Re: How would a "Super League" Affect BGSU
Earlier I posted WMU pays it football and hockey coach the same salary. They are actually paying the hockey coach more. 300,000>275,000.
New information has been posted and the above statement is incorrect.
WMU salaries
Hockey: $300,000
Basketball: 310,000 +incentives
Football: 375,000

Re: How would a "Super League" Affect BGSU
Given what is known and speculated (WMU, ND, and Alaska flee), it makes sense for the CCHA to absorb the four Atlantic schools and UAH. I'm telling myself that I should be more interested in wins against stiff competition rather than wins against lesser competition, but I look forward to wins however they come.
Things change. Teams leave and enter conferences. Teams start and fold. Leagues form an dissolve (not as often as teams). Check out this timeine: http://www.uscho.com/faq/conference-timeline/

Re: How would a "Super League" Affect BGSU
I think this is a fit for all the leftover CCHA schools except us. Travel would be a major issue with our closest opponent being 4 hours away. The WCHA has never been shy about leaving out programs that don't fit their plans. I don't see them inviting us unless it is mandatory all the teams are included.
Re: How would a "Super League" Affect BGSU
There is no way the CCHA would turn their backs on BG as a founding member of the conference and I would bet that any decisions the conference would make regarding almagamation would be done with ALL members included. However, I could see the merger happening without BG as long as it's BG following ND to whatever conference they choose. It's already been stated numurous times the program is not folding so they'll find a way to make it happen. I hope.
Re: How would a "Super League" Affect BGSU
Interesting journal here. I've been abroad for a month and missed all of these developments. My thoughts, for what they're worth.
1. Everyone has their shorts in a knot over conference realignment. Relax. It's sort of like a stock market correction. There will be nail biting and speculation, but it will shake out and everyone will find a seat at the table. I'm glad that BG (along with ND) is taking time and getting a good look at the options. Make the right decision now, not one that is regrettable or has to be done over in a few years.
2. I was on campus when hockey was still a club sport, so have witnessed all of the glory and the pain over the years. At one time kids would begin lining up outside the arena in freezing weather hours before the doors opened to get the "window" seats and be a part of the Bleacher Creatures, chant all of the chants and throw all of the taunts. In other words, the place rocked and the arena was the coolest place on campus. It was just plain FUN, and the opponent really didn't matter (OK, you had to give your first-born for a BG-OSU ticket). We have to build that energy back into the arena, and winning will do that regardless of opponent. The casual hockey fan and most students really don't know or care about Pair-wise, etc. They want excitement and a legitimate chance to win the game, even if they don't have a clue as to what RIT stands for.
3. New league? All leagues have to begin somewhere, just like the CCHA did back in the 70's. I'd rather see BG look east than west. There are several things that the East can offer ... more population, more exposure and shorter travel. Certainly, the WCHA and new NCHC has some great programs, but they are in high travel, low population regions that won't help exposure or recruiting. I can see the CCHA adding AHA schools and building itself back up to national prominence. A Mich, OH, Penn, NY league is doable. Programs will have the opportunity to grow and mature. Second-tier; maybe, at least for awhile. But there are always breakout teams from these conferences that might not have made the tourney from stronger conferences. I remember the CCHA second-tier years, but a decade later the conference was a legitimate annual contender. The only thing that can safely be said about conference alignments is that they are fluid and will probably again be changing again down the road. That's always been the case. Besides, regardless of conference we'll still get our shots at OSU, UM, MSU and take extra pleasure in knocking off the "big boy$".
4. I think the biggest lesson we've learned is to keep vigilant. I've witnessed the program grow into a national powerhouse and then decline to the verge of elimination. Maybe I and others should have asked more hard questions sooner. Maybe the handwriting was on the wall years ago and but we just chose to ignore it. Frankly, the 1984 championship was the highlight of my sporting life, but it may have done a lot of damage too. The focus has seemed to be backward instead of forward ever since. Maybe we should have asked why we never saw certain administrators at hockey games. Maybe I should have attended more Falcon Club events and tried to pressure AD's for answers to questions that seem obvious now. Maybe we should have asked why blocks in the arena wall were crumbling, why the lighting was sub-par and why the building sweat. Anyway, I hope we can all grow from this, keep a close monitor on the program we know and love, and bring it back to success in whatever form the future holds.
In any event, I'm looking forward to October with great anticipation. Let's drop the puck!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Figured this would happen sooner or later.

I'd rule out the all the CCHA teams combining with the WCHA just by reading the Commish of the WCHA's comments. We don't have to worry about an invite anyway...asking to join Atlantic Hockey may be our only option when its all said and done.

Looks like the CCHA's attempt to strong arm ND into a decision didn't work. The wait continues...

The ultimate drop due date is the 30th of September. That is when all remaining schools must state their future intentions. The more ND waits, the less likely they are to join the new "Wonder Conference" [sic].

Sounds like WCHA is meeting with CCHA again next week....This is our only chance...none of the other options are really there. I still don't see the WCHA accepting us simply because of location. BG and Ferris State look like the two teams in panic mode.

falcon24 love that picture. Save Ferris indeed. Drago, relax. All is well. We have an arena, we have a coach and staff, we have 10 new players, we have upgrades, we have commitment, we have tradition, we have founder member status in one of the leagues, we are one of 58 teams playing the sport in the United States, we are perfectly positioned to be an absolute key nonleague opponent with Big Ten Hockey and we are in near constant contact with the various groups/options. WCHA schools like BG and know we are in for the long haul and carry the Detroit and SW Ont market along. Atlantic boys need to figure out if they want to go bigger. Or maybe it is just two of them. ND will actually decide to do something. Something will happen.
Yep maybe it will be us, ND and Ala-Huntsville as independents.
Or maybe we will be part of the WCHACCHAAHESUPER Conference.
Probably the latter.
My prediction- we will drop the puck in 2013 (or 2014 whatever it is) in a better position to be in the NCAA tournament because we will have a better team in a better reestablished program in a better arena in a league where we can win.
Go Falcons!
