Don't feel to bad, Falcons. Boise and UT combined for 4 missed extra points last night. tough way to lose, though.

Team played like crap in 2nd and 3rd quarters not just the QB.

My thouhts of the game ...

Young teams make mistakes. Self-inflicted mistakes caused this game, yet excellent play nearly won it in the final minutes. They grew a ton today. You don't expect a team full of freshmen and sophomores to come back like that.
Every team has its mistake filled game. Even back in 01 - 04, our team had those games full of mistakes. 01 Miami, 02 NIU, 02 USF, 03 Miami, 04 NIU, 04 Toledo. Glad that this year's mistake filled game was today, a non-conference game.
Matt's final drive is evidence of why he is going to be a FANTASTIC Falcon QB.
We have the best receiving group in the MAC.
Defense played inspired, but they had problems at times getting off the field on third down. They didn't lose this game for us today.
Chris Jones is a beast! When the defense needs a play and some inspiration, #91 is the guy.
The turnovers are all correctable. In fact, I didn't see a single mistake that's not correctable.
This team grew by a couple years today. They'll be a serious force in MAC play.
Never, never, never count the Falcons out of a game!

So, wait a second. You're telling me that a young team had six turnovers, went down by two TDs then battled back to lose by a single point on a missed PTA?

I'm not at all disappointed in that. Seriously.

You learn more in the valley than on the mountain top. But, I sure did yell the "f" word fifty times at the end of the game.

Are you kidding me? The right side of the line got rolled. They were laying on their backs three yards in the backfield. Pathetic.
I watched it again, and penetration wasn't enough to block that kick. Kick never got more then 7 feet off the ground.

Because they blocked it 4 yards into the backfield!

Yeah that line got destroyed.

I could see this team losing to or beating anyone else on their schedule save West Virginia.

Agreed. Add that to my thoughts on my previous post.
Also add to it that two of those turnovers nearly turned into TDs for us. The team could have easily gotten completely discouraged, flopped on their backs, and called it quits. Quitters don't drive the length of the field in under a minute with no TOs.

Which makes me think maybe going for 2 there wouldn't have been such a bad call. Hindsight is awesome, but we just went 90 yards in about 8 plays.

I'd have gone for two for sure. With all the momentum in the world, keep the foot on the pedal. But that's why I'm not a coach I guess.

I remember a not too distant season where this type of play was the norm. Thats my biggest fear. If it happens in one game and then they learn from it better this game then any MAC one.

Two red zonr turnovers is the story today. BG should have been up 21-0 and it would've been a whole different game. They should have won this game and while I give them credit for hanging tough amid the mistakes, its nearly impossible to win after 6 turnovers. Frustrating loss to say the least.

Not to raise issues but Burkhardt also missed a FG earlier in the game that was blocked due to it being a low kick. I know on a 40+ yarder you gotta drive the ball, but on an extra point, you can afford to get under it a bit either way lines fault, kickers fault, they gotta do something to keep this from happening, maybe a change of guard to the other kicker. Stein competed first team all during fall camp then was replaced by Burkhardt the final scrimmage. Give the guy a chance, obviously this isnt working.
