Falcons downed by Western Michigan

Post by It's the Journey... »

How many times will we let opportunity slip between our fingers? We, as a team, as not learned how to win the "BIG" game in the conference. And until we do that we will continue to be on the outside looking in when March rolls around. Final score, BGSU 61 - WMU 70.

Sounds like the kids played their hearts out. Hoping Fitch is ok. We will be there in March. Our team has heart. They believe and the fans need to believe in them. We lose one MAC game and already the door is being closed on March. I disagree. JMHO

BG went cold down the stretch and WMU stepped up their game. Very physical team in WMU.

Reimold only had 3 shots from beyond the arc.

BG was only 3 of 16 from beyond the arc. Ouch.

Time to get after Ball State.

Couldn't agree more....one loss doesn't kill the season. Hell this WMU blasted Kent the other night, leading by 29 at one point. WMU is one hell of a team...but the Falcons are for real. Can't wait to get to AA for that team up north.

Bounce back and beat Ball State!!!

We are an undersized, undermanned team that wasn't expected to do squat this season. I wouldn't chalk this up to loss like football at NIU- we didn't lose a "big game" we needed to win today, we simply lost to a better basketball team.

I'm not shutting the door on March. All I am saying is we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. A big game like this and we just seemed to be out of sync. But, as pointed out, there is lots of basketball to be played. So, BEAT BALL STATE!!!!

WMU just made key shots when they had to. Give our guys credit, they fought the whole way. Everytime we made a run and tied the game, WMU made their own run and stayed ahead. But our boys never let the game get away from them. Like it was said in an earlier post, Western has a heck of a team, we can't take anything away from our boys here. Sure they lost, but one loss doesn't make a season. Here's to knowing that the boys will bounce back and come out strong the rest of the season. A tough loss is hard to take, but let's keep it in perspective.

We definately had our chances early in the game, but missed a lot of open shots. Those definately can play a part late in the game. I liked how we stayed in the whole game, good effort by all , but just got beat by a better team, and maybe a few bad calls by the refs. I like this team though.

I was SO proud of the way our team played. Sure, we did miss a lot of shots today, but we fought back.
Germain is ok...just cramped up. I was so worried! I think we can learn from this loss and then take it when we head to Kalamazoo.

Western is a superior team.

BG didn't shoot well or rebound well because of WMU.

Every time BG picked up its game, WMU picked up its game. They have some stud players.

BG played hard but doesn't quite have the stuff to compete with the Broncos.

Glad to see no one is blaming the Zebras, who didn't exactly bring their "A" game today at either end of the floor.

I won't blame the zebras, but I will say they were pathetic, atrocious and downright a poor excuse for Division I basketball officials. WMU is a superior team. However, I do not think they are so good that they do not committ more than one foul in the first 10 minutes of the second half. What is sad, is that the refs saw this and immediately called three fouls on WMU in a span of about 45 seconds. Sad.

And what was the deal with having to look at the replay to see who had posssession after the WMU shot clock violation in the second half? First, if it was a violation give BG the ball. Second, if it wasn't, BG got the rebound.

The refs were a bunch of tools. Yes, WMU is a better team and deserved to win today. But, BG shouldn't have to compete in a completely separate game against the officials at the same time.

Just got home. We just got beat today by a team that's better--very good, very tough. What do they have, half of the road wins in the conference this year? They are tough--how many times did we get a big hoop, and they come down and hit a big one right back? They can put a big guy on our PG's and really cramp our attack.

Our challenge is to get that good by March.

Coach said on post-game Fitch was just cramping, not his knee.

No, the refs didn't bring their A game, but we got beat today. The ref's biggest sin was losing control of the basketball game for a few minutes. That was inexcusable. Their indecision on that stupid shot clock thing was a joke, when the one ref had it right, and the flamboyant one insisted on arguing with him. You could see them arguing when they watched the replay.

But, again, credit to the Broncos. That's a very solid basketball team that is very tough to beat, and we still need to improve, as well as we have played.

Western must spend 20 hours a week in the weight room during the season and 40 hours a week in there during the offseason. Those guys were huge and I thought their strength was the difference in the game. They were extremely aggressive and, in general, the more aggressive team gets the calls from the stripes. I don't think the officiating had any impact on the outcome of the game, but they certainly could have done a better job with the situation at halftime. They should have been in the middle of everything right after Wright got knocked down. I couldn't see it from where I was, but I'm assuming it was pretty ugly over near the tunnel.

Josh had a rare off game shooting (still managed 18 pts) and Reimold didn't get his normal shots, but I thought the role players were beaten by Western's role players. "Moon" Robinson really stepped up and played well, but Floyd and Soler didn't play as well as they have recently. Steven Wright was off from the beginning and I think their strength had a lot to do with it. He got pushed around quite a bit and never really got going.

Oh well, this team still has a lot of potential and they try so hard. I certainly won't give up on them.
