More O$U Suspensions
Herron, Posey, and Hall have all been suspended for the Nebraska game due to being paid too much for too little work at their summer jobs.
According to Gene Smith, there isn't a "systemic" problem at Ohio State.
Couldn't help but laugh at that....
Let's see what else turns up!

Re: More O$U Suspensions
There is a lot of new stuff for the NCAA to look at, courtesy of ...........Terrell Pryor.
When he was trying to get the NCAA to declare him as ineligible for his senior season so that he could declare for the supplemental draft that he all of a sudden started talking and talking and talking and would not shut up. The NCAA wouldn't play his game and make the declaration so he quit talking to them (the reason Gene Smith said he could have no contact with the program for five years) but the NCAA is continuing to investigate his claims.
Nice legacy to leave TP.

I wonder If the Osu band can do script Ohio on a basketball court?

Re: More O$U Suspensions
If this does not speak to a lack of institutional control, then I don't know what does. I was just re-reading the story of the SMU case, and the only thing that makes a huge difference between SMU and O$U is that O$U keeps doing something about it, although very minimal and very late. They keep skirting by, but I wonder how many more issues such as this it will take before the NCAA comes down on them. I would like to see at least a Bowl and/or TV ban for a couple years. Talk about a lot of ticked of Buckeye fans.Rightupinthere wrote:I wonder If the Osu band can do script Ohio on a basketball court?

Love how Teke has been on an all time long absence. I'm sure it it is coincidental and he has been busy.

Re: More O$U Suspensions
To me, a TV ban seems to be more of a punishment for the fans than the school. I mean, I do understand that the school sees some money from television profits, etc. But I got to figure that without TV coverage, O$U will not see a drop in game attendance (more likely an increase) or merchandise purchases, and so it's just slightly harder for people to follow the team. A bowl ban on the other hand decreases the prestige of the program. Looking at USC currently, someone almost always mentions how they're playing for pride and nothing else these days. Bowl games not only give a school money, but also are great recruiting tools, etc. And a bowl ban also means that no matter how good a team you field, there is absolutely zero chance of you playing for a National Championship. Even with non-AQ schools like BG, while it's so unlikely that you could essentially say we have zero chance, there's still that theoretical chance on paper that every single star could align to produce such a scenario.
Long story short, I don't think a TV ban would achieve much of the desired effect, but a multi-year bowl/postseason ban would.

Knitpicking here but you can be banned from bowls and still win the AP title.Ydfalcon wrote:there is absolutely zero chance of you playing for a National Championship. Re: More O$U Suspensions
I think a TV ban would have an effect on the University. Prospective students from other states know about OSU through the TV, so they could lose potential recruits. Also, many people tailgate outside the horseshoe, pay for parking, and then watch the game on TV in the parking lot. Would these people come to tailgate if they couldn't watch the game? My guess is probably not. So, OSU would lose parking income from that. I think a 3 year ban on both would be a strong enough message, and they could even do something similar to what they did to SMU and ban them from paying for travel costs for prospective recruits.Ydfalcon wrote:To me, a TV ban seems to be more of a punishment for the fans than the school. Re: More O$U Suspensions
A TV ban hurts the other school in the game as much as OSU. No good. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure OSU is going to get off the hook in this one.
Boise State got hit with a lack of institutional control ... for not realizing that its incoming freshmen were sleeping on the couches or on the floors of current athletes, and not realizing that an impoverished foreign student was loaned a 20 year old Honda. Ohio State gets nothing for not noticing all the free cars, free tattoos, pot for signed jerseys, etc. That's called being friends with the entire NCAA committee on infractions. Such BS.
