I had my fair share of these while attending BGSU...

The best band show I ever saw on You Tube was BGSU play a song while soda bottles were exploding all over the place. Can anyone dig that up?

The FMB does plenty to entertain the crowd - if you don't think so, you don't pay attention at all. They've introduced plenty of new tunes even since I've been gone that are geared to pump up the crowd. That is the point of playing in the stands between plays/quarters/etc. They're tunes that I honestly don't care for, but it's what the students listen to nowadays.
What you are ignoring is the fact that the main purpose of the marching band is education. The halftime show has a dual goal: to grow through musical performance and to entertain the crowd. There has not been a single show I've been a part of or seen by the FMB that has been for anything less.

I'm a truly proud alum of the FMB, but during my time with them i watched the band fall further and further from excellence. I'm not digging on the current members of the band, we all know they work hard and do the best job they've been taught how to do. That being said, musicality, marching percision, and things as simple as taking care of your uniform and personal hygeine have gone by the wayside.

We're complaining about the the kitties park and blow techniques, but thats mostly all I've seen on youtube and at homecoming from the FMB this year.

THEY DON'T EVEN SHAVE ON GAMEDAY ANYMORE. That used to be a very serious offense just a few years ago.

Traditionally the music and marching from the FMB has always been better. Showmanship has been in the kitties court. Right now they are the superior band.
Yeah right girl!

When my kids were in the Bowling Green High School Band (ironically called The Bobcat Band :-D ), nearly every one of their half time shows had some kind of full band dance in it. It was usually shorter than what you saw here, but they did marching routines throughout it also. For us, it was very entertaining, but it was also high school.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."
~~USCHO Poster
"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Band discussion is going to be taken off this board if we keep at it.

I do not mean to be insulting, I think the band is a really good thing to have. Not necessary any more but certainly a positive that adds to the game experience. But in all of your explanations as to why I should not like the OU band and why BG band is better you are pointing to things that only another bandperson would know or even care about. Its like a painter making artwork that is so good that only other painters can appreciate it and the general public can't understand. If the goal is education and not entertainment then maybe that makes sense. But then you are just educating new band leaders to make unentertaining bands.

Hey, I'm a proud alum of the FMB and I like the OU band a lot. I appreciate a band who does their thing well ... be it UofM, OU, FSU, etc. Not too many years ago the student section at OU would stay at the game until after the band finished, then leave and party. I find that pretty cool.

I never said anything regarding why you should or shouldn't like the OU band, or why the FMB is better. I only asked that you not ascribe a particular attitude ("if you don't like it, you are the problem") to all of us members and alumni. I'm not getting into a debate with you on my philosophy of music education and the role of the marching band in that philosophy. Nor am I going to argue with you about the relative merits of the OU band (there's a band forum for that). I only ask that you treat those of us who worked our butts off for 2.5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 4 or 5 years to entertain YOU with a little respect. Sorry if you can't appreciate that or weren't entertained.

I am staying far away from that place. I don't want to know what goes on in there.
