Hello Falcons
Hello Falcons
WVU fan here. Just wanted to stop by and say "hi".
I must admit, I haven't had a chance to catch any of your games yet this year, but it's no secret you have a pretty good offense as I've seen Schilz's name at the top of a lot of passing lists nationally. Your only loss has been to a pretty good Wyoming team on a blocked extra point, which by the way, had to have been a complete heart-breaker!!! But, seems you rebounded pretty well against Miami. I'm not sure if the WVU team is going to be suffering from this LSU-Hangover like us fans are, but I sure hope they get things together and have a good week of preparation because I think they'll really need it. You are definitely capable of making a game of it come Saturday, and obviously I hope you don't.
So anyway, what's the deal with your offense? Is it one of those no-huddle, up-tempo, spread attacks? Or, something completely different? What about your running game and your defense? Any insight on what I should expect to see come Saturday?
Thanks!

Welcome to the board!
Our offense has some elements of the west coast and some of the type of spread you guys run. Our running game has been a very pleasant surprise this year. Last year the running game didn't exist after the offensive line got destroyed by injuries. This year, there's depth on the line and in the backs. Our speedy back is a true freshman who blows us away time and time again.
Sorry about that big loss on national TV but I kinda saw that one coming. No shame in losing to LSU. And call it a sign of national respect that LSU jumped to number one nationally only after beating WVU. Welcome to the board, ignore birdman as he is a useless tool, and I can't wait for the game. Two of my fraternity brothers and I are meeting up in Morgantown for the game.

Well, that's an interesting break down of your team. I must confess, I don't like hearing the words "speedy back". I had heard about your passing game, but I guess I was assuming (or hoping) you didn't have much of a running game. Like our offense, our defense has been very "streaky" this year to say the least. The defense was great last year, but lost 7 starters and are now going through some growing pains. We haven't created many turnovers (I think we had 1 in the first game and zero since, but that's just a guess). I think overall the defense has some serious talent and ability, but they're somewhat raw and a bit confused at times. I guess I'm hoping they see enough of the pass in practice everyday that they'll be well-prepared.
Our offense, well, you just don't know what's going to happen. For example, Norfolk State put some serious, serious pressure on Geno for most of the game while only rushing THREE defenders, which really disrupted the flow. But strangely enough, LSU's defensive line had zero pressure on Geno. No sacks. No hurries. Go figure? As for our running game, it's been non-existent this year, but I think that may be starting to pick up with Garrison. Overall, it seems we play our best when we use a very, very fast tempo. It's almost like the offense has a case of A.D.D.. If they slow things down, they lose focus. However, I have seen a dramatic improvement over the first 4 games. It seems the offense is finally starting to "make sense" to the players. They're starting to click.
Either way, I've seen us play great this year. I've seen us play uncharacteristically poor. If anyone doesn't think BG is capable of beating us, they don't know what they're talking about. This game concerns me. Hopefully we can use the home-field advantage and pull away early because if it's a slug-fest going into the 2nd half, it's anyone's game. The millon dollar question is - will they come out flat like Maryland did against Temple? And that's not saying Temple isn't good because definitely they are, but I just hope we find a way to get up for this game because I have a feeling BG is going to come out swinging.

Re: Hello Falcons
Hey WVU1811,
Was hoping to go down to this game. Have two friends that got the WVU who are both from Bowling Green. Was looking forward to this game since last year too.
I really hope this game is a good one with BG coming out on top lol. But that would involve us 1.) making no mistakes (fumbles, interceptions, etc..) and 2.) actually being able to make our PAT's!!!!!
Hoping for a great game but GO FALCONS!!

Hey LF!
Making no mistakes? Yeah... tell me about it. We coughed up 4 turnovers against LSU. I can name 3 specific plays that, if they had different outcomes, that entire game would have changed. But hey, isn't that the story with every team in the country? It's amazing how you play the game for 4 quarters, but it's usually just a couple of plays that make the difference by changing momentum.
I know our coach was pissed about the 4 turnovers, so hopefully they'll work on it this week. My biggest concern is suffering from mental fatigue from the LSU game. I truly believe that most games are won/lost during the week with great preparation, or a lack of it. At least you had another game after your missed PAT to kinda clear the cobwebs and get refocused. So, I think you guys will be ready to roll.
BTW, how's your kick returners? Our kickoff coverage has been a glaring weakness for the past several years. It seems like we constantly give up a big kick return every game. Do I have anything to worry about? lol!

Samuel has good MAC speed, but nothing like LSU. This will be a good measuring stick for our overall talent especially with florida and vtech on the schedule for next year.
I like our chances if we can eliminate the turnovers and our receivers can play up to the competition level.
WVU1811, espn has our last game on replay if you want to check us out on film.

A good learning experience this week for BG. Will they win this game? No. But they have a chance to show themselves and the MAC that they are for real.

Re: Hello Falcons
We won't win but we have a chance to show the MAC we're for real. No offense but that doesn't make much sense to me. Us losing by a couple scores isn't going to get anyone's attention. I think we can keep it close and if we can do that e have a shot.jpfalcon09 wrote:A good learning experience this week for BG. Will they win this game? WVU,
We understand the turnover thing very well as I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) we had 6 turnovers in a matter of 5 quarters between the Wyoming and Miami games.

Something like that. But hopefully they straightened that out in the second half vs. Miami!LowryFalcon wrote:Thanks TG,
but that was in 5 quarters right?

Re: Hello Falcons
Welcome wvu1811! Not that this means anything, but West Virginia is our "replacement" game for having the Ohio State game rescheduled to 2016 thanks to Nebraska entering the Big Ten. Certainly we would have been able to look at the OSU game as getting them at the right time this year, but as far as who is the better team right now between OSU and WVU it has to be you guys. OSU is picking up the tab for what WVU is paying us and what we should have been paid for the OSU game so I hope WVU was able to work out a good deal with us and you!
We are looking forward to coming down to Morgantown and taking in first hand what we hear is a great football atmosphere. I think there will be a hardcore group of BG fans coming down and with a 3:30 kickoff, sounds like plenty of time for some tailgating and swapping of stories. Where would you say the best place to park and tailgate among the Mountaineer fans would be?
This should be a great matchup and if we can hang on to the ball could be a fun game to watch!
