Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
I have my doubts about Schilz...but I definitely trust the judgement of the coaches...they know the team better than any of us. And maybe I'm not being fair to Schilz, his first year was marred by injury and we still don't have a consistent line.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
I am a supporter of Clawson, GC, and all Falcon sports but guys we cannot use the 'young' excuse anymore.
For the sophomores the UT game would have been their 21 collegiate game. They have been through a full offseason, one spring practice session and two 4 week summer practice seasons. That's over 100 days practice and doesn't include weight lifting, films, etc. We can no longer use the being young as an excuse.
This coaching staff needs to work on fundamentals, tackling and better play calling. Our Defensive is quick to the ball but we can't tackle. I see better tackling watching high school teams in NW Ohio (Central Catholic, Findlay, Genoa and Eastward). I like the coverage teams we use on thirst downs. I like our punt and kick return game, but when it comes to tackling we suck. We got the talent. We got the speed. And then there is play calling. How many times is Hopgood going to run up the middle. How many times in 3 and 1 we going to run up the middle. Pitch the ball and use your speed. Use the tight end if needed, hell do a QB sneak.
We could start 22 SENIOR players and the results will be the same if we keep tackling the same as we are now. We need to work on the fundamentals and the coaching staff needs to get their act together and call better plays. Until those things change we are going to be a bottom tier team. So please stop using WE ARE A YOUNG TEAM. Are seniors can't tackle either and making the same mistakes as the baby falcons.

We are not a fun team to watch. Not sure if anyone has brought it up but I will bring up the Idaho game. We dominate the first half. Then come out in the second half and sit on the ball every time we got it. That was a perfect game to put a team way by 30-40 points. No we come out and give a team chance to hang around because we run the most predictible offense. I don't get it.
If I never see the stupid Wildcat again. I am OK with that.
This team should be 5-2 and should have been much more competittive in the the WMU and WMU games.

Need to make a yard inside the five. Twice. Don't "wait and look" in the wildcat. Hit it up in there and get the yard. Get ONE yard.
Need to make a straight away 24 yard FG even in Hurricane Irene. Make it.
Need to intercept a ball when the guy throws a prayer. Pick it and go. Pick it. Momentum goes with it even if you just fall down with it.
Need to throw the ball on a line thru a gale when your special play call results in a freshman RB running uncovered 12 yards from the end zone. THROW the ball. Don't lob and hope. Throw it.
Eliminate stupid penalties- just the dumb ones. Keep arguing though Coach Clawson. When Kamar can't turn around in the end zone on a 20 yard route, it's called holding. Go ahead and argue and get the next call. Nice catch next play at the end of the half though Kamar.
Some other observations:
1. Our marching band show was very good. And nice job by the alumni band on the alma mater. We had more alum band members back than WVU for our HC. Thanks for coming back!
2. Our crowd- led as always by students- kept working hard for our team. And stayed and cheered despite some wind etc issues. 22,500- not bad considering the noon start. I am all about 3:30 and 7:30 when able. We don't control all that I realize
3. Postgame on field- can't go on when other team is there. Good move there (just ask Marshall/Miami folks). Most schools do not let fans on the field at all so I would say be thankful! I am. But did you see WHY there was a delay? UT players and coaches ran thru two fight song renditions and an alma mater, gathered in the end zone for a team photograph with the scoreboard in the background and then remained on the field some more. REMEMBER that. Next year when we win, shake hands, salute our team's fans and then get off the field. Show some respect. Won't see any from them.
4. Tremendous version of "Sandman" by the pre game band near the tents. Excellent job boys- Off to Never Never Land!
5. Stadium signage? Sell it all. It isn't 1985 with McClure or even 2002 with Urban. Wish it was every now and then but it never will be. Maximize revenue and involve partners. Manage it as best you can.
6. Freddie and Frieda- very very good today pre game, during the game and post game. Very good.
7. Thanks for coming back to Mileti etc classes of 61 and 71. Good turn out. And the parade was fun Friday.
8. Defense- fourth and fifth year players on field for us- Kevin Moore. One right? Offense- fourth and fifth year players on the field for us- B Bojicic, A Hodges and extra WR R Hutson. Three right? Wow. Three of Clawson's JCs in Kamar, Binky and special teamer Leacock are seniors. But FOUR guys from two recruiting classes? Can't be another team in the country w that roster. Not complaining. Not making excuses. Just saying. Wow. Again.
9. Our dance team is very good this year. Even in track suits in the wind.
10. Our schedule is wild- at Miami, at WVU, at Wester, UT, Temple- quite a stretch. What did we do to the Commish to draw our MAC opponents? Oh well. Gotta play the hand your dealt with the cards in your hand. So let's go Falcons- beat Temple!
11. I had fun this weekend. Had a few returning alums commenting on our new dining centers. Have you seen The Oaks? Stop in when able and eat.
12. How do our cheerleaders do certain stuff in a 35 mile MPH wind? I give them credit.
13. Boo Boo Gates is ridiculous. What a player! And our punter- he's good too. Didn't know he was so fleet a foot.
Wish we had won.
FF1,
Was good to see you again...our 50th reunion went very well, though I was a bit disappointed in overall turnout.. most frightening thing we learned...our class has lost over 180 members since 1961...a rather sobering thought...but the folks who came had a great time together.
BTW, Joyce and I DID eat at the Oaks...quite a facility... was it "co incidental" that we saw about 15 FB players eating at an "all you can eat for one price" place? NOT!!
Go Falcons!
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Agreed on the 24 hr rule...I think we'll fare better against Temple as we can load up 8 in the box and not have to worry about their QB's going downfield...they can't. We can beat these guys.

Temple is sure an enigma. They play like total crap versus Toledo and then play like world beaters against Ball State and Buffalo, not giving up a point to either.

Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
Dont forget Temple won AT Maryland by 34 pts. Maryland nearly beat #7 Clemson. Maryland is much better than WVU. So if Temple is on their game I can see the spread this game be about Temple -24. If Temple plays like it did against Toledo and we play our best we can win. If we play like our last two road games it will be painful to watch.

If that was the case wouldn't they have beaten WVU instead of losing to them when they playedgmartin wrote:Maryland is much better than WVU.

Don't confuse him with facts....
Re: Battle of I-75 Post-Game Reactions
Maryland is ... schizophrenic. Talented ... or somewhat talented, and inconsistent. Temple played really, really, really well and caught Maryland playing very poorly. Then Temple turned around and played very, very poorly against a Toledo team that we were dumb mistakes from beating. Point is ... no reason at all we cannot beat Temple. We certainly can beat them. We can't control which Temple team shows up, the one that murdered Maryland or the one that got trounced by that team up north. We can control which Bowling Green team shows up. If BG comes out focused and cuts down on the mistakes, they're back at .500 come next Saturday.

One kid who impressed me was freshman DT Hunter Maynard... he got pushed around some, but he made some plays and battled too. For an 18 year-old kid, I thought he did well. Kid looks like a DT anyway....and that's a change for us.

Flipper,
I would agree, he is doing good for a true Frosh. Just came off redshirt in WMU game. He will be a greta player before he leaves BG, Also, Zach Colvin is doing a good job at DE as well.
Both these guys are playing a lot together and in critical downs , and are more than holding thier own. That bodes well for our future D.
Side note, I also heard Frosh Matt Redfield, walk on LB, asked for and recieved his release to go elsewhere.
