I'm trying to care about this...but I can't.

Honestly in the font we use, it would be difficult to read the names. On a slightly off topic subject the tapered stripe on the helmet is brutal. After seeing the commercial it really confirms it for me. Who comes up with these ideas? People talk about tradition...our department just ruins more and more of it every year.

Tradition? It's a stripe on the helmet....it's not like they're making Freddie Falcon wear a black jersey or making people throw tootsie pops instead of tootsie rolls...

I think that is what bothers me most... good or bad, let's stick with something for more than 2-3 years. It's difficult for an outsider to recognize us if we change our look every other season.

I vaguely remember someone mention we order new uniforms every 2 years, but that doesn't mean they have to change each time.

The uniforms/helmets should remain standard. Pick a design a stick with it. The constant search for the perfect uniform or what pop culture dictates is ridiculous. Penn State, ND and USC are among the most iconic teams in football, and don't have names on the jerseys. They also have instantly recognizable uniforms. I hate our constant uniform changes!!!!!

Even traditional schools change uniforms every now and then. Nike with their uni's for special games are one example. BG changing uniforms may also have to do with them changing apperal manufactures.

Every player I ever coached dreamed of playing D1 ball and to see their name on the jersey. Having a players name on the back doesn't deminish the " play as a team" spirit.

It is hard to establish a consistant image when a school continues to make changes for no apparent reasons. Hard to build a marketable image when you, as a school, struggle to identify what you are trying to portray.

Frustrating , to say the least.
This statement got me thinking...

What other DI school can say they've worn 5 different jersey styles and 4 different helmet designs in 8 years... ok other than Oregon.

Is there any reason why we would change it so often. I mean I understand when the new logos came out there would be some changes but 4 different helmets and 5 different jerseys in 8 years (OK the brown jersey was a throwback but I think we wore it for all home games in 06)

As much as I hate the inconsistency I really hope this new jersey doesn't stick around, the helmet I kinda like.
I too prefer player names on the back. But I am still so happy we got rid of the old Falcon logo. That branding was a complete disaster. I am still trying to evaluate the new helmet logo. It has a more robust appearance than the interlocking BG but thats because the BG graphic was not designed correctly. The key for helmet logos is how they appear on TV and watching from the stands. If you have a good design that is clear and cool looking, there is no better marketing tool for a University (see Texas Longhorn logo, Duke Bluedevil logo, etc)

Wrong on the level of "Intelligent Design" wrong. Take a lesson in marketing: simple designs work the best and have timelessness as well as immediate brand recognition.

Look to the Dallas cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Montreal Canadians, Michigan Wolfereens [or whatever], and the Detroit Redwings.

Commercial endeavors: Nike, Chevrolet, ATT, Disney, Volkswagen, General Motors, and Playboy.

And yes, I'm putting the old logo EASILY on plane with all of the above. I like the peakaboo out of all of the logos, but I still prefer the older logo because it met every definition of the ideal logo.

Digression over. Now back to the meaningless names on the back of jerseys.

This.

And if anybody questions the superiority of the original logo look what we have gone through since we got rid of it. They can't decide which of the logos they like. Are we the falcon head, are we the peek-a-boo, are we the interlocking BG.... Before it was simple...that one distinct, SIMPLE, logo.

Whatever...I'll probably never get over that change...

I tend to disagree with this part, to an extent. While we may have had one L-T logo, each sport, department, organization, etc seemed to use it differently with different fonts, colors, styles, whatever of the old logo and representations of 'BG', 'BGSU', 'Bowling Green'. While there may now be some mix of the peek-a-boo, interlocked BG, and just the spaceghost falcon, at least those three are consistent across ALL teams as well as fonts, nameplates, etc.

And I like the names on the back of the jerseys. For us die-hards, we can figure who each guy is fairly quickly. But for casual fans, I think it makes it easier for them to identify witht the team if they know players names, not just numbers.
