If in some fantasy world BG was getting attention of bigger conferences. Would you be willing to throw away the traditional rivalries with Toledo and Miami, and jump ship to greener pastures?

If you can call the Big East big time. Also I don't think it is every year, and eventually the schools will get mad that they never get a home game.

I'd support a move to a perceived better conference and drop the traditional opponents in a heartbeat.

With the push toward 16 team conferences, I can see Conf USA and the MAC merging (to some extent) at some point. East Carolina has already applied to join the Big East. I could see a couple others tryign to go that route as well. And some from the C-USA West trying to get into the Mtn West Conf. The leftovers and the MAC could join together. After Temple leaves for the Big East also, that is.

MAC, minus Temple and maybe another school or two, plus most of the CUSA East and Tulsa and Tulane???

I could have sworn the Kibbie Dome was Idaho. And the reason I suggested it is because the Big East, although not a football power, is a BCS conference. Why would we apply to a non-BCS conference? Not saying we would be accepted to either, but I figured we should apply to the Big East just for kicks.

I wouldn't mind dropping the Miami game, but I'd prefer to see us keep a yearly game against Toledo, the way UC and Miami still play every year.

If a perceived bigger conference were to come knocking, I'd probably support BG making the move up, especially if we were able to keep the I-75 Rivalry going. But even if we had to drop it, if the circumstance was right, I'd probably still support the move. We'd find new rivals eventually.

When my dad was growing up, the Reds played in the NL West, and had a decent rivalry for the division crown with the Dodgers. After the shake-up in the mid-90's, that rivalry went away, but in the last few years, the seeds were planted and have now grown into a pretty good Cincinnati/St. Louis rivalry.

Unfortunately in the new college football world , many of the MAC , Conf USA, WAC and MTN west schools are going to essentially be playing 1-aa football. There will be 4 or 5 16 team super conferences playing for all the big money. This will be where all the TV money and BCS ( if it still exists will be ) .. If you are not in a major super conference than you are just playing insignificant football.

At least in the current system an undefeated Mid Major has a shot at a bcs or a big time bowl .. In the new system with 16 team conferences you will see more 1, 2 and 3 loss teams in the BCS because of the schedules.. The non super powers will be playing for scraps.. Also , schedling is going to be very difficult. With 16 team conferences there will be very little out of conference games and it will be tough to play teams like WVU , FLA ect down the road..

BG needs to decide what they want to be, unfortunately 14,000 fans on a september saturday doesnt really give the big east any incentive to offer an Invite..

I always cringe whenever this topic is brought up on sports talk radio because someone will invariably say, "It'll be great. We'll get rid of all these games involving Eastern Michigan and Kent State and Toledo..." I'm always afraid they'll mention Bowling Green and then I'll have to jam a screwdriver into my radio.

The stadium would need to be expanded to seat over 50,000. Ticket prices would be $60 or more in todays market. The Big Ten would be the logical conference because those teams have the fan base within a reasonable driving distance to fill up all the empty seats available.
