Myabe, just maybe, the one thing you guys learned was that an offense can carry you so far but to keep winning you have to have a defense.
As of right now we are 3rd in the MAC in scoring defense, 3rd in Opponent Field-Goal Shooting, and 2nd in Opponent 3-Pointers Per Game.

We have a pretty good defense better than we thought we would have. D has always been a problem because we always play man to man never zone and I think you need a good mix of both. However this year we have picked up the D. As for the winning, I don't really care about losing that's fine I just don't like the game getting out of hand ex. the fight. You are right about the CCHA refs, Shegos Hall and that one that started with a P. I think MAC basketball refs are getting just as bad though things need to change.

How did you listen to the game on the internet and drive at the same time? :?

John -- I have to totally disagree with you about the defense comment. Our defense has allowed only 43% shooting this year and only 31% from 3-point range. BG is only giving up 65 points per game. Western has a very good team on both ends of the floor and our offense did not perform as well yesterday due to Western's size, strength, and defensive ability. Reimold had virtually no open looks and Almanson missed some of his open looks. I thought our defensive effort was very good yesterday. Western shot a pretty good percentage overall, but they didn't kill us with the 3-pointer. There were several shots that Western hit that our defense could not have done anything about. For instance, Ben Reed threw up an 18-footer with the shot clock running out with Fitch all over him. It went about 16 feet in the air and went through the hoop without drawing iron. Nothing Fitch could have done, just a great shot by a really good player (who needs to learn how to shutup and play :) ).

BG can only get better.

That ref you are thinking is Piotrowski. Never have him in the playoffs when you are playing OSU. He will screw you over everytime. :x

I have an inverter (need a 1750 watt inverter, I have a puny 500 watt) plugged in my PC speakers connected to my speaker jack on my laptop and tuned in. Until I get XM radio I will do the same with ESPN.

That's okay. I know BG is defensively tough, but they are just not there.

Now admit it, if you had Ben Reed on your team you would get a kick out of it. Fact is Ben Reed is a fantastic ball player and he knows how to get under the competitions skin and when you do that you throw your opponents off their game (or at least their fans).

As someone mentioned in another thread, we had someone very similar to Ben Reed a couple years ago. Some guy named Anthony Stacey. I think he had a pretty good career at BG and ended up scoring a couple points and getting a couple steals in his time. You are absolutely right that we would love him if he was on our team, but since he's not, I can't stand him. Good luck to Western from now until March 2.

The coaches have an evaluation sheet that they can send to the head of officiating after every game. I know that after my games at the junior college level, we always seem to be filling out the evaluation sheet on one official that wasn't that good. And yes, there are always going to be officials that want to make every call, even if they are out of postion. Last week, there were three calls where the play happened under the basket and and the official on the side called a foul. Some officials just want to be heard. We also have a blacklist where we can put up to 5 officials on the list so that they don't work our games if we really don't like them. But even after feeling that we had a badly officiated game, after watching the game tape, I always find enough plays that somone didn't do there job to cost us the game. So I do believe that bad officiating does hurt us, in the end the players on the court have to know that they have really turn up there game and make sure that the officials don't effect the outcome. How many offensive rebounds did Western have that could have been prevented if someone would have boxed them out? That is the real key in a close game like the one Saturday.
