Re: How would a "Super League" Affect BGSU
Football or basketball will NEVER be dropped. Nor should they!!
And hockey WILL NOT be dropped either. No Way, Nada, Not Going To Happen, NOT EVER.
Having spent time listening to the coaches talk and then listening to current players talk about the coaching staff that we have now, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that we WILL be heading back to the top to stay. And yeah, yeah, I know I've been wearin' those orange glasses before, but THIS group of coaches is different than anything we've had here in a LONG, LONG time. I haven't seen that kind of passion before....EVER!! I truly believe that Bergeron, Schutte, and Eigner are going to get it done here. And sooner, rather than later.
Regarding the conference changes, I have no idea what will happen, but I do believe we'll end up ok in the end. It might not be what each of us would choose, but we will still have program. We will be playing, and hopefully for championships every year.

I like ya Tech, we've chatted many times. But, it's a lot closer than you think now. Miami has 9 trips, 2 frozens and yes, no banner. BG won a heartbreaker (for UMD) and Miami lost a heartbreaker. By my count, BG has 9 trips, 2 frozens and the banner. All according to our friend, the internet. I knew Miami's count by heart, but not BG's.Tech83 wrote:So we have BG, LSSU, and Ferris. Between those three schools - 4 National Titles, 6 Frozen Four Appearances, 20 NCAA Tourney Appearances.
Then you have Miami - 6 NCAA trips - 2 frozens - No banner - can't beat any team with the word Boston in its name. Seems like a real "Super" league to me.
If I were in a position of power, I'd want BG in the same league, wherever, whenever. Most fans on MHT think the same thing. I wish this all could have been solved by making Penn St the 12th CCHA team, but that was a pipe dream. The landscape has and is still changing, whether college hockey fans want it to or not. Was it a tough, and soon-to-be expensive, decision to join this new league? Yeah. But, unlike both of our football and basketball programs, Miami Hockey was in a position to choose its destiny. And that choice was to join a league that I hope keeps them as viable as they are right now and will hopefully bring that banner.

Fanatic- excellent post. You are right on target. We are committed to hockey. I DON"T KNOW HOW MANY times Christopher, Bergeron, President et al have to say it. We are "in"!
We are raising money and spending money. And again I say, buy tickets- watch us play. Cheer. Sometimes we'll lose 4-1; sometimes we'll win 3-2. Go to the arena when able.
This hockey staff is by far the best i have been around. By far. And Jerry York was good. It will take us years to get back. Everyone knows that. We will get there. Whatever league we are in will allow us to be one of 58 teams playing for a national title. 58 TOTAL teams. We will be OK. Sure I wish we had all the answers right now. But trust me, guys like Ryan Carpenter are coming here to compete hard, win, get to tourneys, graduate and have a chance at pro hockey.
That is why he is here. Period.
And we will play good basketball and football over the years. We'll win some in those sports and gee whiz we played in a nationally televised bowl in 2009. Is that ancient history? And lost when a corner lost a pass in the lights. We had a great FB 2009 considering. And I believe we will have a great 2012. And continue to build in 2011. Just like we are building in hockey. And the Stroh Center? Might help us get some basketball players of both genders. Might just do that.
Sky is not falling. It is just not. Roll along BG hockey.
Go Falcons!

Subzero please GO back to Toledo. I am sure they have chat rooms for your school too somewhere online.
For those saying get rid of Hockey...I would like to question where you went to school.
BGSU Hockey is the one sport at our school with any sort of tradition and history. The fact that we were able to win a national championship in this sport should demonstrate the potential that still exists for us. Schools like Nebraska Omaha, Minesota Deluth, North Dakota, and Miami of Ohio are some of the better programs in all of college hockey and guess what...these schools arent that much different from BG. So this isn't the end of the road by any means, its just something new and different for our hockey team. Hopefully they will announce soon where we will be.
Honestly, if we want to get rid of something...why do we have a gymnastics team? what is that doing for us? Let's knock down Anderson and build something new in its place. Hockey, Football, and women's basketball are the only sports that BG has a chance at being competitive in at a national level; because well we have proven that we can be, at times.
Go BG Hockey!

Miami is currently a top program. BG is coming back.
Miami did what it had to do.
I would have preferred to see the CCHA and WCHA combine into a single - two division league. That would have been a Super League. LSSU has three banners..... how do you leave them behind. BGSU is clearly headed in the right direction (investments in the program and facilities) and has a hockey alumni to compete with any other program (2 Hobeys, over 35 NHLers, Gold medal Olympians, NHL HOFer's, Stanley Cup winners)..... its REALLY short-sighted.

I went to BGSU, two degrees, live in BG, never attended a hockey in my life. There is no requirement to be a hockey fan to attend BGSU.BGHockeyisRtradition wrote:For those saying get rid of Hockey...I would like to question where you went to school.![]()
You're kidding right? Hockey - 7 league, 5 CCHA tournament champions; Football - 13 league/division champs; Men's Basketball - 9 league/division champs; Women's BB - 12 league/division champs, 10 tournament champs, Baseball - 9 league champs.BGHockeyisRtradition wrote:BGSU Hockey is the one sport at our school with any sort of tradition and history.
That was 25+ years ago. The landscape of college hockey has changed dramatically. Other schools have stepped up and made investments in their programs to take them to the next level. BG never did that and thus has been left in the rubble.BGHockeyisRtradition wrote:The fact that we were able to win a national championship in this sport should demonstrate the potential that still exists for us.
Yes they are, except for Miami. Those other schools do not play Div I NCAA athletics in other sports. They are able to funnel more resources into hockey as it is thier one, featured sport. BG is only one of like 15 schools that play Div I football, basketball and hockey. Something has got to give. Given our financial resources, we just cannot compete at a high level in all these sports.BGHockeyisRtradition wrote:Schools like Nebraska Omaha, Minesota Deluth, North Dakota, and Miami of Ohio are some of the better programs in all of college hockey and guess what...these schools arent that much different from BG.
Ever hear of Title IX? We have women's gymanstics, women's swimming, women's tennis and women's track and field (but no corresponding mens team) for this one reason.BGHockeyisRtradition wrote:Honestly, if we want to get rid of something...why do we have a gymnastics team? what is that doing for us?

And if it pleases the court, I have also received 2 degrees from BGSU, I'm currently an employee at BGSU, and although I have attended some hockey games at BG, I was just stating the facts that cutting football would do more damage to BG athletics than cutting hockey.

He is already talking about getting to the tailgates. I told him to think about what he could contribute (food wise) when he goes.... some chips, salsa, cookies. We'll be their for parents weekend. Same age..... of course they are friends on Facebook.
But then again.... every time Nicholas goes on to BGSU's Class of 2015 FB page, he gets about 20 new friend requests from girls.

Football won a national title too...the 1959 small college title. Given that there were maybe 50 or so schools playing hockey in 1984, I think that's at least as...if not more... relevant than the hockey title.
I'm in favor of keeping hockey. I'm waaay more into college to football than hockey, but I recofnize the importance of hockey in our history. It's just that I'm pessimistic about the future of the CCHA and the likelihood of our finding a conference that will make sense geographically and competitively
