WCHA Bound???
Re: WCHA Bound???
3 teams in the UP, 2 in Alaska. Ferris is the closest road trip. Can only hope to bring the 4 AHA teams with us, and UAH.

We're going to need to find a lot more money in the budget for travel...

Re: WCHA Bound???
Most ironic about this whole situation is the fact that if we go to the WCHA, there will be more CCHA teams in the WCHA, than WCHA teams.BGDrew wrote:We're going to need to find a lot more money in the budget for travel...

I can't stop thinking we're screwed. I don't mind playing different teams, and it will be only a few years after the transition that all BG students will know nothing about the teams that were in the CCHA. It seems as though BG is a crumb at the bottom of the bag and we have not been in control of where we end up.

Re: WCHA Bound???
I hope the AD has some sort of trick up his sleeves with this one. I am hopeful something is magically going on that we don't know about. Like a Pitt Kent Ohio U revival and they all join us in the CCHA with UAH (poor UAH in all of this). I am not a big fan of going with the WCHA, but we can at least be competitive there, but I am just not sure about the travel though among other concerns

Re: WCHA Bound???
Rumor has it that the WCHA commish and existing teams are not happy with BG, due to the fact that they are trying to bring other teams with them. They also aren't happy with the delay in accepting the invitation considering BG is the least wanted team from the CCHA.
Nothing like making the WCHA angry before you even join.....for those who follow college hockey on a national level, you know the WCHA commish is a person you don't cross. It may come back to bite us short term or down the road.
Why is GC still employed? Everyone knows he stinks....

Why is GC employed? Seriously now???? Why do you even post your rude and harsh comments. I believe GC has done more good than harm. He was an integral process in the Stroh Center, the renovations to the ice arena, upgrades to the Doyt, and has made some good coaching hires. More to an AD than just the wins and losses.

Turning lemons into lemonade...
As everything stands right now, we are a dead lock to win the CCHA title in 2013-14.

Re: WCHA Bound???
I agree with gmartin, give GC a break. He moved quickly on the Bergeron hire and has done what he can with limited resources to secure the future of the hockey program. I have to believe that there is still a surprise in the works with conference realignment. Otherwise there would have been no reason to delay an announcement. The WCHA just seems like a jumble and doesn't excite me a bit.
Re: WCHA Bound???
It is interesting to me that many of the GC supporters are not from the Bowling Green area and don't see some of the inside or talk to many of the people in the athletic depoartment on an everyday basis. If that were the case, I think there would be some changed opinions.
GC has basically made many decisions to try and make himself look good (resume building) and not necessarily in the best interest of BGSU.

Re: WCHA Bound???
I actually agree with Drago! Are we talking about the same GC that diverted funds away from the hockey program to the football team? Resulting in an almost mutiny by our most prestigious hockey alumni? The same GC that allowed the then intern-president to suggest hockey should be folded resulting in our program being set back who knows how many years. The same GC who sends the asisstant AD or whatever that Knavel guys is to the most important meetings in the history of our program regarding our uncertain future. How about GC gives an update on the program status other then his sidekick giving us zero information every time he gives a quote to the press. GC was hired because he was perceived as a good fundraiser, except the only sports he raises funds for are the ones HE cares about...football and bball. This is the same GC who couldn't convince the Stroh family to let hockey into their new building, the same GC who has all but let the "Bring Back the Glory Campaign" die. Yeah that's great he hired Bergeron but let's not get it twisted, you need a heck of alot more then just a passionate coaching staff to have a great program. GC and the rest of those AD clowns have let this team slide, slide and slide further and further towards irrelevancy and I fear now, it's too late. I've tried looking at this from so many angles, and oevr and over it comes coming back to the fact BGSU hockey will never be the same moving forward and that's a sad reality people are going to have to live with.

Please give examples of such decision making.factman wrote:GC has basically made many decisions to try and make himself look good (resume building) and not necessarily in the best interest of BGSU.

Re: WCHA Bound???
I am a BGSU alum, and have spoken with former presidents of BGSU and have spoken to GC one numerous occasions. Just because I don't live on BG doesn't mean I don't know whats going on. I attend 4 home football games and about 3 away games per year. Season ticket holder for both Men's and Women's basketball and my family and I are generous donors. Dont assume if you don't live near BG then you don't know squat. Is GC perfect. Not even close but I don't think BG could do any better witj the deck he is dealing with. His positives outweigh the negatives 2 to 1
Re: WCHA Bound???
Warthog-
The golf outing that many of the sports had were one example. GC decided to combine them all and have one large outing and it went over like a lead balloon, and was completelyy gone after, I believe, a couple years. Why? Because no one wanted to donate to causes where they didn't know where the money was going and prefered to give to individual sports. So now he tells each sport that they can have a golf outing IF they take $100 of each participants proceeds and make them an automatic Falcon Club member or add to their giving level. Not only have they lost the momentum of having the outing for a couple of years, but the added $100 fee puts it out of reach for many of the people that play in them. What GC thought it would do is add many members to the Falcon Club, which would look good on his resume, but most of them have gone by the way of the Model T, due to these restricitions, costing many of the sports tens of thousands of dollars to their budget, which was never replaced.

Re: WCHA Bound???
Who is assuming anything? I must have missed the comment about not knowing what's going on or questioning anyones fan'hood? I don't donate to the program or have season tickets and I certainly don't rub elbows with the higher up's so I guess that makes my opinion mean less. Relax Gmartin, everyon is entitled to theirs and if you think GC is doing a good job then that's fine for you. Apparently alot of others don't. So what?!
