I'm enjoying a Guineas in Dublin, Ireland right now. That's my excuse why I won't be at the Kent game Saturday.

Way to show some respect....footballguy51 wrote:When the stadium is less full, you don't have to deal with some of the people that complain about everything. I was standing during a big play at the Toledo game, towards the end of the game, and this old fart and his wife were heading down the stairs on their way out. He puts his hand on my shoulder on his way down the steps and says, "You know, when you stand up like that, nobody behind you can see." I just ignored him. But then, after managing two more steps, he shouts, "There's nobody in front of you, so there's no excuse to be standing up. Nobody else can see."
My response? "Thanks, old fart! Go sit in wheelchair row next time!"
After reading this, I hope you get stuck behind someone who is standing when you're 70+ and can't possibly do the same.

I'm 6-5 or so and kinda wide,so I try to be respectful towards other people and their space. Unless eveyone in front of me is standing, I don`t because it's not right to put yourself above those around you.
If you see that gentleman you were so rude to again, I would hope you'd consider apologizing for acting like a person from Toledo......

Standing is one thing, being a dick about it is a whole other thing.

I stand for a big play. It was a 4th down play. I also stand in celebration when we score a touchdown. I sit 95% of the game. That guy just wanted to complain about something. He wasn't even sitting anywhere near me and just felt like saying something. If he was behind me and asked me not to stand, I would have respected that. But instead, he was sitting at least 6 rows above me and said something while passing me on the steps, putting his hand on me, and saying it in a disrespectful way. I'll take offense to something like that anytime.

Should've pushed him down the stairs and taken his wallet while stealing Tootsie Rolls from the kids.

Never seen anyone from Toledo act like that even. Of course I'm not sure I really believe anyone said that- maybe they WANTED to say it but I can't imagine anyone ACTUALLY saying it. Of course I can't imagine anyone SAYING they said it or anyone HOLDING the caps lock key down this frequently either so MAYBE he Did say it which WOULD be really rude. And I'm only 5'10 and fairly narrow.

Re: What was the excuse?
Remember that WMU game is when Omar went down, and the Falcons, who looked like they might go 8-0 in conference play, got hammered by WMU. It was hard to get excited the following week knowing our season and hopes of a MAC Championship were most likely gone, although I was one of the 7,000 there for Akron the following week.bgsufalcon24 wrote:I think you might be on to something there. I remember back in 2005 when we had a nearly full house against Western Michigan, and then the next week against Akron we had maybe 7k there, smallest crowd I've ever seen at the Doyt.Falcon137 wrote:Anyone else think attendance lags when there is 2 home games in a row? I haven't looked and I don't have time to check, but it seems the 2nd week of back to back home games always lags.
I can't remember too many instances of us being at home back to back weeks since I've been following the team, so the sample size isn't great.

Smallest crowd I ever saw at the Doyt was last year's finale vs WMU...there couldn't have been more than 2,000 in the stands. It was pititful.

Urban Meyer's last home game in 2002 (against EMU at night after it snowed a few inches the day before) was the smallest crowd I can remember. To this day I think that crowd...after he had us ranked in the top 20 for a good portion of the year..played a part in his decision to continue to look elsewhere after negotiating an extension.

Re: What was the excuse?
I believe that was the day that OSU beat UM to clinch a spot in the BCS title game against Miami. We watched the OSU game at Frickers and then walked over to the BG-EMU game. That was one of the coldest games I've ever attended, and on OSU-Michigan day...no surprise it was a small crowd.Flipper wrote:Urban Meyer's last home game in 2002 (against EMU at night after it snowed a few inches the day before) was the smallest crowd I can remember. The game Freak talked about is one even I skipped out on. It was insanely cold that day as well. We tailgated then decided to hell with the BG game...we went over to a buddy's house to watch Auburn-Alabama in the heat. It was cold and we were 2-9 or whatever. No surprise that the crowd was pathetic for that one...
I've given up caring about attendance figures too. We'll never be a team that consistently brings in 25k people...we just don't have that sort of following.
Re: What was the excuse?
Now will we have an excuse not to attend. Pathetic!
