Self imploded today...
6 turnovers, 2 blocked kicks and too many penalties...ugh. A game we could have won but you cannot turn the ball over like that and not execute on special teams. We beat ourselves today.
BTW, anyone else think it was a BS call NOT getting the safety?? It sure looked like a safety.
Had an awesome time tailgating with everyone!
On to Miami....BEAT THE HAWKS.

It was AWESOME have the Freak and Freaklings "home" again! Last week just didn't feel right without you guys here!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

That was possibly the most frustrating game I have seen in my 30 years of watching BG football....and I will leave it at that...

I thought to call on the possible safety was the right call...he wasn't in the endzone when he was tackled. In my mind, this wasn't the most frustrating game. The Buffalo 2008 collapse with the conference title game on the line was far worse than today.

Re: Self imploded today...
As coach mentioned in the postgame, the team still can't hurdle adversity. The imploding comes from the inability to stop the bleeding in games, and things tend to compound themselves. This is something that has plagued the program for the last 5-6 years.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Self imploded today...
Agreed....it wasn't even so much "that" we lost but "how" we lost that was so damn frustrating to me. The 6 turnovers (while not all interceptions) reminded me of the game against Louisiana Tech in 1995 when Ryan Henry tossed 6 of them and we somehow only lost 28-21 and almost recovered the onside kick at the end. The missed PAT today had me more thinking about our missed field goal on the last play (missed wide after we centered the ball, wasn't a blocked kick like today) in the loss to Buffalo last year in a game we somehow had a chance to win after all kind of mistakes but lost 28-26. But today, we so outplayed Wyoming compared to those two games but we just beat ourselves in so many ways.Flipper wrote:That was possibly the most frustrating game I have seen in my 30 years of watching BG football....and I will leave it at that...

Couldn't agree more. Ints I can handle...especially with a sophomore relatively inexperienced QB. But the fumbles are absolutely inexcusable. You cannot ever fumble 4 times in a game and expect to win. Frustrating is about as perfect as you can put it in one word.Falconfreak90 wrote:I agree with that Flip....Frustrating is the perfect word.Flipper wrote:That was possibly the most frustrating game I have seen in my 30 years of watching BG football....and I will leave it at that...
Oh and I gotta say I LOVE the tradition JG has on the radio of a post-game haiku...has he always done that or is it new this year? It's cool as hell though and yesterday's made perfect sense, although I cannot remember it word for word. Something about beating yourselves and BG earned this loss.

Re: Self imploded today...
It did to me as well, but I was on the 50yd line so I didn't have the best angle. Correct me if I'm wrong (because I'm honestly not sure) but the entire ball has to be behind the goal line for it to be a safety. So, if the ball was breaking the plane by the slightest margin, he's outside the end zone.Falconfreak90 wrote: BTW, anyone else think it was a BS call NOT getting the safety?? In order for it to be a safety the following has to happen:musicman2343 wrote:It did to me as well, but I was on the 50yd line so I didn't have the best angle. A) He has to be deemed as gaining control of the ball OUTSIDE of the endzone.
B) He has to be deemed as having gone into the endzone of his own volition, not forced there by a defender.
C) He has to be tackled with any part of the ball on or behind the goalline. Same as a TD, if any part of the ball breaks the plane of the goalline it is IN the endzone.
To ME it looked like A&B were obvious, while C was somewhat in question. What got me was that they ended up spotting the ball all the way out to the 2 yard line. That tells me that the official ruled that B was incorrect and that he was actually forced into the endzone by our defenders, and gave him forward progress to the 2. If that's the case that was an AWFUL call as there is no way we forced him back that far. As I recall, he had gone back into the endzone before our defenders got a finger on him.
Re: Self imploded today...
We left at half time. (football was second to Mrs. Tech to spending time with Nicholas) That said, we played poorly. Next week will be a tough week in Oxford. Miami has been playing some tough teams pretty tightly. Only lost to Minnesota on the last play of the game yesterday. We'll be in the Ox for the game - on the up side - no matter the outcome, my alma mater will win the game.
Re: Self imploded today...
Yet we still easily could have won which means we lost to an awful football team. That's what gets me the most. We should have scored 50 on that swiss chesse defense. Drives me nuts to lose to teams we are clearly better than.hammb wrote: You cannot ever fumble 4 times in a game and expect to win. Frustrating is about as perfect as you can put it in one word.
I would be fine losing to a good Wyoming team 28-27 but they are not good. They might be 3-0 but they can thank cupcake scheduling and playing a BG team that likes giving it away.
I was happy to see that they didn't just roll over and die. Too many games like this over the past 5 years have turned into 28+ point losses. The blocked extra point didn't even bother me much because I expected it after that field goal got blown up.
Hopefully they learn from this.

Hopefully this game works out the kinks before the MAC schedule starts next week. As bad as this game was our D only gave 21 points on 5 turnovers.

If there is a call to be made, and there are no MAC Officials around, do they still screw it up?

lost turnover margin 6 to 1
lost rushing battle 129 to 77
