N. Dakota ready to drop Fighting Sioux

Kind of surprised this hasn't happened before now. How long ago was it that Eastern and Miami changed their nicknames?
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Didn't they have some deep-pocket guy who funded their hockey arena who said "No $" if they changed the name? I remember something aobut that several years ago.

For some people a synonym for PC is "nice". If it truly is offensive to a tribe then why have it? On the other hand if the Sioux were OK with it then let it ride. I know the guy who put up the bucks for the hockey rink put Fighting Sioux all over in the floor, on walls anywhere he could work it in that it would be nearly impossible to remove so there will be remnants no matter what.

For some. For others, PC is one reason this country is in the mess its in.

Seems like CMU and the Chippewa tribe don't have this problem. The tribe is perfectly fine with it.

For yet others, "PC" is one reason we aren't in even worse shape but we're probably treading on dangerous "Free For Many but Not Really All That Free" ground here! :-D

Yeah, I know him- he did the same thing to my house- Fighting Sioux plaques all over the place-you didn't see them when you were here? I came home one day and the lawn was mowed into the Fighting Sioux logo...I gotta do something about him. ANd its not hockey news-it's ARENA news. I follow about any game played on solid ground and any sport in the water but ya gotta make up your mind- playing on top of a thin layer of water on top of solid water, well, that's just too many surfaces to deal with.

It's not that the Sioux Tribes in the area don't support the name. It is against their bi-laws to vote on things like this. The one Tribe voted for it and the other Tribe abstained from voting so it shows as "against."
