Jan. 12, 2005

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team will play host to Ball State this Sunday in their first home meet of the 2005 season inside the Eppler Complex. The 2:00 p.m. meet will also be the Falcons opening Mid-American Conference showdown of the season.

BGSU is coming off a 194.850-190.150 loss to the University of Kentucky in the 22nd annual "Excite Night" last Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky. Senior Breanne Metzger finished second in the all-around with a 38.075, as the top Falcon performer.

Jessica Guyer (9.6) and Jacque Barnhardt (9.55) posted the top Falcon performances on vault, while Kari Elste (9.8), Jessica Bradley (9.725 and Sakura Tomita (9.55) displayed their skills on the uneven bars. Fresman Jessica Ewart posted a 9.725 on the beam, while Guyer (9.775) and Kristin DiPietro (9.675) were the top performers on the floor exercise.

A LOOK AT THE CARDINALS
The Ball State women's gymnastics team opened its 2005 schedule with a fourth-place showing at the Michigan State Invitational, last Friday evening in East Lansing, Mich. The Cardinals scored 190.025 points, while Michigan State, Denver and Louisiana State posted scores of 195.475, 193.875 and 193.725, respectively. The Cardinals were led by sophomore Jenna Tarking, who registered a score of 38.025 in the all around.

Tarkington won the vault with a score of 9.850, while senior Quiana Williams began her final season on a great note by winning the balance beam with a 9.900. Williams' score of 9.900 ties the Ball State all-time balance beam record.

The Cardinals scored a 48.075 on the vault, while posting marks of 47.625 on the floor, 47.425 on the beam and 46.900 on the uneven bars.

The Falcons own a 17-11 all-time series advantage over the Cardinals, including a 193.475-193.425 win last season at the Cardinal Classic.

SCHEDULE REMINDER
Following the meet with the Cardinals from Ball State, the Falcons will once again hit the road as they will travel to Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan the next two weekends, before returning home to compete in three matches in two weeks, starting with Kent State on February 4.

If you have the time open come on out. The girls have a lot of depth this year and with only four home meets each is just as important as the next. The meet starts at 2pm and will last about two hours. It will be h eld in the Eppler Center gymnasium. Come on out and be loud!!!

For those of you who could not make it to the meet today BG moved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC with a 193.000 - 191.750 win over Ball State in Eppler. BG had the lead all meet long despite things getting to within 2 tenths of a point at the end of the third rotation. A full, but not capacity crowd of 200 were in attendance. The Falcons have five more MAC meets in a row starting Sunday at Central Michigan. This will be a tough test for BG so if anyone feels the urge to go to the casino in Mt. Pleasant next weekend don't for get to come to the meet. All of the BG fans that can make it will be GREATLY appreciated. The Falcons return to the nest on February 4 for a 7pm meet against Kent State.
