Re: Basketball Recruiting
Assuming these are "true", not much size in the group.... do they figure the two 6'10" kids are "enough"?

Re: Basketball Recruiting
With the departures of Oglesby, Thomas, Brown, and McElroy, we clearly need to add forwards with this upcoming class.
Also, I would not expect us to pursue so many small guards. With Crawford, Henderson, Kraus, and Clarke, we are stocked.

Tyler Flack 6-6/7 Lakeville, Minnesota
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mANFSxeZxgU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETSRX830u04
*My notes: I really like him. Very athletic with some nice explosion off the floor and quickness. can dribble and shoot a bit despite a low release. Runs the floor well, seems to be in the right place very often without the ball)
George Funtarov 6-6/7 200 Lawrence Kansas * WE HAVE OFFERED

*(My notes: Nothing spectactular, looks like he is pretty big, active and can run the floor, looks like he has a decent stroke. Not especially athletic but could be a pretty solid, active big

Re: Basketball Recruiting update 9/17
Wonder why we seem to be recruiting Minnesota so hard....does one of our asst. coaches have "contacts" there? That being said, looks like these guys are all forwards which we will need to be replacing after this year.

Flack signed with South Dakota but we offered him. I had to look up and see if S Dakota was Division 1.

09 commit headed to Kent State
CPHR would like to congratulate former Aiken SF Darren Goodson, a '09 graduate currently at Pensacola State Community College (FL), on committing to play at Kent State next season. Goodson, who was considered on of Ohio's top seniors in 2009 was originally signed to play at Bowling Green before going the Junior College route. A 6'5 slasher with power and a tough minded attitude Goodson can score with anyone and has the athleticism to create matchup problems in the MAC.

Re: Basketball Recruiting update 10/17
At our "last" 50th reunion event on Sat. nite, we had the chance to talk with coach Orr briefly...he and coach Hopson were just leaving to take a couple of recruits to dinner. Didn't get a good look at the kids from where we were, but guessing they were guards judging on approx. heights from a distance.

Re: Basketball Recruiting update 2/17
I updated the first post with a couple signings and there is anew website I found that lists recruits
http://www.recruitrecon.com/index.php?o ... C_Template
I have no idea if it is any better then the last ones that never once mentioned Holmes or Parker until they were signed.
An overview of the lists.
ESPN
PG-Isiah Brooks-Walnut Ridge 5-7 145.
For those of you that hate Crawford if you read his scouting report, he is basically Crawford.
Strengths:Brooks has a tight handle and good quickness, is able to consistently get himself into the lane in both directions, and has a definite weapon with his pull-up jumper. He has a low release point on his jumper from behind the arc, but can nonetheless make open threes when left unchecked.
Weaknesses: Brooks is a talented lead guard who suffers from being terribly undersized.
Bottom Line: He's also plenty scrappy and not afraid to get on the floor to go after loose balls.
Rivals:No new names
Scout:No new names
Recruiterrecon:
Confirmed offers
-Parker
-Holmes
-George Harper 6-7 Columbus State Community College
Unconfirmed offers.
Joey Gripper PG 6-0
Josh Lemons PG 5-11 165
AJ King PG 5-8 155
Ky Howard PG/SG 6-3
Tome Ivezaj SG 6-4
Gripper-->Sounds perfect for our team, sad that this new outlet is the only one saying we are looking at him. He is at a Postgrad school right now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWAB5xQd2n4
This sounds nice:Sleeper of the Day:
Joey Gripper (Mont Clare Academy 2012) – A name I wasn’t familiar with coming in, Joey Gripper is a name I won’t forget going forward. In a class lacking point guards, Gripper runs a team as well as you could hope for. His vocal leadership on both ends jump off the page as does his vision and unique vision. He makes passes through unusual angles that most players wouldn’t read as quickly as he does. Gripper does need to look for his own offense a little bit more as he sometimes over passed when he had an easier shot than a teammate but didn’t hesitate to knock down a clutch 3 as the game was winding down. At 6’2” he has plus size for the PG position and is also an above average athlete. He’s going to make a college coach very happy as an extension on the floor over the next 4 years.
http://www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2012-02 ... l-day-one/
ESPN
Strengths:
Gripper is a long armed and athletic true point guard that is a very hard worker. He is a leader and can run the team with his high basketball IQ. Gripper also has a very good feel for the game. He is a very good facilitate and has solid open shooting range to about 18 feet. Gripper can get into the lane and takes good care of the ball with his good decision making. On defense he anticipates well which allows him to come up with steals on and off the ball on a regular basis.
Weaknesses:
Gripper must add strength in order to finish better through contact and work to extend his shooting range to the arc and make it a consistent weapon. Also at times Gripper gambles on the defensive end which gets him out of position.
Bottom Line:
Gripper is a true point that is smart and has a great feel who has continued to improve. He can lead, run the team and get others involved. He scores by getting to the rim and mostly from mid range areas. He is a scrappy defender as well. As Gripper adds strength and extends his range expect his game production to increase another notch.
