Being a FC member and not living in BG pretty much makes you like most alumni on this board, but don't worry, we won't hold your newness in becoming a hockey fan against you.DetroitFalcon wrote:. . .By the way, I am a Falcon Club member, and I do not live in BG. That should give me double license to speak my mind on this website. I started enjoying Falcon hockey in the late 1980s . . .

Re: WCHA Bound???
Was Krebs a better AD with respect to BGSU hockey?
Re: WCHA Bound???
Derm, Krebs was the WORST AD in respect to Falcon hockey. He and Sidney Ribeau let the program slide into utter obscurity for years. Those two were directly responsible for the program almost disappearing. Thank god Dr. Cartwright realized what the program means to the school and the community. Where is Paul Olscamp when you need him

Bruce Ciskie Sports Director at Red Rock Radio in Duluth is reporting that a source has told him Bowling Green is meeting with Niagara, Robert Morris, Canisius, Mercyhurst, and BUFFALO. RIT declined to attend despite being invited, and Air Force didn't send a representative but indicated interest.

Re: WCHA Bound???
Interesting thought. I can't say I'd disagree with that. We would definately burn a bridge with the WCHA if pull the trigger on our own league.I personally think BG is trying to form their own league at this point with AH teams.....to save on travel and make it easier to compete.
We may form a league now that may not seem as formidable as others, but I'd give it five to tens years and Miami and Western will be forced back in to our league or be begging into the Big Ten due to travel costs. I can say the Miami donors and Alumni are worried about the long term effects of their program and travel cost effects on thier budget.
Good things come to those that wait...............

CCHA offices in Cleveland with a "local" travel docket. At first I wasn't a fan and thought the WCHA was our best change. I've tempered that quite a bit and see the upsides of the situation.
Hmmmmmmm. I live on the east side of Cleveland and there could be a great deal of road trips in my future if all of this is true. IIIInteresting.

So if Krebs was so bad why are people slamming GC? The parking lot is getting paved, lobby renovated, new sound system and all new ice making equipment last summer, an awesome new coach, how does that equate to GC not caring about BGSU hockey? We are going to be a national power again very soon.
Re: WCHA Bound???
Interesting scenario. Personally, I'd much prefer to look east as our program rebuilds. This sort of reminds me of the early CCHA days back in the 70's ... no names who became big names in the span of a decade or two. I'm a bit surprised that UAH is not in the mix.Tricky_Falcon wrote:Bruce Ciskie Sports Director at Red Rock Radio in Duluth is reporting that a source has told him Bowling Green is meeting with Niagara, Robert Morris, Canisius, Mercyhurst, and BUFFALO. Re: WCHA Bound???
Noticed throughout this thread people mentioning wanting to support the program but living far away and not being able to make games, well here is a way to support the program to those who fit that description
http://www.bgsufalcons.com/sports/2009/ ... spx?id=111"Bergeron's Buddies" Ticket Donation Program -- Fans that live away from Bowling Green or can't attend games can still 'tally an assist' by purchasing season tickets to help support Falcon Hockey. All season tickets purchased through the Falcon Assist Donation Program will be donated to youth-oriented non-profit organizations in the Wood County area.

So it appears some people are upset that the athletic department has been relatively quiet during this whole process?
Might I ask why everyone is in such a hurry? It's called due diligence and the athletic department is exercising it. And good for them. God forbid we rush into something we might not totally want.
The WCHA (which is a great hockey conference, btw) has given us a flexible deadline and that means they're willing to wait for us. Also good news.
I don't see where any of this is bad news.... all situations look like BG will continue to play D1 hockey in the future. What's not to like?

About time Buffalo started thinking about adding a hockey team, would make perfect sense in a hockey crazed town like Buffalo (granted in the area Canisius and Niagara already have teams). Actually did a project in one of my undergrad sport management classes about the Buffalo athletic department and them adding hockeyTricky_Falcon wrote:Bruce Ciskie Sports Director at Red Rock Radio in Duluth is reporting that a source has told him Bowling Green is meeting with Niagara, Robert Morris, Canisius, Mercyhurst, and BUFFALO. We're 8-0 against Buffalo. We pretty much handled them everytime we played them in the late '70s. They dropped their program after they determined they weren't ready to go big time.

I would not mind seeing this... WCHA, CCHA and Atlantic all join forces to form a monster confrence called the UCHL (United College Hockey League)..Set up two diff divisions and have at it! That would be sweet....
