Observations from a Bronco Fan

Post by bucNbronco11 »

With such a hostile gym atmosphere and a quality team, it's ashame that your students show little or no support. I would assume that there were probably 3-500 students at the game and there were instances when a pin drop could be heard. For those of you who really enjoy this team you should make a point to support them on every possession, because that type of crowd will WIN you these games.

Almanson has the purest touch I've seen in a mac big-man, similar to Mike Williams last year. The difference between the two has to be Almanson's agility level (in reference to the three drives where he should have made those dunks), which is much higher than Mike Williams. The only answer we had for that was to trap him on the outside and let Reitz play physically.

Your parents, and supporters who sat behind us in the balcony were very hospitable. They were knowledgeable fans and we enjoyed sitting next to them.

I would encourage all of you to come to the Bowling Green/WMU game at University Arena on the second of March. Good luck the rest of the year.

Unfortunately, there is no way that I can make the trip to K-zoo in early March. We went to the game 2 years ago and watched Western beat us by 20 or so. I was very impressed by the arena and your fans.

Josh didn't have his best game today. Usually he is more effective from 3-point range, but he was short for most of the game and then was long on his last couple. His shot goes up really soft and with very forgiving rims at Anderson Arena, he shoots a very high percentage.

As for our students -- during the Anthony Stacey and Keith McLeod-led years, Anderson Arena was the best. Students got to several games an hour and a half before the games and waited outside for the doors to open. Now, there are only 75 students in the seats with 15 minutes before tip-off. I'm sure there were games during those years that BG won simply because of the energy in Anderson Arena.

I've got a lot of respect for Western's basketball team. I think it's pretty obvious that they are the class of the MAC right now. We just need to figure out a way to beat you guys one time when it will actually matter -- in Cleveland, in March.

Maybe we should have sent the football team out...I mean, we scored 49 points in one half.

Seriously, congrats WMU on the win...you guys have an excellent, physical team.

I know what ya mean Mike....we feel the same about Omar Jacobs!

Reed is quite the talker, but he backs it up with his play.

I wasn't extremely happy with Reed's cockiness coming out of the locker room at half time, but at the same time, all of us love his charasmatic personality. I think he wants to be a media star and it shows. We recieved many compliments from your fans, so thank you unbehalf of us all for treating us with class.

In that way he reminds me A LOT of Anthony Stacy. He used to taunt the fans away from home, too, but he would always find a way to shut them up.

Honestly, I was not too impressed with Ben Reed's play. I really wasn't impressed with anyone's individual play today for that matter. That was the junkiest game I've seen in a while (and mind you, I don't watch a whole lot of b-ball).

As a fan of college athletics in general, though, what did strike me was how well Ben Reed represented what a college athlete is not supposed to be. He may be more talented than he showed today, but college athletics is not about waving your finger at opposing fans after you were just in the middle of a fight. That is not what college athletics has ever been about, and I hope to God it never does become about that. If his game doesn't speak well enough for him, maybe he's trying to cover something up. I expect this kind of stuff out of Toledo and Kent, but apparently success has gotten to the heads of WMU, too, which is unfortunate.

Besides that, congrats on the win. Your guys play hard, if not clean.

If he is covering something up I'd like to know what it is. I'm not sure what you are implying by saying that.

If success has gotten to WMU's head who else showed it? Hawkins? the king of class Levi? all he does is shoot

I think your a little sour about having someone like Ben talk and back it up.

I'm still puzzled by this Ay Ziggy Zoomba stuff, as well as the hoe down dancing I saw taking place to it. I've made up words too but I haven't made a song out of them. Tradition is tradition and at least you've got something you enjoy

I beg to differ, sir. I am not sour at all. I knew today was going to be tough, and we lost. We'll move on and we'll see you in March.

I didn't mean to imply that Reed was covering anything up. I was simply trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. The only other option there is that deep down, he's a jerk. I don't like saying that about anybody (unless they go to Toledo), but when you act like Reed did today, there are only two possible reasons.

And, as far as my comment about success getting to WMU's head, most coaches would coach that kind of behavior out of their student-athletes. Apparently, your coach doesn't mind, which is too bad for the Bronco's image.

I really am not bitter, I assure you. When I see this type of behavior, though, I do tend to ask myself "How would I feel if a Falcon player was acting like that?" Answer is: completely embarassed.
