope the NCAA sees it the same way.

If you notice, they are now declaring that Tressell has retired, not resigned. As such, they are waiving the $250,000 fine they levied against him. He is also going to cooperate in the NCAA investigations and is taking full responsibility of everything that happened at OSU. Anybody else see this waiver of the fine as a payoff for him to take responsibility for everything? They're paying him off and hoping that the NCAA will say it was all Tressell and spare the school. That's just another example of Ohio State believing they are special and too important to be punished.

It's another weak attempt to appease the NCAA, but a trend with them of being way to late. In reality they didn't do anything because the 2010 season was going to be vacated anyway.

That's how I see it...trying to tell the NCAA "See? We punished ourselves!". Ain't gonna go down that way. I hope the NCAA hammers them into the next decade.

I just wish that osu fans had learned their lesson, but they haven't learned anything.

Just a prediction: Tressel will go before the NCAA, take complete credit for all of osu's wrongdoing, get osu off with a slap on the wrist, and become a martyr for buckeye boneheads everywhere. They'll spend the next 20 years bragging about how such a great guy took the fall for those kids even though he didn't deserve the blame.

Once again, just a prediction, but if osu fans are anything...

My sister heard someone on ESPN say that OSU's self imposed penalties were like a teenager who's going to be punished offering to go to his room so he can watch TV all day.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

No one should be shocked by these "self-imposed" penalties being weak, it happens everytime a program gets in trouble, they issue these weak self-imposed penalties hoping to appease the NCAA, but they never do. Hell it basically just makes the NCAA's job easier, schools always put themselves on probation and vacate games when they self-impose, allowing the NCAA to focus on how many scholarships to take away and how many years to ban them from postseason play

It also has a lot to do with schools not wanting to over-punish themselves. Why take away 5 scholarships if the NCAA would have only taken away 2? So, you lowball what you think will happen just so you don't accidentally give yourself the death penalty.
