Pick the MAC, week 7!

Post by MarkL »

Here's the standings, and we've got a tie for first halfway through the season! And as always, if you think I botched your wins / losses, let me know, I'll review and fix it. I know I've been pretty inactive on the site recently and I apologize. It's been pretty crazy on my end recently.

And for this week's schedule. All games are conference games and Akron gets a bye week ... which they really, really need.

Saturday
Toledo at Bowling Green, 12:00
Buffalo at Temple, 1:00
Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan, 3:00
Ball State at Ohio, 3:30
Miami at Kent, 3:30
Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, 3:30

And ... my picks.
Bowling Green. The guys will be fired up, no doubt. Homecoming Jinx is over, and we start out 1-0 in the battle for the I-75 trophy or whatever that thing is called. Go Falcons!!
Temple. Buffalo's really not that bad, but Temple, when they play their best, are the best team in the conference.
Central Michigan. CMU is not hitting their stride, but they've played better than they have in a while. I think they could improve quite a bit yet this year. EMU ... well ...
Image
Ohio. This is actually a tough one to pick as Ohio didn't look too hot last week. I'll say Frank has them ready to go.
Kent. I haven't seen them play all year and I have seen Miami play. I wasn't impressed with Miami, so I'll just say Kent. Tough one to call.
NIU. Really, really tough call here. Both offenses are in stride, both defenses have had their moments. I'll say NIU in a tight, high scoring one.

I'll be back this weekend for homecoming. Can't wait to see everybody there! Go BG!

Toledo at Bowling Green. I'm following my dad's advice on this one. In big games, he always said to pick against your team. If your team wins, you won't care about your pick. If they lose, at least you get something out of it.

Buffalo at Temple. The Bulls are in for a very long afternoon.

Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan

Ball State at Ohio. I hate the Snobkitties, but expect them to get the W here.

Miami at Kent. I keep waiting for Kent to get it together. Maybe this is the week.

Western Michigan at Northern Illinois. This will be the best MAC game of the month, maybe the year. I'd usually go with the home team, but there's something about this Western team I really like.

First off, let me say that this is a really tough week - one that will definitely play a big part in who wins this contest. 10 guys within 3 picks of the lead...wow.

Toledo at Bowling Green, 12:00 - Toledo - Picked Toledo at the beginning, and right now I think they're just better. Homecoming's become somewhat of a jinx for BG too, though it doesn't touch family weekend...yet
Buffalo at Temple, 1:00 - Temple - No contest. Da Bulls got up for last week but they won't do it 2 weeks in a row. Owls big.
Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan, 3:00 - Central Michigan - I'm actually somewhat leery of a upset here, but the Chips get it done at home.
Ball State at Ohio, 3:30 - Ohio - The Bobcats rally back after a poor performance last week and get the W against the Cardinals, who have been a very difficult team to predict.
Miami at Kent, 3:30 - Miami - I still think Miami is better than their record suggests. Kent on the other hand, is just plain bad. Redhawks by a couple of scores.
Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, 3:30 - Northern Illinois - Wow is this a tough one to predict, probably team that gets the ball last wins and I think that's the Huskies.

Toledo at Bowling Green - Big game, full of emotion, coming off two bad losses. Unfortunately, Homecoming doesn't go very well and the Falcons just can't seem to pull out the victory. I am sick to my stomach right now. Toledo w...w...w...I can't say it.

Buffalo at Temple - Temple has shown some flaws but Buffalo isn't the kind of team that will be able to take advantage of them. Owls win.

Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan - Chippewas scalp the Eagles...wouldn't it be cool if EMU was still the Hurons? CMU wins.

Ball State at Ohio - I think OU has the better team in this matchup. They get the victory at home.

Miami at Kent - Kent actually has a chance in this one...but not really. Miami wins on the road.

Western Michigan at Northern Illinois - This will be a great battle. I'll give the edge to the home team. NIU wins.

Man, what a tough week for picks...I expect alot of these games to be close, as the match-ups on paper seem to be very even.

Toledo at Bowling Green, 12:00 - The road of tough opponents continues for BGSU. They must play their best game of the year if they expect to win. That being said, I think a young, enthusiastic Falcon team gets their mistakes corrected and pulls out the win on Homecoming. Pick: BGSU

Buffalo at Temple, 1:00 - Buffalo has really surprised me this year, I think that Coach Quinn has finally got some better players in the program and it's really starting to show. That being said, Temple is still too good for them...I don't see them losing at home. Pick: Temple

Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan, 3:00 - Problems continue to linger for both teams. I think that Ron English has done a fantastic job so far with one of the worst programs in the country. Central is a far more talented team and expect them to win by two touchdowns. Look for Alex Niznak to take control of the starting QB job next year. Pick: CMU

Ball State at Ohio, 3:30 - Tough one here, as neither team has really impressed me so far. I'll go out on a limb here and say that Ohio gets it done at home. Pick: Ohio

Miami at Kent, 3:30 - I was expecting much better things this year from Miami. Treadwell is a very good coach, and he will eventually get things back on track. Even still, Kent is not a very good football team. Miami wins by 10. Pick: Miami

Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, 3:30 - Two of the best teams in the MAC in my opinion. I think that WMU takes their first step toward a MAC championship with a win in Dekalb. Pick: WMU

Toledo at Bowling Green, 12:00 I hate Turdledo, but they are the better team right now.
Buffalo at Temple, 1:00 Temple should roll Buffalo
Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan, 3:00 I am calling an Eastern Michigan road W!
Ball State at Ohio, 3:30 Ohio will win one of the closest games of the year!
Miami at Kent, 3:30 Kent is just awful. Miami will win going away!
Western Michigan at Northern Illinois, 3:30 What has gone wrong in DeKalb? Western wins!

Bowling Green: This week's homer pick.
Buffalo: Temple should win, which is why I think they won't.
Eastern Michigan: EMU should be able to win this game, and I think it's one of their rivalry games.
Ohio: I can't even pick a team named Balls Tate.
Miami: I hate Kent. End of story there.
Western Michigan: WMU is the strong team in the West this year.

Wow, seems like this is the attitude of most of the board, as the majority has the Team Up North winning. How is it that many of us had our Falcons winning over West Virginia, but now loing at home to Team Up North. Not gonna Happen.

My Picks:

Bowling Green - I said shortly after the WMU loss on this board that the Falcons would win by at least two touchdown, and haven't changed my thoughts one bit. Just like 2001, I like the underdog Bowling Green in a blowout win at home. Tomorrow we end all of the Homecoming curse nonsense. Falcons are still my pick to win the East and the MAC, and at this rate, 6-2 just might be enough to win it outright, although they'll be 7-1.
