I totally agree. If any of the rumor mills are accurate, where in the name of Doyt Perry is GC on this?! We should be a leader in these discussions, setting the tone for next steps and conference structure. This a critical challenge for our Program and GC better take care of business here. We get beat out by the likes of Western Michigan? No frickin' way this happens with our support network and history unless we have incompetent leadership. Bulls make money, Bears make money, and Pigs get slaughtered.Drago wrote:One thing is for sure, when in a crisis like this, there is no one better to be leading your department than GC....I'm sure he'll have us in the worst possible situation in no time. We can still play our old CCHA teams (if we/they all leave) in a non-conf schedule cutting the cost of travel, if that is the ultimate factor. We have a strong coach and what looks like a strong group of recruits. Even if we change to a lower tier conf we can play a competitive schedule, continue to rebuild, and create a new prideful history.
The world is not ending for us. We will find a conf, I am sure the staff associated with Falcon hockey havent been sitting on their hands for the last few months; something will probably be announced from our end soon, to think otherwise...well...then you probably went to Toledo.
As always go Falcon Hockey, for the next season, and for the next 50 seasons!
Go BG!
You must be on GCs staff. I bleed BG Hockey and if these realignments are true, where UNO and Colorado College (or whatever their name is) are somehow viewed as more desirable than BG, it may be too late for us. This is what years of neglect and too little too late short term investments in our once glorious program get you. Now I know how Rome felt when the barbarians breached the walls to the city.

One sport schools like Colorado College and UNO have advantages over folks like us in sone ways. I would guess our staff is- and has been- in communication with a number of folks in regard to the realignment etc. CCHA has a couple years to run. One concept might be that we make improvements on the ice etc and become part of that new league. Other scenarios abound- all of which will have us playing hockey, winning in hockey (Bergeron) and having an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA tourney.

We are in a hurry because there would be a recruiting lag if we had no direction in prep for 2013.falconfan1 wrote:One sport schools like Colorado College and UNO have advantages over folks like us in sone ways. BG has two years to show improvement on the ice and I think it will under Coach Bergeron. The fact that some how Western Michigan is even mentioned in the "Super League" tells me it's not going to be a super league at all. They have lost their coach and do not even remotely come close to the tradition and history BG has in hockey. Western had one good year last year and the guy responsible for that is gone. If Miami had any brains or even a memory, they would have pushed for BG to be in the league as it is much closer to BG than Western and we have a former Miami coach and player still coaching at BG. It seems these discussions that included Western probably were held before Blashil was offered a job with the Red Wings out of the blue.

What will we do next?
http://www.sent-trib.com/bgsu-sports/fa ... s-07-13-11
Decisions are being made NOW for whats to come in the future, we have already made our bed in terms of how conferences our going to judge us. The next two years is not going to determine anything because these decisions are made several years in advance. Even a bigger problem is that the league or teams we team up with to form a league will not be the big-name attraction to the "average" fan, such as a michigan, michigan state, notre dame, or miami. In addition, those teams were close enough their loyal fans would come to our games as would our fans to their games. With a new conference travel will be a strain on all teams with that directly affecting attendance. The falcons will be unable to attract the average fan UNLESS we put a winning product on the ice. Twenty years of sub standard hockey for BGSU expectations can't be made up in two years.BG has two years to show improvement on the ice and I think it will under Coach Bergeron.

However this shakes out, I think it's almost a certainty that we wind up in a conference that is a notch below the current CCHA...I know that there's nothing that can be done about it thanks to the Big 10...but it's still sad...very, very sad

Most of you know my views of hockey and the money spent on it, while I do appreciate the tradition and championships that the program has brought to BGSU.
BUT, as can be seen by the dissection of the CCHA and NO ONE talking to BG and inviting us to join a new conference, it should speak volumes about how the program is currently regarded in the rest of the college hockey community. You know what I think should be done. That's just my opinion, don't shoot me for it.

But Warthog.....Jason Knavel just greeted that BGSU hockey will THRIVE!!!! Trust him....lol. I am starting to agree that dumping money into a program that continues to be terrible really makes no sense. I think if we decide to move to Atlantic Hockey, it would be a better move for our athletics programs as a whole. That would save us about 10 scholarships (i think Atlantic hockey teams can only spend about nine scholarships). Plus we are a complete non factor in the national scene. At least in Atlantic Hockey we could compete in our league games. Thank GC for screwing this all up 2 years ago. People in the hockey community look at our program as a joke. This is going to end up with us on the outside looking in.

The program hasn't had a winning season since Clinton was President. I think things were a mess well before GC got here...

BG administration has ignored hockey since Olscamp left. It's taken us YEARS to get this low.
Next week the hockey alums are in town. That should be fun.......
