I too prefer player names on the back. But I am still so happy we got rid of the old Falcon logo. That branding was a complete disaster.
At the time, I didn't have a problem with dumping the old logo...however, the ongoing struggle to come up with a single, identifiable mark has me thinking it was a mistake. Yes, we needed to unify the mark within the department...I think there was probably a bit too much autonomy here from team to team on a lot of fronts in the past ...but we could have done that with the good ol' non cartoony L7 logo (I refuse to call it LT...LT is a crackhead wh sexes up 16 year-old prostitutes)
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

That is my thinking exactly. If they had issues with certain parts of the department not using the logo, address that. There was no need to create a new logo.
How much longer do we have to wait for the old logo to become "retro" so we can buy new stuff with that on there? I really don't like any of the new logos nearly as well.

I tend to disagree with this part, to an extent. While we may have had one L-T logo, each sport, department, organization, etc seemed to use it differently with different fonts, colors, styles, whatever of the old logo and representations of 'BG', 'BGSU', 'Bowling Green'. While there may now be some mix of the peek-a-boo, interlocked BG, and just the spaceghost falcon, at least those three are consistent across ALL teams as well as fonts, nameplates, etc.
Agreed that a branding plan was necessary but that does not have to come at the expense of a logo redesign.
What is done is done and now the athletic department continues to frantically try on dresses until it likes what it sees in the mirror.....which is not a good business practice and actually dilutes your brand instead of strengthens it.

Well, I hate to rain on the Townie parade but no one outside of the alum ranks could ever tell what the old logo was supposed to represent. I must have asked 100 people over a 5 year span of time in casual conversation about the abstract logo and not one really understood the design even after explaining it to them. The new logo is definitely the right move.

That's the whole point...it means something to us.

And thats wonderful. But its not just about us. We also need to engage the 60 million rabid college football and basketball fans around the country. I have relocated to several markets outside of Ohio in my career and you always want your degree to carry as much weight and exposure as possible during those travels. College sports is a key vehicle in making that happen. And our logo is part of that marketing equation. When you are sitting in a Dallas sports bar and BG is on a national ESPN game, the last thing you want to hear from the resident A&M guy is "whats that swirley outline on y'alls lid?"

Since when does a logo have to "be" something to represent something? You want to tell me that michigan's helmet design represents something?
Wife is from Dallas and I had an Aggie and UT person ask several years ago why we changed our mascot to "Space Ghost" (direct and embarrassing quote.) The old logo was a very good logo and myself along with countless others knew what the logo was at first glance.

Got to agree with this. I would expound but I think everybody knows where I stand with regard to the old logo.

I would agree the new logo does not work with just the Falcon head as a stand alone
