I think some teams want out of Big East because it is unbalanced between all-sports and football.
Agree 100%.
I worry about BGSU. I think we are viewed as too "blue collar" nationally. I worry we'll be stuck in a conference with Kent, Akron, Buffalo, Ball State, and Eastern. Ugh.

Would we really be "losing" Temple, seriously?

Again, I don't think I mentioned only Temple, Nathan.

You saw what happened to the CCHA, right? Did BGSU get invited to the new "national" conference? Nope. But Western and Miami did.
If the MAC has any interest in expanding to 16, I'd like to see it make an attempt to get two schools from the CAA and/or A10 that have good football/basketball programs. Then, perhaps, they could join with Temple and Umass in all sports. It's a long shot, but it would be nice to lock up Temple, Umass, and two other solid programs in Bball.

Hockey is entirely different (and it is only one sport).

Of course it's different. But would you have thought 20 years ago that a national conference would have taken WMU over BGSU?
The perception is what matters. It was an example.
Houston will accept the offer to the Big East. The money is too great for them not too. They have big plans both academically and athletically, and right now the Big East offers way too much for them to turn it down. SMU will do the same, but that is because they are trying to compete with TCU for fans, and losing badly right now. They want to return to the glory days of the Pony Express, without the buying of players. The way things are going, eventually Texas is going to lose it's hold on the state when it comes to recruiting, and they are going to have to do something like getting UH and SMU back in a conference with them to get some of their recruiting base back. But they are so arrogant, they actually think they could go independent and still be dominant. A&M going to the SEC was the first straw to bring down UT, and now with the Big East having a recruiting tie in the state, this might really hurt them. Football recruits would much rather play in the SEC, and basketball recruits would much rather play in the Big East. And add the fact that DeLoss Dodds isn't making any new friends with his own board of regents, and things are starting to swing against UT. They can't even get their own network picked up by cable carriers down here. It's rather amusing. I am not sure there is any more arrogant a fan base and school that Texas.
